  1. Alan, your situation was not like mine. You are using the box window. I would never use that. I never use that (I used it once I think), I always have problems with it. Take a look at an interior view, it is a mess. Maybe someone else can give you a quick solution, if not, if I have time I might do a vid on how I would do this. It probably is fairly easy to do if you do not use the box window option. Hopefully someone can prove me wrong and make it work with a box window. We will see. Maybe that person can fix it using the box window solution and then post the plan.
  2. Alan, I have experienced this only once before, and I was never able to figure out the problem. I will take a quick look...... no matter what I figure out, I think you might want to send this into tech. Mine was not based on the window box.
  3. The only geniuses around here are the Great Glenn Woodward and the incomparable Joe Carrick. The only reason I now consider JC a genius is all the work he has done with the niches, Brilliant I say.
  4. It's like going to the store and you want a tube of toothpaste. All I need is 2 options, blue toothpaste or white toothpaste, I do not need so many options. I go to the CA library and there are 5,387different doors, all I want is either a hinged door or one of those hanging sliding doors....... I can't find the hanging sliding door, anybody know how I can find it? Thanks, you know I am just goofing on CA, but I do want to know where I can find that sliding barn door.
  5. You are doing something wrong, I do not see that behavior. Maybe you have the wall painted and so when you copy it makes a duplicate. Crap, why don't you just post a small plan so we can help you. I do not know why you expect us to guess.
  6. I think Chief Architect offers on line training. You might want to give them a call.
  7. Of course that is an option, however I find that if you put in a gable end truss and rebuild framing, the studs will not rebuild. You must put the END TRUSS in and then REBUILD WALL FRAMING.
  8. You cannot have a room on the attic level. That is why I advocate more levels than what you actually have..... just in case you want to put a room on the "attic level". If you are having problems adding an additional floor.... get over it, add the extra floor, you need it if you want to have a room at that level.
  9. Really good stuff Joe, but I cannot resize them.... well, I can resize if I unblock but then I lose the HOLE RESIZE. Also, in plan view it appears the plan view cad block is about 1/2" from wall. Yeah, so why does it have to be blocked? Is that something that we cannot avoid. You know, you have done a pretty darn good job of putting it together, it just seems that CA can put it together so that it is easily resizable and the framing auto adjusts.
  10. This is the best solution if I understand what he wants. I did a vid on this somewhere. Bottom line, create a roof that will define top of wall, then move top of wall up 12" in elevation and then back down 12" in elevation. Once this is done, the top of wall stays put irregardless if there is a roof to control the height. Now delete the "ROOF THAT IS ONLY THERE TO DEFINE TOP OF WALL", and since you had changed the top of wall to a taller height and then back down to where you actually want it, the top of wall will remain where you want it even though you have now deleted the roof that controls the height of the top of wall. Confusing? Yes. Is it anymore confusing than trying to figure out what your kids are thinking? No.
  11. Ain't that a pistol. I too am always looking for a better program.... or should I say I am always interested in comparing programs....... Yep, CA holds up pretty darn good even when comparing against the more expensive programs. We must give CA a lot of credit for what they have accomplished.
  12. I think the above statement is going to fix what is not perfect with the symbols as of now. 1. the w/d/ hook up isn't perfect. It seems as if the "HOLE" is not in alinement with the frame of the niche. 2. the hole symbols do not auto locate in plan. I must select the niche and slide into wall. Extra editing not good 3. In vector view, the hole is solid, perfect in render, not so in vector. You said we could get rid of the material in vector with the cost of not being able to select the hole. Seems like a pretty darn good trade off. 4. Would be better if once place, if the symbol itself was a solid fill to hide the "pocheing" of the wall. Really good stuff Joe, best solutions to date by far.
  13. Working with a buddy. He is on PC. Look at pic, why is some text so small and how does he fix? thanks
  14. So funny, you have spent a lot of time trying to figure this out and now you want us to spend a lot of time trying to figure out what we can't see. Why don't you post the plan. Why do we always have to ask for this.
  15. I agree with Perry. I would bet it is user error. It may be confusing, but I can get through it and if you know what you are doing, you can get through it..... with all due respect.
  16. That my friend is clever. You get the overhang at edge of deck
  17. No, but what I have is an achy body after 2 days of snow boarding. And I have another day to go. I don't ever remember being this sore after boarding. And now back to our regularly scheduled program.
  18. Bill just gave you the best advice. Why? Because posting a question on this site ilicits multiple answers, and one is usually the best one for your situation. See the "NICHE" threads.
  19. That is probably an option in prefs you have not set.
  20. I think you will find that if stud layer is on, you see studs, if you turn stud layer off, you will get the ply shthg look.
  21. Really great stuff Joe, thanks.
  22. Joe, how about a quick vid. I am confused.
  23. So funny, I looked for that at 2:45 this morning and did not see it. Maybe I was still asleep. Leaving now for 3 days of skiing with number 1 son.
