What I'm doing wrong? (Rope lighting, GPU raytrace)
Renerabbitt replied to KirillP's topic in General Q & A
Simply put, this is how the spot light was designed. Keeping in mind that this software is a multi renderer unlike a dedicated rendering plugin, lighting has to look good in standard as well as CPU ray trace and again this is a single path trace. I can’t tell you exactly why it was designed this way but I have a good idea. If you turn off all lights, ambient light with some good materials makes for a great rendering.. so I imagine the point light is simply to fake a beam spread similar to an IES profile. Try this for instance, set your lights color to red and see how it affects the room… then switch to a point light. -
Could instead use a window and draw a roof at the rise angle and use match shape

Streamyard doesn’t require a software download on the clients end, has a private chat, banners, and not that you asked, but it can stream to multiple social platforms at once if you ever have the need. Can also host webinars

Or maybe it doesn’t, no offense to chief, but sometimes they get it wrong. If you’ve saved materials to your library that used the pattern generator tool then you’re trying to load 1000’s of vector lines. try removing the user library from your data folder while chief is shut down and then open chief again. It will generate a new library.. is it still slow? Also use the OOTB residential template that is in your program data folder. Chief previews library items based on your template.. is it still slow then?

Network Access Storage like Synology..you essentially create a cloud service with your own physical hardware

I will still be using my system. its bulletproof. Though I will distribute my shop items through their access system

What I'm doing wrong? (Rope lighting, GPU raytrace)

You've touched on some crucial points about the intricacies of real-time ray tracing engines, but we are dealing with single path trace environments. Absolutely, better contrast in evenly lit scenes is achievable, but it does require tweaking the exposure settings. This is where Ambient Occlusion (AO) maps become vital. They help in maintaining the right black levels in unlit and occluded areas. The complexity increases with single path tracing, particularly when integrating specific lighting types like under counter lights. These are designed for low light projection and we'rent designed to be used as soffit lighting. OOTB 4-inch intervals can create challenges due to overlapping light data. The engine, having to choose a single light source, can indeed result in unrealistic overhead lighting effects. The better approach would be to revert back to point lights and make a light shield for uniform lighting. You could try to switch emitters to 24 inches apart makes sense for a more accurate representation. Adjusting the drop-off rate to 1 or 1.5 for a 170-degree cut, coupled with an rope lights with a 60-degree cut-off and a drop-off rate of 4, seems like a sound approach. From there, fine-tuning lumens and exposure will be key. Still think point light with a shield is a better option Understanding the behavior of single light traces is critical. They recognize lit surfaces but not the specific light source, leading to the engine picking an emitter based on its algorithm. For more precise lighting, transitioning to a CPU ray trace or another rendering engine might be necessary, as single light traces typically employ a Monte Carlo method which can be limited in these scenarios. -
Its been a priority update for years..but they can't infringe on copyrights for other cloud based systems and they had to build a server setup...takes years..the preview was looking pretty good

Too many sync issues, too many file locking issues, redundency checks, conflicted copies, etc. Dropbox is worlds apart...and I am a G-Suite guy

I've gone through a 1000 setups. I am a very very advanced cloud user. Either a NAS or Dropbox...onedrive/google drive are crap. Don't try and setup a single sync data folder..It's a logistical nightmare. Every approach will be a process...nothing will ever simply be seemless until chief updates with their cloud Project Managements thats been in development for 3+ years 1 method..my preferred method for teams other than my own: Share a dropbox folder do NOT rename the plan files rename the folders containing plan and layout to track your versioning copy paste an entire version folder and rename folder for next iteration of the project's design export all material files for the project into your version folders Thats it, easy peasy. Cons: File Bloat..archive it and offline revious versions(selective sync)

simple-ish..takes 10-30 minutes

a lot more goes into it..turn auto build roofs and foundations off, roof overhang settings, floor to floor defaults, cabinet defaults, material defaults...etc

What would you like to see in the stair tool?

The rift is very old tech. the meta quest 3 is out. I would go with that.

Probably different encoder settings, one more gpu intensive, what sample rate are you running in chief?
-
What is your sample rate at? What are your encoder settings for the recording software?

some design inspo there

pass-through window with tambour door

You could also create a custom window if you want more of the louvered pantry look: Can be complicated to create though -
You could also just place the individual letters and rotate around a point using the corresponding edit mode

Hey Neighbor! If you have your dimensions defaults setup really well it should be no issue to bring a dimension string through while zoomed. You could take a look at your reach settings there as well as some other settings. Yes click and drag..I would HIGHLY recommend picking up the spacemouse pro wireless, as this no longer becomes an issue...thats a left hand mouse to go along with your right hand mouse and makes navigating in 3d and 2d a breeze. BTW you could draw a continuous line and this would give you a point to point placement on everything past the initial line segment.

@Dermotchief content over here calling you out on stairs , hehe
