  1. I had a request from a part time interior designer (does about 12 projects a year) to view the CA model in VR. She tried it out with her kid's oculus glasses on my computer and liked it. The CA desktop viewer would be a good option (not sure if a higher end computer is required) but the viewer does not look to support VR. Her use case is to setup a VR room in her basement, where her customers can come and experience the model. She is not interested in actually doing anything in CA. She would like me to the CA work. Is anyone else doing VR, and are you doing it in CA exclusively?
  2. ..playing around with billboards. I did see a couple threads saying billboards cannot follow camera, but it looks like they can and the create billboard looks like the same dialog as create image. Are they the same now? the doc says both they cannot follow the camera, and they can be checked to rotate with camera "Billboard Images do not rotate to face the camera. An example of when this may be useful is an image of a trellis, which might look awkward when facing a camera from a side view. " "Check Image Always Faces Camera to prevent the image from rotating to face the camera in 3D views. This box is unchecked for Billboard Images." but of course one can check it and then it rotates.. anywho that is not my real problem my real problem is looking through the house the billboard does not show. is this to be expected or am i missing something? it just shows as white, as if the bill board was not there The tree shows that I put there just to check and see if it would show, and the terrain shows back of house view showing the lone tree behind the window: no tree, just white and terrain through the window
  3. @Bob-Roraback may I ask what are the settings for the right side grass of that picture. I've been playing around but have not been able to get a sparse crab grass look or more of a wild grass look
  4. oh I'm not in the market ..yet, mine is about 18 months old and I paid 2k, but I watch the threads for tidbits on where people are seeing improvements in performance. When I bought mine, going to an I9 was like another 1500. so one always asks, is it worth it? I kind of have it in my head that the GPU is the place to spend the money and ensure a min of 32 GB for motherboard ram as running MS edge seems to be a hog and I get over 16GB occasionally, but I do like the edge particularly for viewing pdfs, because I do not have to close the browser to recreate the PDF, where the PDF editor I have, you have to close the file before creating it again in CA. Probably too much to pay in HW for such a lowly feature and probably some other programs which act the same without eating the memory. Anyway I think my thoughts are pure speculation, which is why I watch for others. I had a bit of a debate over the drive size a couple months ago. For me the drive size doesnt matter, it would take 5 years or more to run out of space on 512. But some of the larger drives are actually faster r/w, so then wonders if will this make a difference? probably for the extra $150, it is a cheap bet
  5. "western canada select" ..lots of yellowish for the dead grass
  6. I'm still trying to figure out what is the best thing to invest in, RAM, processor or video card. Whenever I run windows perfmon, I do not really see any pinning. I thought maybe you knew something around the more motherboard RAM as the larger factor
  7. out of curiosity, why the above specs vs https://www.newegg.com/p/N82E16834725208 at $2k where the graphics RAM would be higher: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 Ti Laptop GPU Boost Clock 1395 MHz / Maximum Graphics Power 130 W 16 GB GDDR6 Intel Core i7 12th Gen 12700H (2.30GHz) 32GB Memory 1 TB Gen4 SSD
  8. that does look good, @robdyck is that the CA grass on the right and the back left or is that terrain or a backdrop?
  9. i looked and i did not log the original attic wall issue with support.
  10. if I remember correctly I raised a similar issue a couple years ago, where attic walls will appear only above a certain VSD and/or pitch
  11. I believe the limitation is restricted to heel heights below a certain VSD and/or related to pitch. If I take the above plan and build the roof with "raises from ceiling height" 24" above ceiling, it works, but 12" does not.
  12. that fixes it. plus .. ceiling plane along inside of walls, uncheck birdsmouth, raise off plate 12". rebuild all roofs and wall framing. And then finally, select trusses and rebuild
  13. For after the fact roofs (not or no longer auto built) You can also selected the roof planes go into the transform replicate, and move in the Z direction the desired amount off plate. Then select the trusses, open them up and select "Truss rebuild" your ceiling plane is at 109-1/8 but it is to the outside wall. not sure if that is what you are looking to do. CA has a good article on ceiling planes and the options for where to delineate them something funky is going on with the walls, they are at different heights. I also resized the celining plane to be on the inside of the wall as can be seen below also the main roof is into the sunroom you might want to notch that back notch shown below
  14. ...well then, that would be missing the obvious..let me try that...thanks
  15. I tried to turn the material 90 degrees but that did not seem to work. I have a 'panel' rail fence with corrugated panels. but I want the corrugated panels altered 90 degs. I created a new material from the stock, and modified 90 deg but no change...any ideas? different setting somewhere maybe material: thanks
  16. there is no refresh for plan views that I see. I did try linking and unlinking. no difference.
  17. I would suggest the critical ones are the floor heights, and floor structure depth. once you strat creating rooms and then realize they are off then...well then it takes awhile to make sure everything is correct, plus if you had altered any other elevation dimensions (like the second storey, or terrain, or foundation) they all need to be redone
  18. hmm, not sure if I understand, if I change to a callout in the camera specification it changes to callout on the plan, and then the callout shows up on layout. But if I leave it showing the camera and not the callout, and If i change the layerset to all on, it still does not show the camera on the layout, but shows on plan
  19. I'm trying to show the perspective camera on the plan view in layout, but it will not show. it shows perfectly fine on the plan view in the plan any ideas, seems like a rather simple thing? The normal elevation callouts show just fine. Must be something simple. If I change the camera specification to show as callout it will show on layout, but I would like to show the field of view, and the callout does not shopw the field of view Is this possible (other than "as image")? callout
  20. the other thing is maybe you have something on top of your slab that is 1/16" thick
