Nice tip David. Is there a way to Reset to 0,0,0 in Chief? This issue is also a problem in Autocad. They provide a origin reset command so no need to move geometry.

Wouldn't this work? Exchanging Floors Select Build> Floor> Exchange With Floor Above or Exchange With Floor Below to swap the Current Floor with the floor above or below. The floor that was moved becomes the Current Floor at its new location. You can easily move a floor up or down several floors by using either one of these buttons repeatedly.

I usually draw in wood & then submit to Engineer. In Naples the wind forces may require steel but you can do a lot with parallel lambs & structural sheeting on both sides of the wall. -
Use Joey's suggestions & create the girders first. Every other truss should build correctly.

Working on a house with 2 exterior stairs & the room open below is nice but one stair has AC equipment on a platform that I want to show on the 2nd floor as well as the first but that is not visible in the open below room. This seems like odd behavior. Did I miss a setting?

Scratch that it is working as you said. Not sure how I got off track.

Yes but NEW windows placed in the plan did not use the "Specify Label" they still use "Automatic label" I was looking at Eric's routine as the only way to get feet & inches.
-
So I changed the Window Default to "Specify Label" and added this: %automatic_description% Top @ %height% But the new windows in plan view default to "Automatic label" is this normal behavior? I would also like %height% to be Feet - Inches, do I need a user macro to do that?

Exterior door swing & landings
ACADuser replied to JJohnson's topic in Building Codes and Compliance
New codes Old house. I would talk to the building inspector to see if they would indeed require the landing. If so I would install a PT wood landing & remove it later if you like. -

How would I visually represent these walls?
ACADuser replied to AlmiraDesign's topic in General Q & A
If you want the chase to be open, make the room type "OPEN TO BELOW" Also you may want a copy of the wall type for a new one-sided wall & delete the inner drywall. This way the chase is closer to real-world conditions. -
You can fake the edge by using a nearly flat circular p-solid.

I can select each one at a time to create a group of them but you can not rename them as a group.
-
Match Properties is not available for symbols, I think, so I was selecting one & using "Select Similar" which captured too many other objects. I did a workaround by adding one to the catalog, renaming it & then swap all on the floor.
-
I have a lot of furniture in this building & I decided to rename one symbol type. There are 21 or more of these identical items & I wanted to group select all of them which I can not seem to do automatically. And I wanted to add a prefix to the name of all 21 of them in one operation. Am I missing a method? or are symbols not fully supported like blocks?

As Chop alluded to, In Autocad export to a 3ds or dae file & then Import to Chief.

Before you delete the thread make sure you get those links from David's post. They will be critical for your early days with Chief. Pay close attention to the Walls MAIN layer vs exterior layer. The "Wall Settings" within the wall DBX is likely ok as is but pay attention there too. The way walls butt together vertically & horizontally is important for 3D display. Welcome to the club.

Accessory Structure Question
ACADuser replied to Joe_Carrick's topic in Building Codes and Compliance
Commercial? I'll bet emergency lighting may be required. -
I use the left-hand rule. Mentally place your left hand on the starting electrical object. Point your thumb at yourself. The arc will follow the directions of your fingers.

You can update the core catalog. You can export the previous version user catalog & import it into the new one. For the others: [Back up your data if you try this I have copied the contents of the folders (see below) & pasted them into the new version. [Back up your data] Restart Chief.

Here you go, but will still need some TLC. Electrical-4.zip
