  1. Hello Folks...long time no talk. Been BUUUUUUSY around here! We've done close to 250 plans already this year... Anyways, I'm wondering if anyone knows about this trainer coming up in Coeur d'Alene (Aug 31 - Sep 1)?... I'm curious if it's going to be a meeting of the minds (Scott, Joe, Glenn, etc...) and hammer out some great issues, or is it just going to be like how the UGM was? I'd like to go, but I don't want to spend the time and money if we're going to be talking about how to add colors to the color palette. Any help from users or CA would be great... Also...who plans to attend?
  2. Hey Jintu, I have not tried it. I've seen a lot of sweet looking stuff on the Thea forum though. Unfortunately I don't do a lot of these things, and so paying to get it probably isn't worth it for me.
  3. My latest... Modelled in Chief, Rendered in Thea inside Sketchup. Quick and dirty for the contractor...
  4. Hey Barrett, I use Thea...I sent you a PM with my email...feel free and contact me there.
  5. On a side note, if you have a polyline solid with an arc in it, you can select the arc, open the solid go to "Selected Arc", and deselect "Automatic Facet Angle" and select whatever angle you wish to make the arc appear smooth. See Attached...
  6. Weird...now it's working.
  7. Just wondering if anyone is having any luck getting ahold of Chief today?... Have a question for Tech Support and no dice... I tried about every number I found on their website and my Digital Locker. They all say that Chief is unavailable.
  8. I'm curious if anyone else has noticed the first line offset goes from the center of the wall rather than from the outside of the main layer?... Or is there something I'm missing here? Is there any way to change it?...I want my first line 24" from the outside of the main layer, and then every line after that 12". The number I'm showing (see attachment) works for a 2x6 wall with 7/16OSB on the outside, but is off on the concrete foundation.
  9. Ahhh...there it is. I couldn't remember if that was it or not. I suppose I could have just tried it.
  10. Keep in mind that your 2D plan symbol won't stretch the same as the 3D symbol... Your 2D symbol might look terrible, but the 3D symbol will look good. See attached...
  11. Have you tried to let it cook for longer?... 16 passes, especially with photon mapping and a lot of specular materials might not be long enough...
  12. John_B, Personally I like the roof over the house of Craig's better...you don't end up with the goofy looking 2' ridge. I do agree with you though on the roof over the garage, though. Back on topic though, the 3 biggest things I've found with quality renderings is: High quality model. Great lighting. Accurate materials/textures. Any high end render you look at has those three basic things. Yeah there are other things that go into it too, but if you start with those you'll turn out some nice looking pictures. Here are some samples: http://www.chaosgroup.com/en/2/details.html?catID=8&p=89 http://www.chaosgroup.com/en/2/details.html?catID=8&p=95 http://www.chaosgroup.com/en/2/details.html?catID=8&p=98 https://corona-renderer.com/homepage/wp-content/uploads/2014/11/Villa-Savoye-by-Thierry-Schlegel.jpg https://corona-renderer.com/homepage/wp-content/uploads/2014/11/The-Stealth-Barn-by-Mark-Staddon-4.jpg https://www.thearender.com/site/index.php/gallery/exterior-architecture.html?thumb_limitstart=12#!Tropical_Huts_ https://www.thearender.com/site/index.php/gallery/exterior-architecture.html?thumb_limitstart=24#!A_little_house___Created_by_mr_jo
  13. Or go to the View tab and make sure "Toolbars" is selected.
  14. Since most rendering softwares utilize CPU only...the faster/more cores the better. Also something to consider is that the architecture of the CPU has changed in 4 1/2 years. So a 3.4 GHz i7 now will be faster than your 4 1/2 year old 3.4 GHz i7.
  15. I would say that you need to find a texture that has the "metal look", apply it to your drapes and then just a some reflective/specular to that material.
  16. Hey Justin, Looking good!... The only thing I would say is turn your AO settings down a bit.
  17. Hey Sunny, I've got all this if you want it (and yes...the key is there ) Not sure what shipping would cost, though. I have some X1 floating around too, couldn't find the one key though. I'll do some digging if you're interested.
  18. And the window cuts through the region, so there's no need to make "holes"... See attached.
  19. You would do a material region on the whole wall...
  20. See Attached... In step 3, I manually changed it to say .csv.
  21. Can't you use material regions for the different finishes?... You could use one wall type and make the materials different thicknesses. See attached...
  22. I use Thea, and I don't know if I would say it help sell more, but they definitely notice a difference. I did a few renders for a contractor of ours, and shortly after I was approached by another one asking why we don't do those really high quality pictures for them too! So...needless to say it gets noticed.
  23. Wow Warren...this is looking good. I'm jealous!
  24. Yeah...definitely something on your machine. See attached...
