  1. Hi ED , just wondering if Chief has tried the new 528.24 Studio Driver yet? I don't see any reference in the PDF of Chief's Issues being Fixed...... or Noted as an Open Issue. https://www.nvidia.com/download/driverResults.aspx/198730/en-us/ Mick.
  2. Thanks Steve for posting both these, as I am mostly doing Interiors in Chief too. * keeping the Sun Lumens low in PBR-RTRT helps to soften the "grain" on the larger surfaces such as the Drywall. M.
  3. Depends on your particular situation , it can be as simple as making the wall type defining the Porch the same width as the columns ie 18" in your case..... this is because Chief ALWAYS centers "Newel Post" on the Wall. make it 20" wide if you don't want the columns right at the edge etc. M.
  4. Steve Hof has been kind enough to add his recent foray into TM over in the Tips Sections, he has also added some of his files for everyone to Download. @stevenyhof Mick.
  5. I'm not sure there is a "proper way" , I think it's another of Chief's Quirks , ie the 1st floor wall ignoring the 2nd floor wall that is already above it in this situation, it should "sense" the wall / floor platform above and stop UNLESS the user Balloons it Up. ( The 1st floor Wall doesn't sense 2nd Floor Windows either which is a problem I run into occasionally and if that happened this Issue would come up either.) * Like you I had to pull the 1st floor wall back down manually ( unfortunately there's no "stop at 2nd Floor platform" radio button. Plan File incase some future Reader would like it...............Forum 2 Storey Front Porch.plan Mick.
  6. I don't believe it's an Option, I too wish it didn't happen , as you have shown it can lead to some very long dropdowns. M.
  7. You might find PixPlant useful then , only $39 for the Sole User Version too... I've been playing with it since V.3 but it was upgraded to V.5 last year. (* V.4 was skipped) https://www.pixplant.com M.
  8. Yes ....just draw it on the floor in plan view for example at true size , you only want the outline , ie a cross section through the header , not two pieces, as Kevin shows above, you then save the "outline" to your library , Chief should name it molding on doing so , I suggest you immediately give it a more descriptive name and place it into a new Folder called Moldings (for example) to aid organization going forward. *as a general rule , you always drawn Chief moldings facing to the right as Chief assumes the left side is the back.
  9. You could also try a true MAC Font like Andale Mono or Helvetica to make sure the Chief Font is not corrupted , you'll likely find both are easier to read anyway. M.
  10. This is exactly what I do ..... for windows with wood returns/ext. jambs it is pretty much universal in the Industry, I don't measure casings, I just note the size. On Cheaper builds with drywall returns into the Window Frame I just add 1" for (2) x drywall thicknesses. New Windows are generally Ordered 3/4"-1" smaller to allow for out of square and new Membrane, insulation, WRB, etc, etc and any "gaps" are easily covered by new Casings eg typically 1 x 4 vs the old 2 1/4" basic Builder C*** molding. 11. Hi, perhaps you'd both like to add your thoughts to this thread , I had the same frustration today....
  12. This might help................. https://www.homedesignersoftware.com/support/article/KB-00452/building-an-a-frame-structure.html M.
  13. I try to keep my Thread on Nvidia Drivers Updated , at least to Versions known to me to be good with Chief , which as in this case is not always Nvidia's latest. M.
  14. This is a Known Issue , and according to Ed Schafer ( Chief Developer ) Chief is working with Nvidia to find the Problem as it happens with all Drivers after 526.98 https://chieftalk.chiefarchitect.com/topic/16205-nvidia-drivers-updated/?do=findComment&comment=285783 (Scroll up in the thread above for Driver links) There is a Known Incompatibilities Page but it currently doesn't list this Issue on last check here : https://www.chiefarchitect.com/products/known-incompatibilities.html There is also my own thread on incompatibilities, and it does, not sure how many have seen it though ...over here: https://chieftalk.chiefarchitect.com/topic/31335-known-incompatibilities-with chief-architect-software/ M.
  15. Me either unfortunately , we may need someone to do another Suggestion for it M.
  16. Be happy too if I can find a set of reproducible steps, though I know in all cases it wasn't when I closed a Window. It usually repeats 3 times and if it happens a 4th then it is usually hard locked and doesn't CTD like when it repeats 2 or 3 times. M.
  17. I always do a Clean Install through the Driver Installer, ( I don't use Geforce Experience) though I have not done a full DDU uninstall if that is what you are referring too? As mentioned only happening in Plans started in X12. Any idea why the Auto-save appears to not be working , lost over an Hr today now with this 3rd crash. Thanks. M. * I worked the rest of the Day with no 3D cameras left open while working in other views and had no crashes .
  18. Still happening in 526.98 as well , and this Driver is the suggested one to Use...... followed by and then a replay of both at least once or twice more, then it crashes either to Desktop ( no save ) or is just locked up till I have to end it.... * this is in Elevation , however there is a Camera Open in another Tab too. Any comment Ed? @Chief_QA M. Yah ! beautiful another RED smartie for asking if Ben had any more info from Nvidia about this ongoing Issue.... It would see Auto Save isn't working properly either , the Layout hasn't been saved since 11.05 this AM ( now 4.25pm ) and neither the PP Plan or AB Plans have been saved since 3.53pm even though it set for 5 mins along with a hourly archive. M .
  19. Update Re: 526.86 - it is causing crashing in X12 based Plans for me with M-sizes errors. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 526.98 is recommended by CA ......all Drivers after 526.98 have issues CA is working with Nvidia on. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The 526.98 11/16/22 Studio driver is the latest driver that is approved to be used, the later drivers have an issue, we are working with Nvidia to resolve this issue. 20. Just an Update re 526.86 today I am back in a Plan started in an X12 Template and it is crashing with M-Size Errors for me this is typical ----- in pure X14 plans on 526.86 eg last week no issues at all. *just about all my crashes are related to old Plans brought forward. Mick.
  21. They could be, you just had to pay the difference in Additional to Full Pricing ie $900-1000 on top of the Transfer fee....... M.
  22. You need 526.86 or 526.98 as recommended by CA ......all Drivers after 526.98 have issues CA is working with Nvidia on. https://chieftalk.chiefarchitect.com/topic/16205-nvidia-drivers-updated/?do=findComment&comment=281778 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The 526.98 11/16/22 Studio driver is the latest driver that is approved to be used, the later drivers have an issue, we are working with Nvidia to resolve this issue. 23. ALL the long term Loyal Users I know , e.g. the 3 man Company mentioned above, were fully paid up on SSA and know it's Value, why do you think the two employees decided to buy Chief? chief however would not allow them to buy the two additional licenses from their Boss, so they had to buy their own Versions of Chief to stay Perpetual with SSA? ( the Boss however now has two licenses with full SSA not being used, so money down the drain for him...) I was not referring to the once every 3yr-4yr upgrader like SheriC , though with time and enough warning I am sure a number would them would of taken the plunge to X14, now most won't, (so that revenue is lost to Chief.) as a Subscription has "no value" except as a Biz write off, though our Perpetual copies are no longer worth anything either, unless you sell your Company , then Chief allows a Transfer to the new Owner. ( again info from the "Boss" mentioned above) M.
  24. that goes both ways , I need to find sometime to have a good long play with TM and see if I really need itin my work flow..... I had hoped for better things with a 3080Ti and PBR-RTRT but as yet that hasn't happened. Hmmmm I edit the 1st post of some of my Topics like the Nvidia Driver Thread often and I though you could edit the Title too? M.
  25. Nice, looks like the hard work is paying off Steve. I think you can remove the word Grass from the Thread Title now M.
