winterdd
Howdy folks, I am sure some of you have experienced this like I have over the years and I am finally going to ask why it happens. Why does the text in both plan and layout files shift sometimes? I have narrowed it down to two things in common and that is when I have to hold down "control" and zoom in on my pc to make the screen bigger or smaller (different scenarios require that sometimes) or I upgrade to a new computer. I can then open up a set of plans I have already worked on and have to go through and adjust each text and stretch the grip to make it go back to normal and that is very time consuming. Any tips on this (if any of this makes sense to you all)? Example below......... before after
Rookie65
Looks to me like it's an issue with the size of the text box you want to fit it in. On your image on the left, look at the space between the 2407 and the right edge. Then on the right image, it's a larger distance and it fits. Sometime just need to drag the text box a little to make it go away.
Smn842
As a software developer I know sizing of text to an area is a difficult area across different devices, OS, font scaling etc. I don't know the internals of Chief so it could be a different issue, but I've had to resolve problems like this in various applications when text only just fits an bounding area as this can lead to unexpected issues such as you'be seen in Chief. I commented a bit more about this type of issue a while back:

When I opened it today the text was all jacked up.

This is significantly less important in X16 and X17. If you are sticking with X15 or older versions, and you have re-usable text from CAD blocks, details, library items, etc., it could be worth replacing Rich Text with standard Text wherever you can. Upgrade to X17. 1

Aside from different editing capabilities and other properties, the main difference is that it is...different than standard text. Specifically when it comes to the text box size issue, this is a Rich Text problem, not a standard text problem.

A Rich Text object can contain text made up of multiple fonts, multiple type styles, multiple sizes, and colors. Plain Text cannot. However, the Plain text font, size, color, and style can all be controlled by its Layer, making it very versatile for showing different text effects on different plan views. Two very different tools. winterdd
Yeah, from the very first time I used CA and pulled a leader line with text it was rich text so that's what I used from day one.
DBCooper
Also, if you want to use the leader line tool but create plain text instead of rich text, there is a preference setting to control that.
