Component Code - do you use ?

Recommended Posts

Architectural Objects (Doors, Windows, Walls, Appliances, Fixtures, Furniture, etc) all have a Component List and one of the fields is "Code".

This field can be edited and displayed in the Schedule (if there is one) as well as in user macros.

Do you use the Component Code?

If yes, what do you use it for?

Can you think of a logical use?

No, I really don't know what the component code is for, and never use it,

Logical use? Product numbers or SKUs maybe.

Only thing I have personally ever used it for is to create extra usable data fields for customized schedules.

I use it for model numbers.

Do you display those in the Plan (Labels) or just in the Schedule(s) ?

Just in schedules. Plan notation is W# in a hexagon

I use it to bring odd bits of information into the label, as it is the only column in the component dialog box that can be accessed with a macro, and displayed in the label.

I've always wondered while this is the only column accessible by macro.

Me too. ;):(

I also wonder why the Manufacturer's Catalogs don't have the Model Numbers already in that field.
