Ok, thanks for confirming. I'll try to make a request / suggestion. Jim

Thank you. CS, do you have any insight into why Chief won't allow creating a custom pattern with anything other than a continuous linetype? Jim

Well, I'm stumped... Kind of like NY Times Sunday crossword

Yes, exactly like that. What's the magic trick? Jim

Good morning, I am trying to use the CAD / Patterns / Create New Pattern tool in order to create a new grid pattern with fine dashed lines. My goal: a 12x12 grid of fine dashed hatch pattern to represent existing ceiling tile to be removed on a ceiling demolition plan. (I have created polylines with fill hatch patterns to represent these dropped ceilings). My problem: Whenever I create the new pattern, the CAD linework reverts to by layer (continuous). The desired fine dash linestyle does not "stick." From what I can tell, the CAD pattern tool only allows continuous lines (grrr). Any ideas what I'm doing wrong? Thanks once again, Jim

You could go with a standing seam metal roof or a single-ply membrane roof such as TPO. Check with a roofer or roofing manufacturer to confirm the minimum slope required for the roofing product. Jim

Wanted, No patterns for walls and roofs on remodel.
JKEdmo replied to DougDM's topic in General Q & A
Okay, here's an idea -- In the as-built elevation layout box specification, set the pattern lines to white. Then they disappear against white background. The result: If you stitch the two halves together -- as-built at left and proposed at right -- , might be effect you are looking for. Jim -
Thank you sir! Thanks! old school = good school! Jim

Very cool. Thanks! One question - it looks like this controls the hatch of the material globally, right? Jim

Good morning, In elevation or 3D, is there a way to control / offset the hatch pattern on a wall-by-wall basis? For example, in order to have my CMU begin as a full course on top of its footing, or to have the lap siding start with a full plank on the first / lower row. Thanks once again, Jim

Wanted, No patterns for walls and roofs on remodel.
JKEdmo replied to DougDM's topic in General Q & A
Doug, One possible approach... For this elevation below, I duplicated the layout boxes on top of each other (no offset). I then modified the layout boundaries to show two defined areas, e.g. color as new and black and white as existing. Essentially two jigsaw puzzle pieces side by side. (Layout boxes can be complex polylines and not just rectangles). Then I changed the one layout box to show color. Could work for you. I'm sure the power users might have other approaches. Jim -
Importing 3D model in created for realtor
JKEdmo replied to NewLeafHomeDesig's topic in Industry & Design Resources
I worked off a Matterport model recently to do a Chief as-built drawing. I struggled with some dimensional discrepancies compared to building exterior dimensions taken from the plat survey. So, I went to their website to read about their accuracy. They claim 1 percent. This can amount to 6" over 50 feet, which is a lot and not extremely accurate. Something to be aware of. Jim- 6 replies

Thanks! Thank you also! Jim

My corner trim boards show a joint / gap at the floor plate, which I don't like: Is this to be expected? Is there a setting or method to get the materials to merge? Thanks once again, Jim

Thanks Robert. I started with that and got pretty good results. At least for government work. Do you happen to know how to get vertical reveals between each unit to show up? Jim

Good morning, I'm drawing up an as-built plan for an office tenant improvement. Until now I've only been doing residential with Chief... I need to model existing radiator enclosures up against an exterior curtain wall: Just curious how one would approach this. Base cabinet? 3D solid? Thanks again, Jim

Interesting approach. I have not used the niche tool yet. I will try it out. Thanks again, Jim

Thanks for the explanation. Jim

I sent Chief a suggestion to allow trailing zeroes. My very first quarter of college in 1986 I had a surveying class. We had to be in the sheep fields at around 7 AM in the morning with the steel tape. I may still be suffering survey trauma.

I tried this, but it updated all the schedules, not just the one. Not sure I understand the feature, but I probably need to ponder this more. Jim

Thanks. Total bummer. Not end of the world though. Thanks! - Jim

Good morning, I'm drawing my CAD property lines and would like to have zero angle minutes displayed. Right now they are suppressed. I can't figure out where the setting might be. Thanks again for any help. Jim

This is certainly not a top priority question, but I was wondering what's going on with the schedule numbering here? Happens with accidental duplicate schedules and everything back to normal when extra schedules are deleted. I was just curious what Chief's numbering logic is here that produces this. Thanks again, Jim

Thanks Joey. That's kind of the way I've been doing it, or as individual chases. I was wondering if there was a method I was overlooking. Dunno. Just working of a supplied plan. Not able to visit site.

Very helpful video! I recently discovered that same layout tool that allows you to repath the .plan files. Up until now -- for about a year -- I had been repathing each layout view manually one by one! Jim
