I am not getting this behavior so obviously you and I are doing something different. Maybe you could record a video or be more detailed by giving me the exact steps that you are using to make these changes. For example, how are you changing your dimension defaults? Through the Active Defaults dialog, by double-clicking on the dimension tool, or by going through the Default Settings dialog? I tried using all 3 and I did not get the behavior you described.

I can't think of anything that was changed regarding active defaults or annotation sets to cause them to work differently then X8. You do understand that if you change any of your currently active defaults so that they no longer match what is in your saved annotation set, the toolbar button will automatically change to say "Using Active Defaults" instead of your annotation set? Also, if you modify one of your saved annotation sets to use different defaults, then your currently active defaults will again not match your annotation set and will display "Using Active Defaults". This is normal and correct behavior but can sometimes be confusing for people.

Never seen this before. My only guess is that it is some kind of system or maybe install problem. You could try an uninstall and then reinstall to see if you get different behavior. If that does not help, I would recommend that you contact tech support for more help.

You are still using the beta. You should update to the release version.

You can check "Doorways" in the "Objects to Include" section of the schedule specification dialog. Unfortunately, if you are using X8 and prior, there is no easy way to modify the doorway so that it will show up as a barn door in the door schedule. This is because there is no actual object for the doorway listed in the components dialog. If you are using X9, you can select the doorway and modify the Object Information to control what information appears in the schedule.

2. Manually placed fillers will show up in the cabinet schedule. Automatic ones won't.

Vaughn & Michael, The problems you are experiencing are not typical and are most likely related to your system, probably your video card. X9 is using more advanced rendering technology then X8 did. This makes the rendered views look better and much faster. This is only just a guess. I have no way of knowing anything based on your above posts. The bottom line is that your problems are not going to get solved by posting here. You need to contact technical support and they will work with you to help you solve your problems.

"But none of these options have worked." Either I have misunderstood your problem, you have done something wrong, or you have found a bug that I am not aware of. In any case, you should continue to work with tech support until you get this issue resolved.

I was discussing this issue with the lead developer for the ray trace engine last night. It looks like the problem is that the ray trace will not run if a certain system dll is missing. Apparently, this dll is installed on all of our machines in-house but not for everyone else. We are working on a fix for this. If you need any additional help, please feel free to contact technical support.

You should try it with the actual release version of X9 and if you are still having a problem, then contact technical support.

Just to clarify some of what Brian said... What you are seeing is not a bug. Standard Render views are faster and will look more photo-realistic in X9 then they did in X8. If you don't want a more realistic view, you can turn off some of the improvements we made in X9. Or, maybe you would prefer a more non-photorealistic view by using a render technique such as vector view or technical illustration? "Ambient Occlusion" is giving you the darker shading in the corners. If you turn it down to 0% in your Camera Specification dialog, the view will look more like it did in X8. "Bloom" gives you more of a "glow" around light sources. If you turn off Bloom in the Camera Specification dialog, the lights will look more like they did in X8. As for "blurry lines", you should also check your Hardware Edge Smoothing setting under Render in your Preferences. By default this is probably set to "low" but if you have the "Edge Smoothing when Idle" turned on, you will see the same smoothing that you get when your preference is set to "high" when your view updates. If you have a fairly good video card, you may want to set this to "high" in your preferences. If your video card is not so good, you may only want it to update when you are not doing anything like trying to move the camera around.

As you have already discovered, that article applies to Chief Architect Premier or Interiors, not Home Designer Interiors. As for creating a panel on the back or side of a cabinet in Home Designer, all you need to do is create a normal base cabinet, set it's depth to 3/4", remove the drawer, and then change the "door" into a "door panel" to get the look you want. As for hating "crippleware", there is a simple solution to this problem. You can always upgrade to a product with all of the features that you want. I don't think anyone should expect a $79 consumer product to have the same features as a $1995 professional product.

Some 3D symbol data is cleaned up when the plan is read in, not when it is written out. This means that if you delete a whole bunch of symbols from the plan you will have to save it, open it, and save it again to see it shrink significantly.

The plan you were sent was probably saved in X9. You will not be able to open it and modify it in X8. You could: - upgrade to X9. If you have SSA, this is free. - download the X9 Viewer to view the file. - ask the person who sent it to you if they have an X8 version of the file.

Is it possible that you turned off "Use Enhanced Lighting" in your X9 preferences? You will not get reflections if you have turned this off. The only reason to turn this off is if you are trying to troubleshoot video card problems but you should not leave it off.

X9 does not have a Final View tool anymore. All the Final View tool did was temporarily turn on rendering preferences so that you could work with them normally turned off for faster performance. It was originally put in for Version 7 when rendering performance was the most critical issue. The technology we are using now is so much faster that there is no reason to turn off features just so that you can work in a camera view. Most of the settings that control how the view look are now saved with each camera. You can set them up in your Camera Defaults or change them after the camera has been created in the Camera Specification dialog. This also means that when you open up the camera view again that it should look the same as it did when you last saved it, even on different machines (which was not possible using the Final View tool).

Your picture does not show that you have actually have the reflections turned on in your active camera. It shows that you have the reflections on in your Camera Defaults. Use the Edit Active Camera tool to open the Full Camera Specification dialog box and then verify that you have Reflections turned on. If your camera has reflections turned on but they still don't show, then my best guess is that you are having a problem with your video card or that you have messed up your render preferences somehow. If you still can't solve your problem, I would recommend that you contact tech support.

When you choose "Panel" for your Railing Style, the baluster controls will be disabled but the panel controls will be enabled. All you need to do is change the panel type to cable, not the baluster type.

I apologize for any confusion caused by my earlier post. I would have never guessed that when I said "Flatten Pad in the Terrain Specification dialog" that people would confuse that with "Interior is Flat in the Elevation Region Specification dialog".

Nothing. I opened the plan you posted above and turned off Flatten Pad in the Terrain Specification dialog. My best guess is that you made changes to the plan after you posted it which are causing you more problems.

You might have better luck if you turn off Flatten Pad. Basically you are giving the program conflicting data so it is having problems generating a reasonable model.

I apologize for any inconvenience that this may cause. Supporting these older file formats was limiting our ability to keep Chief moving forward. We have only had to do this once before when we dropped support for pre-version 5 plan files. We are hoping that with the file format improvements that we made back in Version 10 that we won't have to do this again for a much longer period of time.
