  1. Just took a quick look at your plan. The roof could be a problem as there are no overhangs on several of the sides, try building this again. With the foundation it needs to have a floor, the foundation you have seems to be just a slab type. You may need to change this so you can assign an actual floor to it.
  2. Even with a roof and foundation, if you have the sun intensity and/or the environment light cranked up too high you will get that light bleed.
  3. You should reduce your pic size, especially given your laptop specs. If you ran that at say 1200 X 1000 your Ray Trace time would likely be about 1 hour. For any given pic size, if you double it then your Ray Trace time will quadruple.
  4. Just checking this out now. The problem with the glass is not the glass, it's that the tiles on the wall in the shower are set to a polished material. Just change them to either a general or a reflective material and all will be good.
  5. As David James indicates, it's likely an overheating issue. In most cases if it was a ram frequency problem then your system would not even boot up. Also, when Ray Tracing it is normal that all assigned cores will run at 100%, that's how it works. Before trying any type of overclocking you should first stress test your system at it's default settings to establish a benchmark and to make sure everything is working properly under all conditions, especially on a self-built system.
  6. Tamela, if you could post the plan I would take a look at it and adjust the lighting and send it back to you.
  7. True, but he represents the few not the many. Creativity is not something that can be taught, it comes from within the individual. Fortunately he had that and the opportunity to work and learn from other very prominent Architectural firms at the time.
  8. Lew, I fully understand, that's why is said "Competent". This is applicable regardless of the magnitude of a project. The problem is that there are unfortunately many out there with an attitude and that includes all involved. No amount of training or schooling will overcome this, listening to client needs, respecting budgetary limitations and just being a nice individual to work with is not part of the curriculum. Regardless of budget or project scale, there is just no excuse for anyone to ignore such simple things as proportions of scale, style adherence, basic ergonomics or quality of workmanship.
  9. Agree 100%. Competent Architects and Designers fulfill the creative aspect of a project, they define the vision. Competent Engineers and Contractors figure out how to accomplish this, they make it happen. When the two come together the result is amazing, what once could not be done is now done and a new benchmark has been set. This is exemplified throughout time from the great pyramids, Angkor Wat, the Empire State Building, Golden Gate Bridge, Hoover Dam just to name a few.
  10. Complex shapes will always behave that way if you do not maintain the aspect ratio or unless you access the symbol and are able to find an acceptable place in the symbol to define a cut plane(stretch zone). If for example within the symbol there is a round hole and the stretch zone is within the hole then any independent change to the width or height will change the round hole into an oval, it will only remain as a round hole if the original ratio of height to width is maintained.
  11. Please correct me if I'm off base here. I believe the difficulty arises due to the type of objects these are, they are not cad type objects and as such dimensioning is similar to that of symbols, the bounding box determines the dimensional snap points, not the object held within. As a bounding box only has it's outer edges and center that's all you can dimension to. For cabinets there must be some type of bounding box nesting that allows you vertically to dimension separately the toe kick, counter top and the overall box in between. For width you can only dimension the left, center and right of the overall cabinet(bounding box).
  12. Pleased to have helped out. Thanks!!!
  13. Personally, Windows Defender is the best for Windows when it comes to anti virus protection. If you are concerned about things like Ransomware then none of the anti virus programs are going to provide adequate protection if any at all. Ransomware is not a virus per say, they are programs that take control of you system and are disseminated via e-mail attached executable files, executable macros in spreadsheet and word type docs or web pages. To protect against this you need to scrutinize e-mail attachments and for web pages you can run your browser in a sandbox environment that runs the browser in an isolated virtual space, if a ransomware type thing pops up then you just have to close down the sandbox, delete it's contents and the ransomware is gone.
  14. Just use the built-in Windows Defender. It has been tested against many other stand alone anti-virus programs and is just as effective and it does not use up resources like the others.
  15. If you open up the Camera DBX there is an Ambient Occlusion slider, try changing it to see if it does the trick.
  16. Looks like you are running a Ray Trace, if so then the ceiling/wall shading is controlled by the Ambient Occlusion Min & Max. It also looks like you have some light bleed on that back wall (bright band along wall & ceiling intersect), make sure to have a roof on your structure.
  17. The limitation has been imposed by the graphics card manufacturer and is related to Open Gl. If you check out the detailed specs for the cards you will find this 8 light max. You can also see this in CA under preferences, video card. CA extracts this info from the card. When I dug into this a bit deeper it appears that there is no reason that Open GL can't handle more than 8 active lights. Supposedly most software companies have moved away from using the Open GL light function and use other much more efficient shader methods for lighting effects. As such, it appears that the card manufacture's have decided that there is no need for more than 8 lights when using Open GL. I'm just the messenger here!!!
  18. Another way to see exactly which lights are "on" is in the light fixture DBX under Light Data check the show position box. A cross hair with a directional arrow will show in the view, this only shows if the light is considered "On".
  19. Very interesting, when in this view open up the adjust light dbx and check the list of lights, it will say whether or not the light is actually being used in the view. I think you will find that only 8 will be identified as actually being on. The others only look on due to effects such as bloom.
  20. Here's one I did about 6 months ago. If this is what you are looking for let me know and I will pull it the light fixture from my library and post.
  21. Thanks Tommy & Michael - Nicely explained and videos too. Definitely worth a point for both of you.
  22. Works Like a Charm!!! Real easy and no drawing to do at all. Took about 5 minutes and that's because it was the first time. I can't imagine how long that would have taken if everything had to have been drawn from scratch.
  23. Thanks everyone for the great info. What interest me the most about this is that in CA it can be very difficult to create certain shapes, especially anything that is more freeform. With this method I can likely find an existing symbol that has the shape I'm looking for, delete all unrelated structure and isolate the shape for use in another model/symbol. As an example, if I don't like the shade on a table lamp but like the base I can find a table lamp with the shade I like and easily make a new table lamp that has the base and shade I want. Nothing to draw, just delete, position and convert back into a symbol.
  24. Could very well be, not the first time I've missed something. I just can't recall this being mentioned in those 3D modeling discussions over the past 6months or so, maybe it was but I just didn't put it all together. Thanks for bringing it up in this post, I'm certainly going to play around with it over the next few days. Cheers!
  25. Cool !!! This Technique needs to be brought to the forefront. There has in the past been a considerable amount of discussion concerning CA's limited 3D modeling capabilities. Being able to plagiarize an existing symbol model from within CA would certainly be a big help in this area.
