  1. Good morning, I've been using the terrain tools more and more and enjoying them, but still run up against terrain blips / squiggles at abrupt grade changes. I suppose Chief is calculating grade and is freaking out a bit... Couple of questions: I understand Chief terrain is modeled realistically as a curved "drape" (for lack of a better term). But, is there a setting that simplifies the terrain model and treats it more as "folded planes" with sharp creases rather than complex curves? For my purposes, not having a complex curved terrain would be perfectly okay. If not, does anyone just skip the terrain tools and use 3D solids? I'd be interested if this is a passable technique. Thanks again, Jim
  2. Interesting coincidence -- My PC "broke" a few weeks ago. It was still under warranty, so I sent it into the shop (NZXT). It was also the power supply. I hope to get the PC back next week. Fingers crossed. One thing I need to commend Chief on based on this experience: I found getting a fresh copy of Chief up and running on my temporary PC to be super easy and painless. Including switching the single user license to this PC. My other work is using Autocad Architecture, and reinstalling that is a royal PITA and to be avoided! Jim
  3. I'm curious if we have any control of the arrow style of opening indicators. I searched but could not find. Would like the arrow to match my solid arrow leader style. Thanks once more. Jim
  4. I found this industry change interesting, somewhat surprising yet understandable and in the end no big effort to implement on my part. I prefer to use the term "main" instead of "primary." To me it sounds less contrived / clinical. It's also easier to type. Jim
  5. Thanks. Super helpful. I watched how escape cycles through different tools, and thought it was tripping out! Jim
  6. I feel like I should know this by now, but I don't. What's the difference between space bar and escape keys in Chief, if any? I find myself wanting to use the escape key a lot to "leave" a tool mode. Likely a habit from other programs... Thanks again, Jim
  7. Brilliant! I had mulled sub-units which I did not de-mull. Time for a glass of mulled wine. Thanks again and taking the time. Jim
  8. Thanks to everyone for the very responsive and detailed help. I will work through all this! P.S. I went to the grocery store and came back 1 hour later to all this good input. Really a helpful community. Jim
  9. Tried that but didn't work.
  10. I thought it was automatic too... Plan posted. I clouded the area on Floor 2 so you can find it. Thanks DB. KELLY - PROPOSED (2).zip Jim
  11. Good morning to all, My mulled window unit is not suppressing the room's wall base / molding. You can see the 4" base running through the window unit below. Is there a setting somewhere for this? As a test, I deleted window unit and replaced with door. The wall base stopped at the door as expected. Thanks again for help, Jim
  12. Looks really great! I think I read in a previous post that a limitation of a single stair flight is that it cannot overlap or cross over itself in plan. Is this why you stacked 2 sections? Jim
  13. I just looked at Newegg and they still have cards with Cyber Monday discounts, but ending soon as it's now Thursday. (act fast!) I'll let others recommend a card, but I have a Nvidia RTX 3080, which works well for me. Jim
  14. Thanks Mark. Looks pretty cool. I'll try this tomorrow. Jim
  15. I've been following this discussion as I've also shared Kristjan's concern about the clarity of OOTB standard window and door callouts. I personally think inches underscored is a classic and clear format. Don't think superscript would even be necessary. But, I suppose getting the underlines to work would be a macro job. Jim
  16. This is maybe out of curiousity and for my own education... I added this fancy circular window from the core catalog after I could not create a circular window with a muntin pattern from the window DBX. However, I see that the library window seems to be a "true window" according to its specification. It got me wondering: how come I cannot create fancy muntin patterns for a "regular" window? Or, shouldn't I be able to recreate a library window using regular window specs? how are these library windows different -- if at all -- from regular windows? Are they leftovers from older Chief versions? What are these creatures? Thanks, Jim
  17. CAD and BIM software can be complex and trying. I've been doing this since the early 90s and I always felt that it takes a minimum of 6 months to get familiar with a new CAD program. Longer if it's 3D. I bought Chief a little over a year ago and I finally feel it's starting to gel with me. I hope you persevere. Keep your expectations reasonable and stick with it! Good luck, Jim
  18. So... what's the mystery program??? Curious!
  19. Not sure if this is your scenario, but if the overlapped lines are duplicate lines on top of each other and if you have Autocad, you could do cleanup in Autocad before you export to Chief. Use the "Overkill" command. It's a handy command that deletes and consolidates duplicate linework. Jim
  20. As a newish user with a newish perspective influenced by the software I used to use, I'm pretty happy with Chief. Very good customer support, tutorials, user forum, etc. I definitely appreciate that emphasis. And, the software is robust. I sometimes feel the software could use more spit and polish. Kind of hard to qualify. But maybe that's something we need to live with given that it's a smaller company... Lastly and with regards to priorities, I would always prefer improvements to basic architectural features and tools over any new 3D content (furniture, fixtures, etc.) and maybe even cabinetry tools. Not complaining, but to me that stuff should be secondary to the basic nuts and bolts. Hope Chief takes this as "constructive input!" Jim
