Tim from Design Build Solutions posted a recent video that might give you some insight and tips. He shows a window solution, but probably relevant for a door too. Jim

You're welcome. A lot of Chief things are still a bit of a mystery to me, but I'm enjoying the program. It's pretty nuanced. Jim

In my case I had my text notes as a separate CAD detail. (I think this is best practice per forum advice). That's what DB Cooper was referring to. The settings of this CAD detail were affecting the text note text sizing. Hope that helps. Jim

Joe, I don't understand your question. Can you clarify? Jim

Joe, I had a similar problem last year. The layer / text style was creating the problem. Perhaps this is the solution: Jim

I figured it out. Know I know how. Thanks for pointing me in right direction Eric. Jim

I don't know how.

I bet this is an easy one, but I'm still confused on how to accomplish. I'd like to add the dimension toolbar button to my Layout screen similar to what I have on my Plan screen. Current LAYOUT: Current PLAN: Thanks again and have a great weekend! Jim

The railing tool allows you to select a Library object for the baluster. I just drew a skewed polyline, converted to solid, and then converted to millwork symbol while adding to Library. Here's a tutorial that should help: https://www.chiefarchitect.com/support/article/KB-02893/creating-custom-balusters-and-railing-panels.html Type "custom baluster" in Chief's search and you'll get a lot of results. I think if you spend some quality time on this you can get a good result. Jim

Can this be a railing object? (1st time trying this so someone more experienced could chime in if any possible limitations). I created a custom angled library baluster. Result seems pretty good. Did this is X15. Jim

Here's a thought -- could you have two layout boxes "stacked" on top of each other with duplicate views but different visibilities and render styles? View 1 with everything as glass house and View 2 with only the solid object on its own layer visible? Jim

Ok, good to know. I posted to suggestions. Maybe this squeaky wheel will get the grease. Jim

I think Rachel is looking for a default setting instead of manual adjustment. I don't think there is one, but could be wrong.

Thanks Doug for looking into this. Jim

I'm placing a steel I-beam column in plan. How come the plan graphic does not show as an I-beam? Round, C-Channel and U-Channels seem to show correctly in plan, but Steel-I show as a box? Thanks again, Jim

Awww shucks! Thanks! this was new to me. Jim

Quick question -- Does Chief allow you to assign / paint properties from a wall railing to a stair railing? I have a railing wall defined and would like to quick-apply to my stair railing without having to go into the stair properties and adjusting the railing specs. Kind of think no, but I thought I'd ask. Thanks once again, Jim
-
I figured it out (pats self on back). I had "Lock Tread Depth" checked. This fixed the run length of the stair. So, I unchecked "Lock Tread Depth" and instead checked "Lock Number of Treads." This allowed me to adjust the curved stair drag points to some cad helper lines I drew. Jim

Good afternoon, Laying out a curved stair. How can define the overall run of the stair to be exactly 90 degrees? As you can see, the stair below is close, but slightly off. I must be overlooking a setting or unclear on technique. Thanks again, Jim

I have drawn up several houses based on Matterport files from my client. (Matterport was the only provided as-built info for a few reasons). I was initially excited about the tech. as it is very whiz-bang. But, after struggling with drawing dimensional discrepancies became less so. I then took a look at Matterport's accuracy claim out of curiousity and it is 1%. This is 6" over 50 feet. To me that's a lot and a lot less accurate than a laser distance finder. That said, I do appreciate Matterport as a possible substitute for site photos. Jim

Thanks for everyone's 2 cents and advice on technique. Good stuff! I think I might propose a convert / explode cad box feature to Chief on suggestions. Maybe they'll consider it. Jim
-
Neat. But, does this method only work in plan view? I don't think it's doable in a Cad detail (?) Jim
-
Good morning, Does Chief allow you to convert / explode a Cad Box to a polyline? I'm doing detailing. I use a lot of Cad Boxes, but there are some times I'd like to turn the boxes into adjustable polylines. Using X15. Thanks again! Jim

Brett, I bet you're right. Makes perfect sense. Thanks, Jim
