  1. I seldom see sill plates any more in Florida. Truss sits on the block bond beam with s galv. plate that comes with the truss. Simpson META16 in the bond beam to anchor the truss.
  2. Well if you are talking inches you might be in the Unites States. You local climate will likely drive the decision as to the wall components. Here in Florida 8" CMU block is common and we use a 1x2 furring system with insulation on between the furring strips. If the Energy Audit (needed for every permit) requires more insulation to pass code a core fill insulation can be added to the cells of the block.
  3. Typically I draw in CAD with layer names that have a floor prefix. FL1_xxxxx Floor One FL2_xxxxx Floor Two P1_xxxx Plumbing floor one FR1_xxxx Framing Floor one If you use a similar method you can stack the CAD file & turn layers On & OFF Or block the floors separately before you import it. If you use one layer name for all floors & place line work for each floor in a different location in model space in CAD you will need to bring each floor in separately. If you do that consider blocking the CAD before or after importing OR import each floor in a separate "CAD Detail" . Then you can create a block, explode the block & manipulate the line work without dealing with the Chief layer sets. Any way you decide I prefer blocking the CAD to make it easier to turn off & on.
  4. And when you set the display to Show Line Weights this is what you see. So none of the previous displays give you any clue as to what the print result will be. Personally I want to see line types as the print all the time but can't without line weights.
  5. Zoom in and the line dash & gap are 7" Zoom out & the gap & dash grow.
  6. I guess that working with static line types & dimension sizes for 20 years has me set in my ways. When I see a line type that doesn't look correct I think I need to fix that. But wait it was the Zoom that was tricking me. When I zoom out the dimension look wonky. I don't need or want that feature but can't turn it off. Yes I will put in a feature request & with a vote of one we'll see how long it takes to implement it. Seriously though there are several other things I would like to see fixed/changed before the line type issue. I realize i am only one voice and other users have learned to use the software "as is" so I have little hope of real change.
  7. I don't want line weights displayed but I do want the line type displayed correctly. Personally I don't like the dynamic dimension size or the dynamic line type display. I just want to know how can I turn this FEATURE OFF?
  8. Thanks but I want a permanent solution. I do not want full time display of line weights but I do want full time display of line type in all views.
  9. This is my setting but the line types still change while zooming in section view.
  10. Some time back I turned off the Dimension Dynamic Scale feature & forgot where that is. But now I want to stop the dynamic scale of line type display in plan & elevations. I prefer the line type display fixed so there are no surprises when printing. Anyone know where that setting is?
  11. Good info Glenn, I'll give it a try tomorrow. Thanks
  12. Got the items deleted, Thanks So you are saying I can put the walls I want hidden on a new layer & turn that layer off? That may be my best option. I wish there was a way to select a wall & DELETE the framing. At this time I don't want the non-bearing wall framing shown. Oh wait, I tried to select a stud & use the Select Similar Tool but it only select the framing within that wall, not the entire floor. At this point I would like to delete ALL wall framing & then select wall I want the framing rebuilt. I should have done this first but I built ALL wall framing.
  13. I have 2 stray objects, see picture. They can not be selected. How do you go about finding out what they are? Framing Question? I want to show in 3D Framing bearing walls only. That is only the framing in those walls, not the sheeting. In other words I do not want to see framing on the interior walls in the 3D framing view. I also would like a Front & Rear elevation showing framing for the carpenters. How do you normally go about this? MacDill RH-Unit Treetop Framing.zip
  14. This is proving to be a real PITA with the lack of editing tools Chief provides for Sections & Elevations. You have no Match Properties tool in elevations. That tool needs a Marque selection option too! This would be soooo easy in Autocad. (Yes David I'm bitching again, sorry but can't help it) I am using the Layer manager and ALL OFF to turn on what I need but even that is short of ideal. With the floor thickness being changed I need to move ALL text up 8" then upper 2/3 of the text up 8" and then the upper 1/3 of the text down 3" to restore my alignment. Thankfully this floor truss height change only happens once in awhile.
  15. Yea I already did that but everything that was not "Associated" with a floor stays where it is at. Text, leaders, material regions, poly solids, lines etc in section & elevation views will need to be moved by hand. Correct?
  16. I have 5 plan files for a 16 unit condo & the truss MFG insist on changing the trusses from 16" deep to 24" deep. It is easy enough to change the floors one by one to the new truss depth but when it comes to the sections & elevation views the 2nd floor is raised by 8", the third & 4th floor is raised by 16". All the elevations dimensions, text, molding (score marks) and material regions are needing to be raised. I also have CAD details and other stuff that need to be raised. The material regions in the bathrooms (tile & mirrors). Is there a better way to create these items so they are tied to the floors and is there an easy way to raise them? Looks like a tedious job to address all the sections & elevations. Thanks for your time. I attached one plan example that I raised the floors only. Look at Section 24 & front elevation for as an example of the items out of place. MacDill RH-Unit A.zip
  17. FYI, I usually use the "Object Eyedropper" to select a room that is correct & then select the room that is not correct. That usually fixes it for me. Note that you have to change the Room Type back if it was different. Note that if you are fighting with the foundation about floor heights it is often easiest to delete the foundation & rebuild it.
  18. Tech support said there is an unexpected behavior & will look into it. David, Sorry if I criticize Chief too much. After using Autocad for too many years I have come to expect a lot from a program aimed at professional users. The homeowner and occasional user will tolerate short comings in the software but it makes me crazy. I'll try to be quiet for awhile.
  19. Shift to the reference floor and do a point to point dimension. Select it, ctrl x move to the other floor ctrl alt v and one of the dimension is where you want it
  20. Just tried similar in another plan & the Text layer was never turned back on. Is the turning off of a layer not considered an "ACTION" by the UNDO command?
  21. In a plan I changed a wall layer to Invisible in the DBX. Drew 2 new walls Then I used the Hide Layer tool to turn off TEXT layer. When I hit UNDO the last wall is removed Hit it again and the other wall is removed. Again the wall layer change is reversed & the TEXT layer is turned back on. Aside for the fact the the UNDO has no feedback information (what the hell is it undoing?) Have any of you experienced this erratic behavior?
  22. Good info guys. When the layout box is big it gets selected when I don't want it selected. But that's probably the best preventative measure. I do run through the sheets before printing but if the layout box was created by Chief it appears OK but there can be more items in the schedule not showing. This will be a housekeeping task I guess. Keeping the layout box larger will help. Thanks
