Stairs With Winders

For stairs, the tread overhang can be adjusted using the style option. However, for the winders at the bottom, which I created using landings, no style option is available. All three winders are constructed from landings, and notably, the first winder connected to the main stairs has no overhang.

Is there a workaround solution for removing the overhang on the landing?

It works for me.  As long as the landing is connected to the stair, it should pick up the settings from the stair.  Not sure why it doesn't work for you so you might want to post your plan.

Winders are pretty hard to make code compliant.

6" at the short point and tread length at the 12" walk line.

I sometimes wonder if the code guys fully understand what they are specifying.

Perhaps in your backwoods.

Don't get offended, my man.

I'm responding simply to OP's problem, which has nothing to do with code compliancy.  He just wanted Chief to not add nosing overhangs, from what I understood.

And maybe the building codes are ridiculous in my area but that's a discussion for another day and time, as para-Cad mentioned. (which I totally agree with as well)

Anyway, let's be friends.

Well technically, George didn't ask about code.  He only asked why his landings didn't pick up the stair settings.  Mark gave him the right answer.

Apparently, Chief doesn't like having landings stacked on top of each other.  It only likes landings butted up to each other.  See the picture below showing stacked landings vs. butted landings.  It would be nice if stacked landings worked automatically but you probably need to send Chief a feature request if you want that to change.

All good.  Note the OP clearly stated "the CAD drawings provided by the architect...but it seems they couldn’t properly construct the stairs and may have drawn them freehand."

Hi Mark,

Thank you for your help. I have a few questions regarding the stair:

  1. If the landings are aligned, will the stairs function as a single unit, with the winder overhang automatically adjusting to the stair configuration?
  2. How can I ensure the top of the stairs aligns with the top of the wall and integrates seamlessly into the room,

Below, winders built in Australia.

1. yes see my file i just adjusted the landings and then all worked

2. They should unless you have changed the stairs automatic setting but i think more information is needed as to your exact problem like screen shot or the file also with this question i am not a expert with stairs someone else may have a better reply
