Thanks for your input. It seems crazy that it is looking for a textures that was used back with version 10 that of course is no longer there. Thanks
-
I thought about doing something like that. It does give to an option to replace the texture but there are 100's on the list. It does give the option to delete. Too bad you cant select all and change

A follow up on the missing files... I just noticed the File Path and it is from X1, X2, X3, X4 versions that I haven't had on my PC in years. I dont know why its still looking for the files during the export and Im not sure how to fix it. Attached is a screen shot. Maybe someone has an idea. Thanks

For fire safety and hood should extend 3" past the edge of the cooking surface so there will not be combustible materials (fillers) over the heat source. For a 36" cooktop (especially gas) we will install a 42" hood. 39" at a bare minimum. However with a MW your catch 22

I just threw one to you. I've been there also. I love the site because as with anything in most cases there are several ways to do anything on CA and everyone has there own way and opinion. The past two years my wife has gone thru breast cancer and I have probably take more from here than given and had rocks thrown at me a time or two. Again, Ive been there But life does happen at times.

I am having issues when exporting my user library so I can share with my laptop. When I export I get a box showing a whole list of missing files. (100+) Most I have no idea what symbols they may go to. Several are .jpg files. Some so missing but when I do a manual search I have found a few such as a Caeserstone material. Several of the same exact missing file name It seems one of the issues may be??? When I have imported symbols from 3D Warehouse several materials are not imported and not sure the best way to resolve this so not to have all the "unnamed" materials or material names that cant be located with a library search. I have attached a few examples of symbols with this issue. I have found that alot of the appliances that I have imported have missing materials when I open the symbol. I have never had this issue before BUT until X-8 we have never had the option to export the entire library at once. Thanks for any help

Than mks. I totally understand the CPU and graphics card usage. I was mainly asking if anyone had ever used the 940MX

I am giving my ASUS laptop to one of our design interns to use this semester. It's about three years old and I only really use it to go to clients home and present designs. Even though its slower than my desktop it does what it need to do. So Im going to go buy a new laptop to serve the same purpose. Best Buy has an ASUS with an i7, 12GB RAM, GeForce 940MX (2GB). I was also looking at a Dell thats almost identical i7 but the graphics card is the GTX 960M (4GB) and it has 8GB RAM. Both of these are in the $900 range Does anyone use this laptop or at least the 940MX card? Again will not be my primary machine

I think I read somewhere that CA should not be used on a server or connected over a network. Maybe I'm mistaken or meant not to load the actual program there . However, would using , placing the data file folder, user library (not the program) into Dropbox, any other "online" service or a NAS drive be verging on that? Would be intrested to hear if Dan had any input.

Well, After making an X8 data file back up I thought I would try something. I copied the User_Library folder out of the X-7 Database Libraries then copied it to the X-8 folder. I completely replaced the X-8 folder with the X-7. I opened X-8 and all my X-7 user libs were there and I didnt get any error messages. Maybe it will work?
-
Inside the X7 library id I right click on "User Catalog" it does not give an option to export. If I go into the user lib showing all the folders inside it I can right click and export but I have about 80 folders and dont want to export each individually
-
It seems I can only export one folder at a time inside the user lib. is there a way to export the entire user lib at once
-
is there a decent way to copy the entire user library from X7 to X8

I had just asked this same question in another thread. However, I was wondering if it would work the same as Carbonite. It too is an instant backup to their server and not making a copy to your PC drive somewhere. it also keeps several ( I think up to ten) system mirror images.
-
I wonder if the same would work with Carbonite

Thanks for the input. We have a business Dropbox account we use. You would set the Data Folder to a DB folder and point all machines to it?

I have both X-7 & X-8 on two PC's and two laptops. However, I am just getting around to start using X-8... (Wife with breast cancer treatment / surgery... So I'm a bit behind but have been around since 8.0) How have people found to best keep the data files (mainly the user library) consistent between the different computers? I have X7 & X8 on my desktop PC, I have another PC with X7 & X8 that my designer uses and then the laptops are used to take to clients homes for review. In the past, with the program closed Ive just copied the "Chief Architect Premier X7 or X8 Data" folder in my docs, copied to a flash drive then replaced that same folder on the other devises as mine is the most used, most up to date due to me adding textures / symbols / SKP / etc. all the time. This seemed to work but in the process, I will lose some texture files such as tile, wood, countertops, etc. Also whats the best route to copy the user library in X-7 to X-8 as my most complete user library in in X7. I did search the forum but did not find a thread on this exact subject. Thank you very much

I've had this same issue for a while also. Someone told me and has seemed to work most of the time. (Don't know why) Open a full (tall) cabinet DBX and simply close it without making any changes. It also seems to work when a wall cabinet or soffit is deleted but it may leave the crown molding in place.

Im having the same issue. I have changed my railing / balusters to cable but they insert themselves perpendicular to the rail versus in line. I think Im lost
-
Thanks David. I ended up adding a curved exterior wall with the same dimensions and dropped in windows as in a straight wall. Had to manually add the dropped ceiling over it using a soffit. Its been a pain since 8.0. Maybe in X-142 it will be addressed. Thanks

Ive seem to always have issues with bow window editing. I place the bow into the wall then in camera view select the unit then adjust the width, depth and how many windows make up the bow. I can never get the windows to size correctly or to connect without any framing between the windows. I have "No Framing Between Components" checked. When I tab to select a single window, I can adjust the window type, casings, heights, etc. but the width will not change. The actual windows are 21" wide but the max width it will allow is 10". I even tried to change the framing defaults with no luck. It shouldn't be that hard to do as these types of single bow window units are common. Any ideas? thanks
