I suggest you to contact Shanek. Because you already have an offer from one of the knowlidgable guys here. He has an excellent experience in using chief and a researcher on such things you asked.

Thanks Larry, ShaneK and perry for the kind words. Regarding the finishing of projects, nowa days I have pretty much realized that every thing can be done in chief and it is all about creating accurate models to easily produce plan sets . But I work with AutoCAD guys and mostly they need the DWG file. I will post it after I finish or scan my external drive for one to post. Here is another example of how I use it, RC STRUCTURE. -
It is early stage and all is well so far, hope I am gona complete it with out much difficulties. Thanks again chief.

Reference levels/ Floor & ceiling levels in elevation
yusuf-333 replied to kellytengdahl's topic in General Q & A
Use temporary "cad detail from view" and do your lines up there, since it helps to snap any point you want. Copy those lines and paste it back"hold position" to your elevations. This is one way to do it, but not probably the only way. hopefully others will also tell us an other useful methods.- 15 replies

It seems that my method is not working for you guys. No feed backs though! Hopefully some one who already use this or understands will interpret it for you in your English. For sure this works fine, if you pay head.

Alan you should have to cut a very small width rectangular strip out of the subtracted area to get it work, don't forget using to hold the Shift+C to move concentrically. It is not limited to this but you can enclose any shape polyline to the area you need. I don't think you are missing the selection before the "edit area all floors"See this example the shaded area let's me to select all most any thing except the house, may be some elements falling in or around the thin strip will need to treat as exception.
-
You can do both, depends on which one you want. If you want to move the house only, select exterior of house and make room poly line. As you finish that select the polyline and go to edit tool bar, then select "edit area all floors" command and move it using point to point move. If you need to move the site less the the house, make a big rectangle that encloses all and subtract the room poly line from it. Again follow the same procedure as option one.

Nice solution Rich, understanding what the user wants is difficult some times, I think this is the best interpretation that could much his needs.

"Nitche in Walls" chiefarchitect tip by yusuf
yusuf-333 replied to yusuf-333's topic in Tips & Techniques
OK Joe, showing in plan is one thing you should handle manually here, but with no time you can hide the window nitche and place the exact cad block in plan, and I thing this the only pick, but time savior compared to the time it takes , blocking the hole, the nitche etc.. And unblocking and resizing each component parts of your niches, selection of components is also said to be difficult in your method.Regarding the re use of my one, blinds are very effective tool that moves with window dims, so making the nitche symbol and converting it to symbol, again assigning that symbol as a blind for a path thru window reduces all that pain. Here is one quick example. Thanks joe -

OK thanks Joe, but can't we just use some window components, like window treatments and other facilities like I used in a previous thread on a circular window with curved lites and a dove inside it. And if all the above doesn't solve it, can't I just make a window symbol out of your nitche symbols and place it as we like? Any depth of inset and any thing else set. -

Actually much appreciated your method and it was very nice, but Joe I don't have to prefer my method because it is simply mine! I have to be reasonable while choosing alternatives. So I need you you to justify, why you prefer your method. I would list propose the parameters but not limited to - the procedure complexity/simplicity regarding the components of the nitche symbols and flexibility when it comes to resizing, reshaping, copying/moving - framing issues and the extent it resembles how actually it is built. In general we have both brought some sort of solution to help ourselves and others, both methods may have their weaknesses and strength. And finally it depends on ones desire and preference. And let me say for sure Scott would applaud to my method if I was perry, but now not sure what he will say...just kidding but his silence on this thread made me realize it is near to perfect! Other wise the king of ct would have been the first to reject it. Scott is amazing, me and many others feel disappointed if he doesn't have his say on topics. That is because we respect him and appreciate him for the good works. -

Here is a pictorial presentation including the one, and only poison pick on this method! vector full overview may show exrtra lines, but all others are okay. Though, you can eliminate that lines if it is highly important. -

Oh well, thank you very much Glenn. I was preparing a plan with instructions on it, so that mick would understand it, fortunately glenn would say it much more clearer than me. Thanks again for the help Glenn, and here is also the plan I tried to put explanation on it.Mick thanks for looking at it. nitche plan.zip -
Exporting Floor Plan as Picture in High Quality
yusuf-333 replied to Rosco2017's topic in General Q & A
Try to export it to metafile then open it in Microsoft office picture viewer and export it there to jpeg. It works I hope, though not sure. -
Not perfect, but hopefully it helps.

https://youtu.be/2jPEZgMaj_U A lot of complicated manual roofs can be made simple with the help of cad plines in plan.

Try "movavi" it doesn't necessarily need external mic, it is very nice. I have both but prefer movavihttp://www.movavi.com/screen-capture/?nomobi=1&_ga=1.211160405.172475427.1435899260

As Mick would say, that boat in the pool was the biggest boulder to crush in this model, so ..... Just kidding, nice job Mick man, well done it.
-
The porch get the end ceiling joists but not the rest , an easy fix and the same with Rafters depending on how y you do it it seems. (need to play more?) Mick, actually this not how we build, but I just want to know how it is, I just gave a try and found this things, can this fulfill what you said above?
-
OK curt thank you very much, but what is wrong with the rafters?
-
Am I missing some thing? Is this what is needed, I am afraid I posted the apples... I couldn't open your plans, using x6, I can post the trial plan in x6. If I am not mistaken.

Larry, that is very impressive, keep up the excellent work!!
