Make sure the layer for the architectural block labels are turned on.
-
Isn't this what an architectural block is for? You can block your cabinets, mark the arch block as "treat as one object" and "include in schedule", and then choose the category you want it included as. You can also convert it into a symbol like Joe suggested but then you lose the ability to modify the cabinets.

I actually like the term "door toppers". We should lobby Chief to rename lintels.
-
Or, turn on print preview. BTW, this also affects how line styles will look. In both cases though, you need to make sure your drawing sheet is setup correctly or they won't be accurate.
-
That is pretty clever. I bet you could create even more door styles using custom muntins for your stiles and rails.

Like Ryan, I am finding less problems in X14 than I had in X13. Might depend on what types of "glitches" you are having, but could be video card issues, or maybe you aren't using the latest update (24.3)? You could also try working with tech support if you haven't tried them already.

Arc segments and smooth curves. How to get smooth.
DBCooper replied to GeneDavis's topic in General Q & A
Try this: - select one of the arcs - open the 3d solid dialog - go to the "selected arc" panel - uncheck "automatic facet angle" - set the angle to a smaller value, like 1 degree -
Try switching your active dimension default to the Legacy NKBA Dimension Defaults and then building your auto elevation dimensions. This comes from the X14 migration guide: NKBA Auto Dimensions In Chief Architect X13 and prior, the NKBA Auto Dimension and NKBA Auto Elevation Dimension tools had restricted default settings that met drawing standards set by the National Kitchen and Bath Association. In order to allow greater flexibility in Version X14, these tools have been merged into the other Auto Dimension tools. In plan files created using a template installed with Version X14, NKBA compliant dimensions can be created using the "Kitchen and Bath Dimension Defaults". In legacy plans opened in Version X14, use the "Legacy NKBA Dimension Defaults". The full guide is here: https://cloud.chiefarchitect.com/1/pdf/documentation/chief-architect-x14-migration-guide.pdf

"Just wasn't getting the results I was expecting." In cases like this, you can always post a picture of what you are getting (and even better, include the plan file), and people might have some better advice on what you can do.

"...set the desired ceiling height..." Just to be clear, you may want to set both the ceiling and floor heights in the new room you are creating with your 3 new walls. Heights are usually best controlled by rooms rather than trying to edit wall heights (until you get into special situations). The room dialog is also where you designate that the room type is "open below" so that it does not get a floor.

Check the system requirements and the known incompatibilities: https://www.chiefarchitect.com/products/sysreq.html https://www.chiefarchitect.com/products/known-incompatibilities.html If that doesn't help, I would try tech support.

They just announced beta testing for X15 (version 25). That means that Version 10 is now 15 versions old. I still have a Version 10 box and it looks like it came out in 2005. By software standards, we are talking ancient history. I don't think I have anything that is computer related that is over 17 years old that still works. You might consider upgrading just one of your licenses (at least then you would be able to get tech support) or maybe even doing the rental program. It will probably be like using a brand new program but I think it will still be able to open your old plans as long as you saved them in Version 10. I also agree with David, you should see if you can talk to someone higher up the food chain to see if there is anything at all they can do.

Line Weight Changes Not Showing Up in Elevation View
DBCooper replied to Renerabbitt's topic in General Q & A
Maybe a page setup/scale issue? I'm just guessing. Probably best to post the plan. -
Looks like you have a doorway in the wall. You should be able to change the settings on the shape panel of the door dialog but you may have to futz with the settings to get it to match the slope of the stair. On a side note, and really just curious, but if you have X14, why still using X13?

I don't know where you got that shutter symbol since I don't have one in my libraries. Regardless, you can copy it to your user library and use the "open symbol" button to check/adjust the y-offset. You can then use your modified shutter symbol for all of your windows. Basically, you can use this technique with just about any symbol to move them around when needed.
-
Check the shutter symbol and see if it has a y-origin offset.
-
I don't know of any way to change the line style. You can change the color using the layer like Steve is showing above. You can also turn on the layer for "opening header lines" but these will align with the framing instead of the wall surface.

Probably a video card or driver issue. See if this tech article helps: https://www.chiefarchitect.com/support/article/KB-00106/troubleshooting-3d-camera-view-display-problems-in-chief-architect.html

Need to make sure the plan is not open when you try to zip it.

900 series aluminum railings for chief architect
DBCooper replied to GP202256's topic in General Q & A
Not that I know of, but you might want to search the manufacturer or bonus libraries: https://www.chiefarchitect.com/3d-library/index.php?r=site/library&reset=true If you are trying to create the wagner 900 railing that Robert posted above, this would be very easy to build yourself, except for the multiple post styles. Chief doesn't handle multiple post styles out of the box so you will have to use some kind of a workaround. The simplest way to handle this would be to just manually place the corner posts on top of the one that Chief does automatically. This recent post had some different ideas for how to handle different post styles: https://chieftalk.chiefarchitect.com/topic/37231-newel-posts-between-post-to-beam-posts/ If you want something else, then you should probably post a picture with an example. -
Here is a great thread on how to build your own materials using substance player: https://chieftalk.chiefarchitect.com/topic/21560-custom-material-generation-with-substance-player/ It won't be able to create everything, but what it can create will look really good in Chief.
-
Another way that you can handle different cabinet styles is by using style palettes. If all you want to do is change the cosmetic details like moldings, door styles, hardware, materials, etc. you can setup style palettes and just click in the kitchen to update all of them. This won't work if you are going to have different layouts though. If you need to have different cabinet layouts, you might be able to create an architectural block out of them. Swapping out an architectural block is pretty easy when you want to see one config vs another.
-
I never use the edge line and pattern line defaults. I just setup the line weights/colors in the elevation view the way I want them to look. Then in the "send to layout" dialog, I make sure "use edge line defaults" and "use pattern line defaults" are both unchecked. WYSIWYG.
-
You could just manually place the newel post from the library that you want, anywhere you want. The picture below is just an automatic post to beam railing and then I manually added some different newel posts.

See if blocking the 4 rectangular windows first and then adding the arch to the block works better.
