Ed_Orum Posted yesterday at 02:30 PM Share Posted yesterday at 02:30 PM Good morning. The object is to have 2x10 floor joists on the first floor. If I go to Default Settings, then Framing Member Defaults Management, I set the joist width @ 1.5" and the joist depth @ 9.25". Then, in the Build, Framing, Automatic Framing Defaults I set the joist width @ 1.5" and the joist depth @ 9.25" But The automatic framing sets the joists at 3" x 9.25". So which mystery setting did I miss when trying to set the joist size? (and why are there multiple location in which to set the joist size?) Thanks in advance, Lane

Either rebuild framing manually or have Automatically Rebuild Framing checked.
Ed_Orum Posted yesterday at 03:46 PM Author Share Posted yesterday at 03:46 PM I had that checked correctly. Maybe just another glitch with my program. Manual Framing. At this rate, my old paper and pencil drafting might be faster. Lane
DRAWZILLA Posted yesterday at 04:13 PM Share Posted yesterday at 04:13 PM Maby try the framing defaults dbx section.
Ed_Orum
I tried that too. I suppose that is why there is an option for manual framing!

Where do you see those settings within the Framing Member Defaults Management dialog? That dialog is primary used for setting the values within the framing defaults themselves. Framing defaults don't have the size fields, as the width & depth are usually defined with specific framing members, alongside which default that member will utilize. The joist width and depth within the Automatic Framing Defaults is the proper spot to define the default value for these fields, but will only be used if the rooms are set to use the default values. Check the room's Floor Structure to see if they're set to Use Default. If you don't want them to use the default values, then you'll have to make the changes within the floor structure layers of the room itself. Below is a screenshot of the Room Specification dialog of a room I've selected within a plan: If that doesn't help, then posting your plan would help. The behavior you're trying to achieve is possible, just a matter of figuring out which setting got turned off. Hope that helps!
