Antoine: that looks to be more of a backup USB - not a hardware lock but I will call CA's sales to be sure my partner and I always buy the DVD and now it looks like it comes on a USB the hardware lock provides full independence from CA if they should go out of business or be bought by another company or maybe decide to turn off all the prior software locks for X2 - X8 since they are "antiques" and providing maintenance and tech support is too "expensive" Lew

Mick: I have X10 and X11 installed - just not using them for projects at this time If a need develops we will be ready to jump forward most likely it would be on a project-by-project basis with the majority staying at X9 my partner is still in business so he may need to move forward with his clients but he will continue to do my family history projects in X9 Lew
-
my expire date was in Feb like most of us long timers my partner delayed one year so he ended up with a May 31 expire I called and the prorated me to expire May 31 also now he and I can make decisions together and can check out the Beta before deciding to renew SSA this year I jumped the gun and renewed in Dec to avoid the $50 price increase since I have frozen myself to doing plans only in X9 sometime in the future I may stop renewing for now I have X10 and X11 - just not using them Lew

I see some very nice features - nothing "mandatory" - but some very nice stuff FINALLY - an Invisible Wall toggle I started asking for that in 2005 sad to see the library organization structure with folders etc has still be "ignored" I started asking that the Library Browser have folders that mimic CA's website OOB someone from CA said "great idea" - maybe X5 and now with X11 - sadness once again I'll be reviewing these videos again and again but I think I will still be staying with X9 due to the lack of a hardware key for X10 and later since I'm retired and just doing models for my family historical projects X9 serves well my SSA is still current so if a project should develop where I need the latest and greatest I will be ready Lew

a builder we had just started working with dropped off a set of plans as we modeled the basement/foundation and floor 1 we noticed a discrepancy with a corner jot out He walked in the door just as I was ready to call him one look at the plans and he quickly called his foreman to stop the pouring of the foundation the 3D model showed the issue where paper plans didn't he saved a lot of $$$ and aggravation that day another client insisted he didn't need 3D renderings for his $1.6 M house I produced a set of renderings anyways to highlight the beautiful entry and staircase and massive three story Palladian window etc it was a mansion and I wanted to highlight it on my website at a meeting I showed him the renderings and he was amazed and asked if he could have a copy as his wife couldn't understand 2D drawings and they brought the project ALIVE Lew

Annotation Sets are nothing more than a pre-defined group of Active Defaults. yes, this is why layouts were created using ONLY layers and layersets prior to the X4 introduction of anno-sets anno-sets just made things more convenient instead of going to many places to change active defaults you could create an anno-set having that particular set of active defaults. Chief OOB came with a few pre-defined anno-sets some power users ended up with 3-4 dozen of them I suspect most users could have done fine with about 6 or so As for plansets - I can't speak to them Lew
-
before annosets were introduced in X4 EVERYTHING was done with layers and layersets annosets just made all of that more convenient interesting to hear that annosets have now been made "Moot" by plansets since I retired about the time of X4 I have never used annosets or plansets good to know that if I ever do need to I will jump right to plansets Lew
-
X10 also introduced the Plansets feature so that may be causing some of these issues review your Plansets defauts and or preferences I am sticking with X9 so I have no experience with Plansets - but they do sound interesting Lew

lbuttery replied to EconBlueprints's topic in General Q & A
clicking the button again doesn't refresh the dimensions it just redos the Auto Storey Pole, without deleting the 1st Set of Dims.. WHY? for what possible reason would chief do this ? shaking head in dismay Lew -

Design Contract- Anyone have one that they're happy with?
lbuttery replied to JECORMIER's topic in General Q & A
also, have a section that lists what you will NOT be doing I worked in the DC metro area and among many things that we did not do was Cheseapeake Bay Water Impact studies there were other things that we did not want to offer as services and yet you don't want to hear the client say "but I expected that to be included ..." I also found that some builders didn't even review the plans and just tried to print and submit them even after telling them they were just draft's so I added a clause that by printing and/or submitting they found the plans acceptable also a clause that they had the rights to the plans. I had no way to verify if they did or didn't - with them signing this clause the onus was on them Lew -
Bottom line: it all depends on who's asking ... Lew

If the house is in the Southern US with high humidity be wary of crawl spaces I just bought a winter home in NC built in 1974 with crawl space under the entire house - huge mold issues and it is very common in the South I am in the process of spending $10K to remediate the mold, remove the insulation, add insulation batts on the walls then add a de-humidifier and sump pump and close all vents and encapsulate with a liner (equivalent to a swimming pool liner) the vendor in NC is doing a similar process to what this TN vendor is doing they have many videos explaining the issues and solutions https://crawlspaceninja.com/ Lew

check with David Potter he has been able to get older versions to run on Windows 10 also do a search on Ebay - then save the search you will get a email each time a new sale/auction starts before buying the seller should be willing to work with you to verify the license is valid and can be transferred and what the transfer fee is - depending on license type it can range from $50 to $400 or more Lew

Rockney: I think you mean to an all ready modeled plan say with 8' ceilings to change to 9' ceilings automatically I know in the "old" days there wasn't a really good way to do this but I "retired" in 2012 and have lost track on this issue so "match properties" may do the trick - but probably need auto-roof rebuild and auto-framing rebuild etc turned on I remember having to doing a few of these adjustments back around 2008 and there was some cleanup work that needed to be done afterwards today ... maybe not ? Lew

Carl: let me know if you can't find one I am in NC for the winter but my "stuff" is at my home in NY somebody should be able to help you sooner after verifying with CA that you have a valid license Lew

Looking to Buy X5 (32 bit) for Windows XP
lbuttery replied to SeekingX5License's topic in Sales Related Questions
I would check with CA sales I think that means you can't transfer old versions while keeping the newest If you sell the newest then it "should" include all the old ones too it is one continuous license that covers all versions you own BUT, I could be wrong ... Lew
