I drew the original shape in plan view but as it would be constructed from the top at a width of 1 1/2" or whatever the depth of the truss chords are- Then I took an elevation view of that 3d solid a brought in a CAD detail of the truss shape you were after and used it to modify from that perspective.

Could use a bit more information to really try and help
-
Thanks Eric- I don't think was in tight enough to grab the hole - all good.
-
Tab to try and move from selecting the solid to the hole? Just tried it and it reacts similar to the next command- does not recognize the hole.
-
Probably a basic function but I have run a few searches and not seeing anything that addressed my particular need here. I am working with 3d solids to create a metal base shoe for a beam stair stringer. As I insert holes into the solid, I find myself needing to adjust their size- location - etc..... I can select the 3d solid of course, but can't select the hole itself? any suggestions are appreciated.

My apologies if I didn't understand the OP request - I have designed bult several small commercial projects that have utilized canvas wall systems to enclose cover patio seating. And as for my knowledge of construction being "shallow".......... After 30+ years in the industry I know enough to realize that I will never know it all - and a can learn something new every day if I am willing to keep my eyes and mid open.
-
Use walls to create room under the stairs and set the ceiling heigh to match bottom of landing framing?
-
Are you refereeing to a canvas or similar material- that may be see through? Maybe used to enclose a covered patio type area?

Thank you all for the feedback- Chris- the tip for ctrl key - that helps for sure.

Late to the party in regards to X15 upgrade but here I am. Jumped from X13 -X15 so if this was something that was a change in X14 forgive me. One thing I am noticing is a difference in some sizing and movement as I scroll in and out. For instance, as I move walls Recording 2024-02-24 110006.mp4 I need to scroll -zoom in fairly close to make smaller jumps - if I am zoomed out very far at all the jump is larger than I prefer. see attached video.

Thanks all- At this point I think the issue with the drawing I am trying to work with is that is in Raster format. Is there a way to convert Raster to Vector so it then could be converted to DWG or some other format that can be edited in CA?

PDF backdrop image showing through CA items in layout
RL-inc replied to RL-inc's topic in General Q & A
Thanks Jason- I did give masking boxes a try, but only halfheartedly- I will take another run at it with an eye to your notes above and see if I get anywhere. much appreciated. -
Thanks Greg- in looked at Inksacape but don't see any options to convert to DWG mostly SVG

PDF backdrop image showing through CA items in layout
RL-inc replied to RL-inc's topic in General Q & A
Thanks Jason- The issue is the pdf view is showing through the CA items once it is sent to layout - In .plan with color toggled off the roof still blocks out the pdf line behind- which is te desired view in Layout -
Just a quick follow up- is the Autodwg desktop download considered the best route to go for stable and quick conversions? looks like 130.00 buys a lifetime license.

PDF backdrop image showing through CA items in layout
RL-inc replied to RL-inc's topic in General Q & A
If you look at the Layout image you can see that the roof just to the right of the chimney is showing behind the new roof plane- The dim out by the post as well. -
Good day- and long time no post- I am trying to create a simple drawing set for a small exterior roof addition to an existing home. Based on the ARC requirements, a plan view and a couple elevations are really all I need. The owner provided the basic PDF files of the elevations pages, and I have been able to create the 2 views I need- side and straight on. The issue is when I send to Layout, the PDF background is showing through the new components - which is not the case in the elevation view in the plan file. Any comments are appreciated. Here is plan file view- and here is the way it appears in Layout

Thanks Ryan- Just what I was looking for- different direction than I was headed with the pantry. I'll play with it and post whatever I come up with. much appreciated .

I have been banging away on trying to come up with a new kitchen design for a remodel project and this one has me over a barrel. In the attached screenshot I have clouded the area I have to work with - all existing walls that need to go have been removed and I have left the bearing walls and point loads that need to stay. I want to get a kitchen with a pantry that will be open to the dining area and capture the views. I also need a powder bath and / or bath 2 for bed 2- can be one or 2 rooms depending. If anyone is interested at taking a swing at it, I am not hoping for a full design by any means- just a general layout idea that may kick me in a different direction than where I keep stonewalling at. (I have pics of existing I can share but don't want to create any undue influence - I think that is a major issue I am having.) Thanks Michael- that did the trick.

That is correct Chop- I assumed that since the PDF I received from them displayed the room sizes in feet and inches the model would be the same - Does the obj file only recognize metrics? If so do i need to change my preferences in CA to match? 0_2734-nw-three-sisters-dr-bend_1.pdf

Quick question regarding importing an OBJ file from matterpak. When I import it comes in about 24"x12"x6". I assume that I am doing something wrong during the import process- but maybe the model is not sized correctly?

Sometimes the simplest answer is the best answer-

I am trying to create a line style with longer segments for larger scale property lines. Maybe 6" solid segment followed by a 1" space - 1" line - 1" space- 6" line - etc..... 2" is as long as i seem to be able to expand to in the line spec dialog box. Any ideas are appreciated

I had issues with this and posted extensively- Never fully resolve the issue - just happened again last week-but less frequently than before. Only in X12 - X 13 I keep my preferred toolbar configuration set as RL Preferred -and a backup of the same thing in my toolbars and when it corrupts I restart- switch to backup- remove corrupt toolbar - make new backup copy. Kind of a PITA but it works. Seems like CA should figure it out for X14 - Evan if a dual monitor issue - which i have and set identically - I never had any issues prior to X12.
