  1. Lew, you live in New York. Pizza Hut? You realize that nothing you say is credible from this point forward.
  2. I am a fan of CA and find it an amazing tool for residential. Where you need to evaluate is on your interactivity between users. This software is geared more to a solo operator. I know there are offices that use is for production with multiple seats but it is lacking any file referencing. If your projects tend to be done by individiuals, then it will work great. If you are thinking about having two people interact on the same plan, it could be messy. My Layout sheets are fed by several plan files, existing, proposed, details and sometimes another in rare instances or the end of the project and I need to crank something out fast for a deadline. With this in mind, in a pinch, you could have multiple people working simultaneously once the plan is locked down but would not be a great practice.
  3. Great. Sounds like it could be short enough for me to pick up the donuts for the soccer team. The little rug rats beat us last time and I want every advantage possible (including sugar induced mania).
  4. What? Hook me up man. What is the workshop on? alan@lehmandesignstudio.mumble
  5. Rich, if you sat down at your keyboard at 11pm. not matter what time you left your desk you only worked about 48 minutes.
  6. Here is a link to a very nice guide by a great builder. Really great of them to share this info for the building community. http://hammerandhand.com/best-practices/manual/
  7. That's what you get for living in wine country. Here we get 20 lashes.
  8. I am trying to do what I said above but I am not sure this is workable. Possibly the best solution is to change the layer on the item and use that for copy and paste in the plan.
  9. You will probably need to save outlets to the library with the layer assignment that you desire and then grab from there to place your electrical items. If I remember correctly you may need to group some items and save the group to the library or the electrical items will default back to the electrical layer. Maybe...
  10. @JJohnson, that form was written in 2012. Does it still apply after the 2013 code adoption?
  11. Check out the latest addition to the downloads library for new shower wall and door hinge components. New faucets as well.
  12. Not in California. Unless you consider the golf team.
  13. Without trees over the roof I think that gutter would get flushed out about every 4 hours in your neighborhood. (I lived in Seattle for 9 years, worked on my own and for Buffalo Design)
  14. It depends on if you want to pay someone for this task. If you have budget for this go to this website and post it as a job http://www.creativecrash.com/# This is a pretty simple script although you will probably want to provide several trees for the distribution so they don't have to code an actual tree. There are other websites that specialize in freelancers for film and modeling projects of this sort. It may be as easy as taking your distributed path of trees with the slight rotation into a proper 3d modeling package and just putting a modifier box around the group to stretch asymmetrically in Z at one end. I suspect you could do this in Sketchup but I am not very familiar with the program. I do know you could do this stretch easily in Maya or Max.
  15. I needed to open up the image in Photoshop and zoom in but there is clearly a chain drain at the back of the house. They must have a concealed gutter continuous on each side. I suspect there is a second chain drain on the other side in the back.
  16. First, thank you very much Tommy for making the effort to put this out for us. Second, Uhhhhh, I will knock the way Yusuf is proposing to show the volute and handrail. That is a tripping hazard and if my building inspector saw that he would punch me in the face with my own fist.
  17. What command are you using when copying and pasting? Hot key? If hot key, try directly from the pull down menu.
  18. More importantly, is that a wicked cool looking floating analog clock?
  19. Post some images. Post your plan file which will contain the settings you are using. You have provided very few clues.
  20. Are you using the dimensions to change the placement of the wall? If so, you must do this in one direction. Find a starting point and move away from there.
  21. Have you tried aligning things with the make parallel tool? Post that plan as that seems very odd if they are parallel.
  22. If i remember correctly you can only edit roof planes in v10 from the plan view. Make your plan view look like the attached image by breaking the roof plane where it is circled and then stretch it up along the direction of the arrow. How to get the correct height in that ancient software is a mystery to me. I did use v10 when I first bought the program but only for a few weeks as X1 was just being released.
  23. Use an invisible wall to divide the room in order to make the distinct ceiling planes
