  1. Not on your plan, but that's the way I have my plan set up so when I create a fence it won't "Frame". Also, it appears you have the Wall Framing Layer turned on in that view - why?
  2. Here you go. Note however that this is to support attic floor loads as well - it's overkill. TB-824.pdf
  3. What is your span and loading. I can run it thru Strucalc.
  4. Scott, You should probably select a simpler Wall_Type for your fences. I use a single transparent layer just the thickness I need. Never use a Wall_Type with a framing material and avoid Pony Walls. This pretty much goes for Railing Walls as well. I think Chief's Default Fence Wall_Type uses 2x4 Fir Studs. Change that material to a non-framing material (preferably transparent) and the framing problem will go away.
  5. Bob, All of this is pretty much basic CAD drafting. Chief does provide the ability to: Create Framing of Walls, Floors, Ceilings, Roofs, etc. Create Cross Section Views Auto Detail those with fill, etc. Convert all or a portion of those views to CAD Details (View to CAD) It also provides some basic details in the "Libraries" but as Larry said, they are almost never exactly what you want or need. While you can edit them, it's usually just as easy to use some of the components to build your own details - or add to / modify the result of "View to CAD. Chief is never going to do everything automatically. It looks like you've been using Chief for a long time. I'm a little surprised you don't more familiarity with the capabilities and limitations. The videos in the KB are basic & intended to show the general proceedure. Trying to follow them exactly will only work in a very few cases.
  6. You can't. The Sketchup object has to have separate materials.
  7. Here's a pic. I actually used 2 Wall Material Regions: 1/32" thick black material 3/4" Thick Wood (set at 12" tall and multi-copied at 14" both of the above were set to cut the exterior wall surfaces. The really nice thing about this system is that it automatically adjusts to Doors and Windows. I use basically the same system for Board and Batt siding.
  8. Take a look at doing it with a Wall Material Region (12" tall x 1" thick). Then copy vertically at 14" spacing. Your wall can just be a black surface - paint or a black material..
  9. Here's a way to make your symbols available for prior versions of Chief
  10. Exporting a Library Symbol only makes it available for the current and future versions of Chief. Many times users of prior versions would like to be able to use the symbol. Here's how to make that possible: Place your symbol in a Blank Plan and display a 3D view Use one of the File>Export>Export 3D Model options ( I like 3DS but the others will work ) In your post for sharing the symbol, attach the exported file Provide instructions for Importing: 3D Origin values Options Sizing (mostly Stretch Plane info) This makes it possible for users of prior versions to Import the Symbol and have it work.
  11. Yep, that's been a problem forever. CA should provide an "Angled Back" Cabinet option. For now, all we can do is use an "Angled Front" Cabinet, make the back look the way we want it and rotate 180 degrees. I've requested CA make an "Angle Back" many times but so far no luck.
  12. I see so many threads in this Forum "Tips and Techniques" that belong in the Q&A Forum. Why? Don't the posters read what this forum is for? It's very annoying to open a new thread just to find that it's a Question instead of a Tip. Here's my TIP for CA. Please have someone at CA monitor this forum and move threads that don't belong here to the correct Forum.
  13. I think that's only true if you are using Chief X10's default plan template. If you are using a different plan template then you need to create those "Saved Plan Views" yourself and save the template..
  14. The T120 Sheet Feeder will accept 12x18. Of course, you need to define the Custom size paper as 12x18. OTOH, I like my check prints a little larger so I am using the Roll Feeder with 16x24 for Arch-D reduced. It is then printing at only 1/3 less than 1/4" scale.
  15. That's been available at least since X8, but it was called "Deactivate"
  16. Really? I am able to switch the activation of X8 - activate, deactivate & activate on another system. I wonder why you can't - are you just missing the activation password?
  17. As long as you have the older version installed on your computer(s) you should have no problem activating and using them. The older deactivate/activate system still works. Hopefully you've kept the old install program (preferably a backup on the cloud) that you downloaded back then. That way, even if have a computer crash you can reinstall.
  18. I'm 76 and don't plan to ever stop practicing architecture. But I do think CA should provide me with a pension.
  19. "Save As" works fine. Just make sure you save it to a different folder. There are some ramifications regarding Layout and Links that need to be dealt with.
  20. Yep, I noticed a couple of days ago that CA had changed the Web Site for this. It's the same functionality but you just access it differently.
  21. I concur with Mick's response. I did find the "Rate this Topic" (5 Star Icon) but the old "User/Member" list is gone.
