  1. Michael, thanks for the further investigation. Had a chance to play with it a little more. 1. I was aware of, but extra steps to achieve what we could before. 2. this is interesting. However, this doesn't work if it is a closed polyline. It isn't very intuitive either. I found I had to select the segment, which selects the entire group, then select the same segment again, then start selecting others. So can work, but my brain would definitely need to be trained to think this way since I don't think to turn on 'connect cad segments' to disconnect cad segments . However, most times I need this function is when a polyline is closed. (i use it alot on closet plot/site plans). In summary. I realize I can get what I need done, but there are extra steps involved to get there compared to the old tool we had. I would certainly like the more intuitive obvious edit parts tool back. Or as mentioned, perhaps the disconnect segment could have a 'sticky' mode and even a fence option added to it and I can live with that as that would be much more intuitive since most tools do have a sticky mode.
  2. Thank Michael. Appreciate the time you put into that video. One thing to point out is that disconnect edge is a child of the line tool. So when you hit 'w' the tool is there. See screen shot below. However, I don't like this, i want it disassociated with the line parent and back with the 'edit behavior tools' where it was before and where it belongs. If I'm in this mode, then it overrides the line mode and I have to go back into line mode. Which doesn't make sense to me. My guess is that putting it there helped to turn it off automatically when switching to another drawing/editing tool. Like you, I like the 'connect CAD segments' toggle. There are several times I want to draw cad lines and don't want them to connect, so this is a welcome feature. Ultimately, i don't like that we lost the ability to multiple select individual objects that are connected. This wasn't demonstrated in the video. While you can select each line while in that 'mode', you can't multiple select the line. Big loss of functionality and not sure why that was removed. I know chief got lots of support tickets and there are lots of posts on problems users had as a result of having edit object parts being on without them knowing. So if that is the motivation, then hide the tool or turn it off automatically like they do with the new disconnect tool, but don't get rid of it. Big disappointment to me. Never could understand why a software company would remove functionality. Please bring it back. Perhaps adding a sticky mode to the 'disconnect cad segment' would be an acceptable solution. Not as good, but at least we would get the function back in some form. But i'm not a fan of the sticky mode thing because it's an extra click vs double clicking like we use to do with things like complete line breaks, or copying, etc. But I understand the consistency between programs. But why eliminate the double click, let us do both. Maybe this loss feature turned into a feature request.
  3. Yes, but it doesn't work the same. Before I could toggle on 'edit polyline parts' and say i had a connected polyine with 6 lines, I could control + select two or three of them and delete or edit that line. Now, with it on, you can not multiple select lines, you can only select one. I would have to either select them one by one, and they will then be disconnected when I back out of that tool and can select what I want, or select them one at a time and disconnect them, then go back in and select them all to edit, or match properties or some other way of editing. Let me know if I'm missing something. Look forward to your video.
  4. Yeah, I like the new tool for quick edits. But I don't like that we lost the other tool because now I can't multi select different edges to delete or edit. Unless I'm not understanding how to do that?
  5. Yeah, I can see what you mean, but I have it in a different spot. The problem with the tool is that it is tied to the CAD line group, and so when I turn it on, the cad line group goes to that as well. That is annoying and would like to disassociate them from each other. Might have to create my own group of tools for that to work. So my wish is for the tool to be separated from the CAD line parent/child association. Definitely don't like that being tied together. Will have to think about this. Yeah, I actually like that for a quick line separation. But when I want to bulk grab different parts or lines, this tool takes way to long. So I need to: Select line, click on disconnect, then delete/edit. But with the original tool I could toggle it on, then select multiple lines and bulk edit/delete. This is a loss of functionality as far as I'm concerned as well as slower.
  6. Thank you both. The 'disconnect edges' is what I was looking for. The confusion is that when I imported my X7 toolbars, Chief automatically replace my 'edit polyline parts' icon in the toolbar with the 'connect cad segments' tool. What they need to do if someone has that icon/tool is replace it with the 'disconnect edges' and things will continue on smoothly. Hopefully this thread helps someone else as well. Appreciate the time and feedback.
  7. Seems 'Edit Polyline Parts' has been removed or renamed and refunctioned to 'Connect CAD Segments'?. Perhaps the 'Disconnect Selected Edge' is trying to replace the function? I really hope we didn't lose this function as the disconnect is slower and way more clicks, and the 'Connect CAD Segments' is only when drawing new, and not editing existing. It is good in some cases, but not all. Will someone point me to the renamed tool or how to use the 'edit polyline parts' function in X8? Thank you.
  8. Did that with no joy. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. It has more to do with the door jamb settings, but even that isn't consistent. Chief tells me they are working on it. Thanks for the suggestion.
  9. I was not able to get Chief 9.54 to install on Windows 7 or 8(.1) with USB lock. However, if you search some very old threads on the old Chief forum, you will find some posts on how to 'possibly' get an emulated (virtual desktop) version of WIndows XP on your machine to get it to work. I did get it to work for a little while doing that, but it was buggy and not worth it since it wasn't consistent. Only way it is guaranteed to work is if you have a password version (no hardware lock) but not many people had those. I haven't tried it on Windows 10, but I'm not hopeful. Perhaps the virtual desktop works better with that.
  10. A bug I'm having an issue on and have reported: See post here: https://chieftalk.chiefarchitect.com/index.php?/topic/7859-naming-wall-types/?p=71842
  11. Graeme, for me it occurs when using openings that butts up against a 90 degree wall and it doesn't draw the line where they meet, and produces artifact lines in elevations as well. I haven't seen it discussed on this forum, so perhaps it is the way I work, but I have reported it to Chief. It shows up in new plans and plans brought forward from X7 and before that didn't show the problem. I sure hope they fix it in the next update. In attached screen shot, i've circled where lines aren't being produced, it's leaving it blank or white where the opening is meeting the adjacent wall. If i pull it back an inch, the line will show up.
  12. Or within Chief, just click open and navigate to the file and open it, it will find/list the .pl1 file. Or drag the file into chief from explorer. Or try Lewis suggestion. All of them should work. .pl1 = first floor; .pl0 = foundation plan; .pl2 = second floor, etc. Open the .pl1 file and Chief will automatically combine them into one. But you can really open any of the .pl files and they will still combine. If any of the .pl files are missing, then that floor will not be present in the file. Even older files have .ca files which are the CAD files. And there are also .pb and .cb files, and those are the backups. Hope that helps.
  13. Would definitely like a fix on this soon. This and another bug that effects how plans look visually are hindering my progress. However, I realize this is 'beta', and therefore will be risks involved with going totally X8.
  14. If confirmed, perhaps the Beta Testers can submit a report through there process to ensure it gets taken care of before the next release.
  15. 3d view styles are definitely faster. Very nice. Still want even more speed if possible, but still better.. really like the opaque window glass option.
  16. yes, i think same problem i'm seeing?? I can copy a new wall and make changes, but I can't rename it no matter what I do. But i can still function with the wall, just can't rename it. i just sent a support request in on that and another item I found.
  17. My initial guess is the layer is off due to layer sets or other. make sure that layer is on in 3d view.
  18. If I'm reading it right, that pricing is on 'Upgrades', not 'renewals'. So, no additional discount for current/active SSA subscriptions. Let me know if I'm reading it wrong.
  19. Thanks for all the Beta Testers do. Much appreciated.
  20. Per your picture, you have the grid, so as long as 'grid snaps' are on (Ctrl + F9), then the new cad lines will draw on grid even though you won't see any snapping visual aids. If it isn't on grid, then there is a setting wrong, or something that is snapping off the grid forcing the line to move. Just stay away from anything else for the cad lines to snap to. The new cad lines don't even have to be close to the corner. If you want to be sure, upload your plan, and someone can take a look at it. Beyond that, we can only give you are best guess based on the information provided. It works perfectly for me every time. Never had a problem getting things back on grid. Staying on grid in the first place or how people prefer to use it is a different discussion.
  21. Use to be on multiple beta teams many versions ago and enjoyed it very much. Just too busy now to commit the kind of time that I would need to be responsive and helpful. It would be more of a feature and function input then bug input. Perhaps X9.
  22. To answer the original question: I occasionally get a plan off grid due to autocad import, rotating a plan via edit area, etc. New plans are automatically on grid if set up correctly, but for those rare times it is off, here is what I do: I draw two intersection cad lines on grid, somewhat close to the corner of two walls (like in your pic), then 'edit area all' and then do a 'point to point' move from the wall intersection, to the cad line intersection. Should be good to go after that, regardless of what your preferred grid settings are. Hope that helps.
  23. Shadows in elevations that can send to layout live, very nice!
  24. Foundations have certainly become more temperamental in recent releases. Especially when I bring an old Chief version plan forward. Support doesn't agree, and I don' have the time to change there mind.
