PitMan71 Posted yesterday at 02:53 PM Share Posted yesterday at 02:53 PM Is there a video somewhere that explains how to use the new built-in Room Label tool? It appears that under Room Label Defaults > Specify Label, you can add the information you want displayed, such as ceiling height. However, none of the additional information I add there seems to show up in the automatic room labels on the plan. I’m only getting the room name and dimensions, similar to earlier versions. I’m wondering if there’s another setting somewhere overriding the Room Label Defaults that I’m missing. Also, the automatic room label now seems to come on automatically when defining a room, which I don’t remember happening in X17 or X16. If you prefer using your own Rich Text room labels, this actually adds a step to the workflow because you have to suppress the automatic label each time. That wouldn’t really be an issue if I could get the new automatic labels configured to display exactly what I want. Has anyone figured out how to make this work? Joe_Carrick Posted yesterday at 03:00 PM Share Posted yesterday at 03:00 PM (edited) Shane, Take a good look at the room defaults. There's a lot of capability there for customization. Personally I'm suppressing the automatic label in plan views and using my RTB labels which I've stored in my user library for plan views. I'm only using the X18 automatic label in cross sections. DRAWZILLA Posted yesterday at 03:16 PM Share Posted yesterday at 03:16 PM (edited) I am also wondering why, when I remove the ceiling in a room, it still says 97" ceiling in the label and not n/a like it used to using chief's built in labels. So one of my rooms (Storage) randomly decided to adopt the additional items i added in the label. Digging into it the label was not set to automatic for that room, and the info I had added in the room label under "specify label" in defaults was added in the "specify label" in the room as if i had added it there manually which i didn't. After looking into I cant reverse engineer what happened. #RabbitHole

DRAWZILLA
I'm pretty sure it's one that \Chief provides in their macros that come with the program using their label system.

So you should check the room structure elevations. It might be the floor & ceiling structure and finish settings. I don't know if Chief made any changes in the calculations (rounding, etc.) Maybe they just fixed something that was being calculated incorrectly.
PitMan71
Seems like its not a slam dunk answer. I will post plan so you guys can have a look. Some clarity, I am more concerned about the fact that what have shown as the default room label is not what is being displayed. Seems that its just displaying room name and interior dimensions like it did before instead of what i have included in the room label defaults. I intend to polish what i want included since i am just testing at this point. in fact, right now I have "TEST TEST TEST" in there to make it easy to see it when it works as i thought it would. Thanks in advance. Maybe you all will see something that i dont. 260032-29.zip
Joe_Carrick
Shane, The defaults will only be presented for new room labels. IOW, existing plans will show what it was, not what you change the defaut to. For existing rooms you will need to select all of them and specify the label items you want. Unfortunately things like %room.height.ceiling% and "TEST TEST TEST" will all be at the same size as the %room.name%. So RTB's are still better. Shane, I see the problem in your original post using your attached plan. After some experimentation with a new Residential Template plan, when you specify a custom label using Specify Label under Room Label Defaults at the START of a new plan, all rooms will adopt that label. Any new rooms, even new rooms created by adding a wall to split a room into two rooms will also adopt that default. However, if you change the default settings, it doesn't affect the existing rooms. Once the room is created it will retain the default settings assigned at that time. You would need to go into each room and change its custom label. However, if you change the default settings and create a new building, those rooms will adopt the new settings, and retain them until they are changed in the Room Specification dialog. See the attached image from your plan file. I think this feature was, as most big changes seem to be, taken out of the oven while only half-baked. IMO the program should automatically update all room labels that use the default settings if those settings are changed. Also, there should be a way to specify whether a default room type uses the default label settings or not, or uses different default settings. This could be accomplished by adding the label settings to the already existing room default's Label panel, along with checkboxes to either use the global room label defaults, the specific room's label defaults, or the automatic label. I have an ongoing discussion with tech support regarding the changes to the room label, and will add this issue to that thread.

Thanks for the reply. Later yesterday after posting i got to thinking that this might be the case. I guess i am so used to most things referring back to the defaults that I imagined that to the be the case here. Seems like this feature is not to that point yet. 1 hour ago, Chrisb222 said: I have an ongoing discussion with tech support regarding the changes to the room label, and will add this issue to that thread.
