  2. I use this too but always check the "Auto adjust default Glass properties" box too ....seems to work , if I get your "drift" is the setting "sticky" in X6 ? Edit: Just had a quick play and now see what you mean , the window next to the shower is "clear" but the 3/8 standard glass in the shower stall is opaque.... didn't notice that before.... also noticed if I turn colour off I see the subway tile "lines" in the shower ( only above the glass) ,with colour on I only get a white square where the Subway tile is.....
  3. Quote: Since we recently upgraded to X6, I've been working with multiple windows open: plan, sections, details, 3D, etc. I'm starting to think this is my problem. I seems that CA is "Building 3D Model" for every 3D window I have open I have 3 monitors and have noticed this as well when I break the tabbed windows away to my other screens , its as if there are now 3 instances of CA fighting for resources and things become very (very) slow.... multiple monitors was a feature I was waiting for but it appears as if that system isn't up to snuff yet....
  4. the book they are referring to is worth the $15 on amazon too , picked it up several months ago after reading that thread... "Get your house right" by Marianne Cusato
  5. might be still in the digest list ? but none on forum as of 2pm PST Tues that I see...
  6. Thanks Jon , needed a good laugh ..... sorry I'm no help to the OP either... I'll have to wait for JC's tutorial like the OP
  7. Another Name is Furnace, (which may also have a heat exchanger/airconditioner attached) and it looks like it is in the Mechanical area in the basement.... though I am not sure if it meets code as you need room to service the unit etc. I think in a lot of areas they must now be in "conditioned space" which the attic is not......usually.
  8. that's because they'd have to "guess" at the depth to estimate it....is my guess mind you look carefully , last small job my concrete pad was included in the exterior trim sub heading list.... Probably be easier and quicker just to work it out manually , especially since Chief would only model the "compacted dirt in place" which is not the Trucked Volume etc.
  9. volume would require "depth" so I'm not sure how it would work ? you'd be assigning a random number to the depth ie would you use eg 1" or 1' and I'm not sure it would give you the "after" anyway
  10. Yep Spam was high this weekend but I think the Mod is back as I think I hit the report button at least 8-10 times in the last few days and all have disappeared including the two late last night. Keep hitting the Report button , they will get the idea and hopefully do something about it......
  11. I thought the Patterns were in the Patterns Folder in the Install directory ? not the Textures Folder which is in the UserData folder in My Docs. ? M
  12. Not sure If I have ever heard a name for where the Raked gable soffit runs into the Flat Eave soffit ( boxed eave per Chief ) But as Levis has said it is a pretty Common detail these days so would be nice to automate M.
  13. Think that Cali.Gable is a Dutch Gable Joe? there is a Kb Tut. on those too.... http://www.chiefarchitect.com/support/article/KB-00749/#
  14. oh hang on I think 3D Printers are .STL not .STP and it looks like we can import or export them...... so perhaps CA does not support .STP but I think I saw something about a converter to .DWG
  15. yes the HD Products can too but I thought .STP was for 3D Printers? M.
  16. did you check out there stuff at 3D Warehouse? https://3dwarehouse.sketchup.com/search.html?backendClass=entity&q=Keuka
  17. Parapets and scuppers as suggested, if you want it to look flat from the street but the image on the Chief Website doesn't look flat to me , hence my response re the Mono-slope but maybe I interpreted the question wrong , wouldn't be the 1st time today
  18. I certainly didn't get that from the OP's question , and in your 1st image Levis I don't see a flat soffit behind, just the Gable trim-board which I'd use a Soffit for probably (or 2 for shadow-lines) The Roof would be trusses ( no overhangs) sitting on top of the beams in the real world , so the soffit /porch ceiling would be flat , so I guess Chief isn't modelling the bottom of the flat truss outside the beam for some reason and still following the Roof slope..... needs to go on the BUG list I guess ,assuming you are framed with Trusses not Rafters, cos the trusses are getting cut off by the soffit in that case. Mick
  19. looks like a stray ceiling plane to me too...
  20. This Style is pretty common especially Downunder , so I am sure Glen and some of the Kiwi guys will chip in too , often called a Monoslope ,( or Skillion Roof in Oz) but basically built like a big Shed Roof. There is no need for crickets really , it can be done with the edge Flashing, it has a vertical edge standing up about 1 - 1 1/2" above the roof surface to channel water down the roof to the standard gutter at the bottom ( similar to the shed roof edge flashing actually). On a large project it may still be advisable of course ( commercial Job approach), but the upstand stops water rolling off the edge and "dripping" and causing staining etc. on larger built up Fascias. The rest of the detailing is pretty standard as far as Soffits, venting, Low Slope roofing ( Torch-On) etc. Last one I built was a small Art Studio but I only got a couple photos with the edge showing ( and the Client's painting )
  21. guess I misunderstood that question looks like a standard raked gable soffit to me? unchecking "boxed eave" in the build Roof DBX > options should give you that. M.
  22. I am sure if there was better Documentation or a Tutorial on the Feature especially since ChiefArmstrong mentions no one uses the feature properly and to be "careful" it would go a long way towards the less negative Comments, nearly everyone here likes the idea, and I for one would like to know how to use it properly ,with knowledge "from the horse's mouth" rather that figuring it out for myself..... M.
  23. so exposed Rafter Tails and Lookouts ? don't build soffits on the build roof DBX ? DJP has a video here : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xNgz1TJ8TLk or try turning off Eaves in the display options ? make the material for eaves >"Opening-no material" depending on what you want to achieve.... other vids http://www.chieftutor.com/roof/rafter.html Scott has vids there too.... http://www.chieftutor.com/scotthall4/
  24. no problem , your posts are the only ones I have seen Keuka mentioned in so I used that for the search term figuring there couldn't be too many "hits" M.
  25. As mentioned It is not well documented , had seen the checkbox but hadn't played with it. perhaps a KB Article or Video is in order ? be good to use it effectively as others mentioned. only thing I found in over 1200pgs of the Manual was : Framing Back Clip defines the back clip for framing members in cross section views. Framing must be set to display to see the effects of this value. A zero value does not back clip at all.
