Why isn't roof cutting off attic wall? [SOLVED]
dshall replied to Richard_Morrison's topic in General Q & A
my solution was to delete wall in 3d , wall auto came back but too short so then drag the left end out to the left and that worked without needing the invisible wall. -
The text is controlled by the layer the CAD line is on.... I think that is what Rene said.
-
I just printed a PDF to a PDF in PREVIEW (MAC's default viewer) and the size of the file grew 250%, not good.
-
Yes, I think I have shared how much larger my MAC PDF's are compared to PC's PDF's.

My choice would be to have the option to auto dimension to top of window in lieu of bottom of header. This would eliminate an 80.5 inch dimension to bottom of header, instead we would get an 80 inch height to top of window. (no 1/2 inch dimensions..... I suppose iffy rough opening was 0.4 inches instead of 0.5 inches andI eliminated 1/2 inch dimensions, I would get what I want.

WOW, WOW, WOW, I think I am late to the party AGAIN. I just sent a PDF to my engineer and he was able to edit my text. I think he opened it with ADOBE PREMIUM? which gave him the power to do this but then I guess it made the file very l large that his computer had difficulty with it. I tried the same thing with my other engineer (he was using BLUEBEAM), and he was not able to manipulate the text. I bet if he knew what he was doing in BLUEBEAM he probably could manipulate the text and lines. Bottom line is, I do not want my clients to be able to manipule my plans. So how do i resolve this?

Yesterday I sent a large pdf file (via drop box link) to the engineer for review and he said the he tried to open it, his computer kept crashing. To sort this out he too had to "flatten" the PDF. I do not think anything had been added after initially printing (per Michael's thoughts). First time this has been an issue. It does need to be worked out.

Mick has it. That is what I was looking for but I wanted the grade to be auto.... I now realize that is not a reasonable request. Mick, your picture shows what I want. I am now doing it Mick's way.

Awesome, thanks

Gracias mi amigo.

I thought we could edit a door directly in the door schedule. Is this not so. Is there a way to quickly find a particular door in plan via the door schedule?
-
I know, I am still not being clear. MSL should read 0.0, grade should real 150’, finished floor should read 152’. the more I think about it, the more I think it is as good as they can get it for my purposes.
-
No, because the house is 150’ above sea level and the finished floor will not read 150’ abs. i had tried that.
-
A final note, thanks to all that helped me get through this. In the end, it can do what I want it to do with one exception, I wish we could had a toggle so we could ref mean sea level and then toggle to ref absolute zero in plan. I think that would make all happy.

You are missing something, see pic.

Hi Joe, do you have a bulletin from the city of San Diego I can refer to?

Guardrail Structural Analysis
dshall replied to Joe_Carrick's topic in Building Codes and Compliance
Often times the type of handrail changes. I do a boiler plate detail to get past the plans reviewer. Another one of those annoying tasks. -
Thanks Michael, that helped.... but I wish there was a default so I could add the marker to all dimension points. Also, I just did a GTM with Glenn (thanks Glenn), and we discovered that the auto dimension would dimension to the top of WINDOW ROUGH OPENING, I wish we could auto dimension to the TOP OF WINDOW, not the HEADER. Ooops, another wish is to be able to have a hot key to delete the auto dimensions so I can redo to update.' I also wish I could snap to the auto marker points. I also wish we could have the dimensions reference not only the ABSOLUTE ELEVATION but also THE MEAN SEA LEVEL . Glenn said he has started relating his bottom floor elevation to mean sea level (not absolute zero), the problem with this is if my client raises the house 2', instead of simply adjusting the terrain, one must ADJUST everything in the plans. Anyway, I am a little late to the party, but I do love the auto story pole dimensions. It is saving me a lot of time. I will think about this some more and then stick any suggestions in the suggestion box.
-
Thanks Glen, very helpful,
-
Hi Glenn, I will be in the office until 11:00 PST. If you are available, I could do a GTM, just let me know. I will try to get in office early tomorrow morning, maybe 4:00 am PST, that will be 9:00 pm your time, no guarantees.

Okay, I did the video. Over an hour long. Skip to the end if you want to see what I would like to see.

Walls/Railing Workshop Tuesday, April 24rth at 3:00 PM PST
dshall replied to dshall's topic in General Q & A
Glenn, building the walls like that are very limiting. I think the best method to date is the panel system and then creating the custom panel symbols. Over all, probably a relatively quick solution with the most control to date. -
I thought the same thing, but after getting into them, I love them. However, they can be improved on... but who cares, but the time they improve them I will be retired sailing to the south pacific. I started to do a vid, but I do not have the energy, if I ever get the energy I will do a vid.

Here is a question. If I want the top of my retaining wall to be 50’ above sea level, irregardless of what the house elevation is, how do I do that? understand that I may want to raise my house up 2’-0” from 51’ to 53’. But I want the retaining wall to stay at 50’. IOW, I would like to be able to set the top of retaining wall relative to MSL not necessarily to absolute zero.

SOLVED - X10 Crash: Elevations on Multiple Monitors
dshall replied to BenPalmer's topic in General Q & A
My MAC has issues with having layout open as well as elevations. I have reported it but no fix yet. Sometimes I need to force quit but often times I have to wait 10-15 seconds for the MAC to wake up.
