Wild Walls - See If You Can Get This to Happen On Your Plans
Kbird1 replied to HumbleChief's topic in General Q & A
Hi Larry any chance that is the plan you were trying to get Board and Batten on about a month ,maybe 2 back (looks similar) and Glen suggested using a separate framed wall? -
Can I add a lower floor after creating 1st floor
Kbird1 replied to PLL26house's topic in General Q & A
Build>Floor>Foundation >>derive from 1st floor ,hit OK and you should then be on Level 0 I thought Suite had Autobuild Foundation on by default but perhaps not this will give you Level 0 -
Well Jon , bad news is you don't need a vacation but I have to say your eyesight / monitor must be great .... The pixel at 0,0 only "shows" when you select something in the plan , and I had to switch my background to grey to see it happening I see it in your plan which I added a 00 point to , see if you see what I see ,a dark dot, in your updated plan below when you click on the Callout or CAD line Cross Untitled 8 with 0,0_Pixel.plan

How did you make the Railing section Rich? just curious as the ones I made in the other thread followed the stairs no problem using a manually drawn straight railing ( auto railing off ) and the Balusters set to Panel
-
Bit strange as I thought CA only needed to Check In once every 14 days (security) , unless you are activating/deactivating of course , so this "outage" really shouldn't have been an issue . M.

Thx guys appreciate the Good thoughts and Prayers , symbols and plans are in the Symbols Forum.

Cedar Railings with Wrought Iron Knuckles and Baskets
Kbird1 replied to Kbird1's topic in Symbols and Content
Hi Cheryl , in case you want to look , I added the actual symbol creation plan above with notes too. -
Thx Rich , nice to know someone missed me
-
These are the Symbols shown in the Q&A thread (and below) and a Test Plan to show how they look on the Deck as well as the Stairs and some notes on how they were made but I'll post some pics of the settings to use with the Railings in the Library Below too, so no need to download the plan to get the symbols unless you want to look at it. I also made CAD Blocks with the Balusters showing so you can turn on the Railing "Draw" setting if you like to see them in Plan view. . My Test Plan to make sure all was working including Stairs: Cedar and Wrought Iron Rail-Test Plan.plan The Actual Symbol Creation Plan for The Knuckle and Basket Railing Symbol ,with notes/how to Cedar and Wrought Iron Rail3.plan Note that the Wrought Iron has curves etc ,so may slow your plan down depending on your gfx card. Sorry to leave everyone hanging ,unfortunately I just spent a few days in Hospital and still need a few more tests. Actually I know all you guys can do it knowing your abilities with Chief but I will add a post in the Symbols Forum with the Rails shown above and another I messed about with while I was making those two ,which was relatively easy as someone at CA had already made the knuckles and baskets in the Bonus Arcways Baluster and Newels Catalogue. Making those isn't at my 3D artist skill level ie 0 , which is why I know anyone can do it Using a panel allows you to mix and match the balusters in the Railing , other wise CA only allows you to use a Single instance of any of them at a time , which it repeats, so making a short section which is repeated is pretty simple , especially once you do it once. Note: I found there was no point making 6' or 8' sections in this case , as it seemed to screw up the auto newel spacings etc and not work correctly ,so I keep it to about 3'. Mick Edit: the Post in the Symbols Forum: https://chieftalk.chiefarchitect.com/index.php?/topic/6005-cedar-railings-with-wrought-iron-knuckles-and-baskets/

I have seen posts before with issues with balusters ,so I know to use a panel for this type of thing , one can be made pretty much like the photo with the Arcways catalogue items it's not too difficult , the other I can't match as I don't have the Scroll in the middle so I used the Arcways Scroll ,but it is really too big, maybe the other scroll is in another library ? I didn't look to hard , it's late. If either works let me know and I'll posts the symbols in the Symbols forum. M.

Thanks Joe, I always appreciate your Macros , i'll delete the 1st file so I don't mix things up...

Thanks Joe , I guess you changed them since this morning and updated above?

Stainless Steel And Other Metals ...add Yours Please
Kbird1 replied to Kbird1's topic in Symbols and Content
Thanks , I have collected some more metal textures since I made the library above but have not turned them into a Library yet but here are the new Metals that I have , so you can make your own materials if needed , it's not too hard here is the Tutorial if needed. http://www.chiefarchitect.com/support/article/KB-00767/8/Chief-Architect/Materials/Creating-a-New-Material.html it's possible you already have some of them of course............ Metals.zip -
I think you'd have to make a custom Panel symbol , but the Arcways Baluster Library has most of those items in it
-
I used Railing walls for this Fir Pavilion I drew up a while back, and if you don't mind some manual work , like putting in the header over the Doors it works ok with a few caveats, like Chief's windows not working though library one's do , with some anomalies , I am sure Joe had figured that part out if you can find his old post. I actually made the Fir Posts clad steel as that was how I thought it might be built ie, cheaper to do at the time than a true Timber Frame, it wasn't too hard to make the post symbol and then use it as the specified Newel from the library for the Railing Wall. M.

Hi Allen , curious which material exactly , as it seems you got very lucky , what you did does not work with all Tile Textures , usually you need to made a new texture with Grout lines etc. M.
-
Sounds like you both need to pay Perry $6 a Tiff file

I think I saw you mention ,you are a new User so I would recommend you not only Download the User Manual off the Help Menu and save the PDF to you Computer , but Also the User Guide which has 8-10 Tutorials in it , one of which is on Creating Layouts. It can also be gotten on the Getting Started Page here: http://www.chiefarchitect.com/getting-started/ and a few videos http://video.chiefarchitect.com/?search=Layouts http://video.chiefarchitect.com/?playlist=105

They "updated" the ThermaTru Door Catalogue last week due to "Errors" too if you use it... they also added Bosco Mouldings if you need a few more. M.

Didn't Joe make a Post Label Macro a while back ? , I seem to remember another thread on this...

In this case It looks like your windows don't have casing ,so the other setting may not help , and the Window separation is just for that ,between windows only eg when Mulling Units . But you can actually you can use the same trick , you use for Corner Glass Windows and that is to SLAM the window in the direction you want and it will go thru the framing and butt up to the end of the wall .... you might need to try it once or twice to get the hang of it but move the window in the opposite direction and then quickly move it back the other way dragging the window through the framing etc and it should bump up against the end of the wall, but don't let go of the mouse button too soon ,if you hold it too long the window will popover to the other side of the wall break , so it might take some practice.... but it works when I can't get the Ctrl Key to work as Curt suggested M.
-
That's the one Curt , thx for the Pic , I have this set in my Template Plan now...
-
Do you have the Ignore Casing resize option in Defaults>Plan .... off ? check the box if so... it may also be the framing (2X studs) and RO measurements which defaults to 1" perhaps?
-
default Hotkey is F11 for Bumping on/off but I set mine to BB , easier to reach
