If you press you windows Key and R then type in winver it will give you your windows 10 version and build number. Then go to settings> Update & Security> Update History and check the KB numbers and corresponding dates because not everyone is on the same update schedule with Microsoft. Some people are just updating to version 1703 now while I have had it for a while now but was nowhere near the first to have it.

It would be helpful to know what version of Chief you are running and also what operating system and which specific update you are suspecting caused the problem. You can put all that in you signature so others can help you better.

Now you are getting really creative. There are all kinds of potential uses, it just depends on the client and project details. Sorry I may not have made that very clear about the transparency. I should have said "If we could export directly to layout with transparency", meaning that it would be a great feature for you to suggest and show your examples in the suggestion forum. Likely many other techniques that could also benefit.
-
That looks great Andy. Thanks for sharing and keep up the good work. You might be able to skip the Photoshop step if you could export directly to layout with transparency, or even indirectly as you are now doing things it might still be possible if all generated from the same camera.

Does anyone know what the Roof Truss Maximum Height setting does and how to use it. Can I set that to my max shipping dimension and trim the truss with it ? Again the manual is not so helpful "• Specify the Maximum Height of the selected truss."

So if you highlight in the Project Browser and right click it does not give you the option to delete ?

If your not worried about safety or fire then just draw what you need with polyline solids and apply a matching material. If you have any extra room a little slope really helps you find the next step on the way back down.

I think you have just presented the perfect example for a current discussion at the end of this thread that got a little off topic : I am sure I will be quickly corrected if I am wrong but I believe that you will have to raise your building pad by entering - 2 1/8" in the "Subfloor Height Above Terrain:" and then go through your whole plan file and edit the Absolute Elevations for every 1st floor room and above by adding 2 1/8" to the existing values. Also watch out for items that have elevations that are not referenced from floor level and you may also have to manually raise the roof unless it is still set to auto. Please first make a copy of your plan file just in case I am not correct and you end up with a mess. Good Luck. Actually you may not have the change the Building Pad. Try leaving that at 0.

Wow that is one wild roof Tiger.

Maybe a blank linestyle or same color as background. Not looking at the correct floor level. ???

Yes I believe others have also requested this option and it may be available in a future version but for consistency in rendering quality you can set the exact number of passes and you may want to use this option until there are more choices between 1 and 6 hours.

MASTER BATH | PASS-THROUGH | WALL NICHE | ISSUES
Chopsaw replied to interiorarch's topic in General Q & A
You can also make your own symbol if you like from a customized Chief Niche. Here is an old tutorial of mine for Door Muntins but you can just ignore the muntin steps and the other core steps are the same. You would be best to save the Niche as a general symbol and not a window. -

If you create the symbol in Sketchup with independent colors you can then import as .SKP and edit all those colors independently in the Materials tab of the Symbol DBX. I was going to suggest using Joe's Hole in the wall tool but since he designed that maybe his suggestion will work better. But take a look anyway because it works for all kinds of other cool things as well. I will check back later about the symbol. -
Yes viewer only works with cloud account and I believe is included with software purchase. I would give CA a call and get it sorted out. Or HDP 2015 may not even have that option. Is that listed as an Export option from camera view ?

STL is used for CNC machining I believe and has no textures or color. Chief does not export .OBJ

Maybe something like this if you local code allows it :https://chieftalk.chiefarchitect.com/topic/15119-alternating-tread-stair/?do=findComment&comment=127828

MASTER BATH | PASS-THROUGH | WALL NICHE | ISSUES
Chopsaw replied to interiorarch's topic in General Q & A
Likely the easiest way is to assign those colors in Sketchup and then they can be edited in Chief if necessary. The model can be rebuilt in Chief but it is fairly complicated. Michael made a video of the technique that I will look for if you like. A wall Niche is essentially a window and it will not insert into a situation like that. You will likely need to create a symbol and then cut a hole in both walls at the intersection and custom frame the area. Or better yet and much easier make the vanity 4" smaller and the shower 4" larger and build an extra wall so you are not cutting into an exterior structural wall. There was an old CA training video on symbol windows but I looked and could not find it under the new system. -
You may have more success with a .DAE export as it does not have as many restrictions as 3DS. It should export everything in the plan file that is visible in camera view but not the background. That is usually up to the viewing software to provide.

Johnny I believe the extent of what you can do is edit the way the icons look or add more stock but less commonly used icons. Move things around and organize them almost any way you like. Or add custom library icons of your own. I recently added a second Annotation set drop down tool over near the right end to be used with ALDO Layersets. But if you want a button to quickly take you to your favorite layerset or annoset with one click I think the answer is No. But someone hinted that things are going to be a little different in X10 so that may make things easier to do what you need.

Do you have a shop drawing of a standard one that you use with a few measurements of the detail and stock size ?

I usually just reopen current plans from Startup Options or the Open Recent Files list and if there is a more recent auto save then Chief will usually ask if you would prefer to use it.

Do you have "Ignore Casing for Opening Resize" selected in General Plan Defaults ? That might help.- 14 replies

Can you export from another plan file to fix your template plan or do you need a donor set? The default right drop down menu is for your Annotation sets. You could rebuild them manually but if it is just the default ones it would be easier to import.

CURVED SHOWER WALL WITH "STORE FRONT GLASS PANELS"
Chopsaw replied to Lynsey_FP's topic in Seeking Services
Hard to tell exactly without the plan but you should be able to make a single layer wall definition with and invisible material but unfortunately it will only work in Standard view and not Vector veiw or make your windows just a little larger and bury the wall segments.- 14 replies
