  1. The added benefit is you would get real time feedback: for example when in an elevation I can make adjustments to a window or other design element and see the change immediately which is great for trying out different design ideas on a home. Versus making the changes on the dbx and then exiting out to see the changes on the model. I know we have the render feedback, but I like to see it on the plan versus in the dbx.
  2. Modeless first in one update (if possible), then make other changes/improvements to the software. The productivity increase from modeless is worth a year investment and my SSA. The added benefit: it would be a huge marketing sell and bump for Chief for new and for retaining customers. Thanks Johnny for bringing this up, and in a very professional way. Very good insight with experience in competing software. My vote is to put Johnny on the Alpha team. We would all benefit.
  3. Kenneth, there are a few guys in the Phoenix Area that have been using Chief for a long time, myself included (since 1999). Not sure if you are looking to outsource the work, but it sounds like you are looking to hire in house. Let me know if you would like me to introduce or recommend one to you. We are too busy at the moment to take on any new builders. We primarily focus on new custom homes, and don't have the man power right now to do additions/remodels, but do lots of work in Phoenix and Scottsdale. Feel free to give me a call, drop me an email, or send a private message. Best of luck to you. (contact info found on my web page linked below).
  4. I also get this more then I should...I use the copy icon, the sticky icon, and a mouse shortcut for copy/paste, and it happens on all 3 instances with no pattern to pickup.
  5. Carl, i have the same problem. I have an SSD drive, a good card, etc, but every plan I do slows significantly when 3d is open. i do fairly complex homes and they may have something to do with it? I turn barebones layers on in 3d. I would love to keep 3d open on another screen, but just too slow. Definitely a nuisance, problem!
  6. Perry, it closed a few years back: http://www.azcentral.com/sports/speed/articles/2009/03/16/20090316manzy0317.html https://www.facebook.com/pages/Manzanita-Speedway-Rat-Pac/321978873109
  7. I'm in Phoenix Area (Gilbert)...curious to see who/how many we have down in Tucson Area.
  8. Exactly..it's the small rooms that are a nuisance because you have to move/remove the label to continue designing. This was the thought process behind my suggestion about a minimum room size for the label to appear....define the room, just keep the label off when smaller then the predefined minimum room size.
  9. OK, working on a plan today, and this is pretty annoying especially when really small rooms, or dead space is created...however, it can be helpful when larger rooms are created...just to get a quick size. So I wonder if there is a way to just have rooms larger then say 10 x 10, or 12 x 12, or by square feet show the room name, and anything smaller have it named, but the label off by default. If that is difficult to implement, or confusing for users to understand how and why it is working, then I would lean towards it being off by default. Just some thoughts on this while designing a new project today.
  10. Agreed, would love to turn this off...I'm fine with the new room being labeled the same as the existing, but would rather have the label off by default.
  11. try 'final view', or 'final view with shadows'...that should smooth it out some
  12. If you go with a Disto, this site has the best prices I could find...I got 2 from them at different times...and would use them again: http://www.appraiserslaser.com/
  13. put all the files in one folder, open the pl1 file, and it will merge the other plx files...if not, perhaps post all the .plx files, and we can open in 9 to see if works there, then possibly convert it up.
  14. X6 will merge them together...I have 9.5 running on another computer and could open all of them up to see if it is all there in the original format, then convert to X6 if needed...when i open up the file you posted in the original in 9.5 i get a message that 'floor 2 is missing from the plan files for this plan...." good luck.
  15. Also use SugarSync...don't rely on it for real time sync for two computers running at the same time, but for a secondary computer used at different times it works great and syncs things quick and backups up at the same time and close to real time as mentioned by Mike. Been using it for years.
  16. No, this looks familiar...I think someone asked about it before...I imagine it was a combination of some architectural software and fine tuned in Photoshop, or the like.
  17. Pretty cool...i'm sure it can be with some effort.
  18. that's right...i think the middle one resizes the door...glad you figured it out.
  19. grab the middle handle and drag it inwards or outwards
  20. Agreed...for longer then a few second delay a dialog is helpful....quick/short delays (if we want to call them delays), a dialog is not necessary.
  21. Can we get rid of it...I really don't want to see it every time I hit undo...i guess my brain is programmed that way since that is how every software I work with operates...no dialog when hitting undo...perhaps having it show up after 3 seconds like previously mentioned would be fine....just so we know it is still thinking and not crashing.
  22. I also get a pop up dialogue every single time I hit undo...it is fast, but annoying to see it at all...i'm set up on an ssd drive as well....definately showing up before 3 seconds...would love to see that go away.
  23. what setting do i change to only get an email on the first new post, and not every single post...that is how the legacy forum works...my inbox is under attack from this thread...I know I can stop following it, but something that I need to figure out for all forums...thanks.
