So it's not just that you reinstalled Chief and I don't know of any setting in Chief that would cause this behavior.
-
For anyone using X9 or later. While these symbols will still work, it's better to use Chief's "Wall Niche" tool. It has all the settings and functionality for shape, size, trim, materials, etc. In addition, wall framing recognizes the Niche and frames the opening. A couple of the symbols are still useful - such as the Washing Machine Hookup.
-
That might be a slight exaggeration.

The Bottom Frame Width can be set to zero. That will make it flush with the top of the Interior Sill. The only problem with this is that the frame material is the same as the "Interior Sash" material. Chief should really make the frame have: A separate material - would work well for "No Casing" or at least the same as the "Interior Trim" material It's fairly uncommon that the frame material would not be the same as the casing material - but it would be pretty rare that it would be the same as the sash material.

Have you checked to make sure your video card is actually being used by Chief Architect? A new install may not have picked that up. Your video card control panel may not be set to over-ride the built-in video. Since you installed a new hard drive you also must have a new version of the OS. It's very likely that your system just isn't using the video you think it is.

Perry, Both of the mirrors in the corner are the stock material "mirror" from the core library applied to material regions. Try it for yourself.
-
Here's an example of what I'm talking about. It also shows that you can get a mirror to reflect off of another mirror - just to show that the statement in another thread wasn't correct.

You could actually use 2 WMR's 3" thick drywall for buildout 1/4" Moss for back of "Niche"
-
No, but you can build the walls out thicker with material regions of drywall and make the basic wall surface moss. You just have to approach the problem from the opposite direction.

If possible, print your Layout to PDF. Then print the PDF. You will have much more control.

Alan, Go to the foundation and change the stem wall to 8" concrete. Then uncheck "Room provides Floor for Room Above" Or something like that. The Porch Slab should then be correct.

No, Dropbox is on your local computer and that's what Chief uses. The update is only done after the plan or other file has been changed. That's done by the Dropbox program in the background. Note that Plan and Layout files are not actually changed until they are saved.
-
I just checked. It can be done and in fact I had already done it: Copy the "Database Libraries" folder to Dropbox. In Preferences>Folders change the "Database Libraries Folder" to your Dropbox location. Now any changes you make will be synced. Just be sure you do this on all computers. Note that you might need to do this for each new version of Chief - but not for updates to the current version.
-
I don't know if that would work or not. I think Chief hard codes the folder(s) for those items - or sets them on installation.
-
Yes, of course. I do that with both the data folder and with my projects folder. Everything is always current no matter where I am.
-
Yes, there is a way to do this. For the beginning of the string it requires that you get the integer value of the string. You can then convert that to a string value (str) and use string.sub(str,"") For the end of the string it's a little more complicated in that you need to determine which how many characters are numerical and just shorten the string.

Jorge, Do you use Rescheck in Fresno? Down here in SoCal we have to use CalCERTS.
-
Not that I can find.

The "Reference Elevation" for Level 1 will in fact always be 0. But if you need to show it differently in plan or section/elevation - that can be done with a custom macro.
-
If you have a Terrain Perimeter, you can set the Level 1 Elevation Offset in the Terrain dbx.
-
When you add a Floor below "Level 1" Chief simply re-numbers the "Levels". It can't have a Level below zero so whatever floor is above Level 0 will always be Level 1. That's not the same as 1st Floor. For Example you could have the following: Level 0 = Foundation Level 1 = Basement Level 2 = 1st Floor Level 3 = 2nd Floor Attic = Attic -or- Level 0 = Foundation Level 1 = Basement 1 Level 2 = Basement 2 Level 3 = 1st Floor Level 4 = 2nd Floor Attic = Attic
-
Kyle, Chief doesn't actually label anything as: Foundation Lower Level Main Level Basement etc. Rather, it uses: Level 0 Level 1 Level 2 etc Attic It's up to you to name those as above. Level 1 will be by default "0.00" unless you change it. Within Defaults, you can specify the "Elevation" of the "Current Floor". It's generally best to start with the Attic and work down to get these values to agree with what you are wanting.
