Do you mean version #8 or do you mean version X8 (18)? Not nearly the same thing version 8 is an antique application. DJP

Room Label Text Default And Text Style Bug In X8 Beta?
DavidJPotter replied to antman's topic in General Q & A
I commonly just redo my profile.plan and layout templates anew with each new version as a matter of course (an expected occurrence since version 6 or Chief 1999) DJP -
Ca Newbie Looking For X3 License
DavidJPotter replied to JessCoville's topic in Sales Related Questions
If you can find a copy of X3, I can help teach-tutor you I still have versions 7-17 including X3 on my PC. DJP -
Try lowering the shed roof over the window, the gap above matches the length of the shed roof, lowering it may help disconnect it from the upper railing wall. DJP

I would have to see the plan and its settings but number one, I would just draw over that gapped wall, which I assume you already have. DJP

I have 9.5 on my XP hard drive but honestly, I have not used it especially for printing. I am sure I could get to print if I needed to. As I recall, you must set your printer up in Windows first and then with it pre selected and set up in Windows you should then be able to print from Chief 9.5, so the main thing is set up Windows, format for the paper size and orientation in Windows first and then make those same adjustments in Chief 9.5. If you want something with zero dimensions, just leave it out. Nothing in the real, physical world has a thickness of zero (nothing). To be able to perceive something it has to have some mass otherwise it is invisible altogether. I really do not see this as a "problem" or bug. DJP

You can apply vector patterns (.pat) files to any material, there are several additional .pat files available that ship with Chief (take a look under "Custom Pat Files") and or you can import .pat files from AutoCAD and other CAD programs that use .pat files. and then assign those to existing or custom materials. Ca X8 And X7 - Installed On Same Computer
DavidJPotter replied to ComputerMaster86's topic in General Q & A
Look at my signature: in Windows 10 I have Chief 10-X8 installed and on my Windows XP hard drive I have Chief 7-X1 installed (they seem to run better in XP than Windows 10). Each is a separate application and they work together (one at a time). DJP -
Check at 3D Warehouse, download and then import or you can make them from 3D custom moldings, either way will work. DJP

I have Chief Architect Version 10 on my PC installed in Windows XP x32. I have never successfully gotten it to run properly in Windows 7 or 10. That is why I still have XP for antique software that I have (Chief Version 7. 9 '10 and X1). I have found that very workable to run those applications in the operating system they were designed for. Windows Tight To Corner: X8 Still Won't Do
DavidJPotter replied to GeneDavis's topic in General Q & A
Gene, I think you should show an example of this "failure", in terms of my own experience I can do this in X8 and was also able to do it in X7, X6, X5 and X4, please be more specific and show an example. DJP -
Background images are only usable from the original focal point that they were taken from. As you alter the camera viewpoint the focal point changes and the image becomes less useful. When I create custom backdrops, I calculate the point from which I take a photo and duplicate that viewpoint in the 3D model and along the same vector as it was taken, doing that will ensure the greatest amount of "reality". A backdrop or photo is a 2D image and as such is only valid from the same or similar viewpoint from which it was created. DJP

There is a specific 3D symbol for outlets on islands "Electrical - Outlets - Cabinet Mounted", these do not attach to a "wall" and must be manually placed and located. DJP

I have had nothing major occur but I also just do projects in either X7 or X8 without mixing them, mainly due to the lack of a "Client Viewer" which is now no longer a problem. Projects I am doing for X7 users, I of course would not mix up due to compatibility issues. Generally I would agree that X8 is very smooth if a little slow compared to X7 (I may need a computer upgrade, though I am not sure). The visualization of the LIbrary Browser seems the slowest (very annoying). DJP

X1 is an antique program designed to run within Windows XP x32. It runs in other operating systems but not as well as the one it was designed for. DJP

I runX1 in Windows 10 but of course not very often, it does seem to run smoother in XP (I also have it installed on my XP hard drive, along with Version 7, 9 and 10 DJP

Not exactly sure what you mean by "Clean Up" but if you requires "perfection" then sometimes 2D CAD overlays are your only solution. Chief does a lot of things well but perfect it is not. If you see perfection will that is more likely due to the end user as opposed to the software itself. DJP

The camera was not really programmed for spelunking but you can alter "height and Field of View" in Edit - Default Settings - Camera - Camera Defaults General Tab". Try that and see if it helps. DJP

Posts should automatically appear provided you have created a terrain plane first provided you named the deck room "Deck", if you name the deck room "Balcony" then the posts will have to be manually created. DJP
