  1. I just think it's all in the execution...I doubt there is any issue with the software. I drew a rafter tail is section...made the polyline match the roof pitch. Drew the tail design. Then, copied and rotated it so it was "level"...no longer at an 8/12 pitch. Saved the tail design as a molding into the library. I then selected this tail in the roof DBX and changed a few setting so that the fascia was plumb and attached a gutter.
  2. This view (see picture) was created by using the 3D Floor Overview camera, then selecting 3D/View Direction/Top View; Then I used the cross section slider to cut down into the view...then I applied the "line drawing" technique. Yes...placing room labels and sizes...and dimensions gets a little complicated. I added text to this screen shot using Snagit...so, that's a possibilty.
  3. Just Create a new Annotation Set and Layerset...it's that simple. Layersets control what is displayed...Annotation Sets control the color, size, font, of all text objects.
  4. I think the problem is in the way you drew the rafter tail molding profile. See the attached pics. I modified the front edge of your "rafter tail" design...made it vertical and aligned the top and bottom edges so they finished in the same plane...applied it to your roof...reframed. All looks good.
  5. Thanks Mick...I thought so...but, wanted to make sure I wasn't losing my mind!
  6. Am I missing something? When I build roof framing I can specify the size of "lookouts"...are these "soffit" lookouts...or just gable end lookouts? I gather it's just for gable end support...if that is the case, do we have to manually draw in the 2x lookouts for soffits? If so, c'mon Chief...fix this.
  7. I did a video on rafter tails sometime ago...maybe it’ll get you started.
  8. A “REF SET” is nothing more than a layerset. You can copy the current default “REF SET” and name the new set anything...if you will be using it as a ref set I’d start the name with this...something like “Ref Set - New Set”. “New set” being what you will be using it for. Then open this set and turn on/off the layers you want and change the color, line style and weight accordingly.
  9. Well...on 2nd thought, why not just change the glass material to a screen material. In Standard View you can't tell...in Vector View you get the screen. See pics attached...
  10. Is this what your are trying to accomplish? Screens in the "shaped" windows. See example attached. If so...take a close up back clipped section elevation view...send that to a "Cad Detail from View"....change/lock all the layers sent to that view. Then...use polylines and trace the window opening...copy this polyline and use paste/hold position and paste it into your elevation view. Then...convert the polyline into a p-solid, make it about 1/8" thick or so - then paint this solid with a "screen material".
  11. Fantastic...great work as always Rene. Thank you!
  12. Why not...hotkeys improve productivity like nothing else in Chief. Enjoy!
  13. Ummm...don't think it's a work around. Just have to use the tools to edit the cabinet. Personally, I'd use a moulding line (or polyline) to build the shelves....much faster, same result. You can use p-solids for vertical support posts. Probably construct what you want in half the time.
  14. My plan is attached if you'd want to see what I've done... Cabinets for Shelving.plan
  15. I don't get the cabinets to join together unless I set the "Box Construction" "Separation" to zero...I also have to set the "stiles" to zero So...what am I doing wrong? Pic of cabinet where the separation is 1.5"....I get a gap between cabinets
  16. I used two full height cabinets pushed together. Then...I went to cabinet defaults and unchecked "create automatic blind corner cabinets". I also adjusted the shelf thickness and spacing. And...I used "framed" style cabinet and set the separation to zero...
  17. Might want to make sure you have this box checked also...
  18. Chief has a number of videos...but this is a good place to start. https://www.chiefarchitect.com/videos/watch/343/framing-a-roof.html?playlist=146 Not really sure what you mean by "birds mouth" cut at the rafter tail? Something like this pic?
  19. Yep - sometimes you just have to get things close and move on. We’ve all been there!
  20. Your post got me thinking...so, I did a video. Maybe it'll help a bit...
  21. When you click on the cad line (in the cad detail from view)...you are "selecting". No need for two steps...right? Well...you do need to "shift" click to get both lines... I guess I was assuming that the OP new how to select lines...
