How to automatically generate brand specific cabinet labels

Hello ,

I use Conestoga cabinets combined with our in-house custom shop for most of our kitchens. Is it possible to create or buy a library that would generate the correct nomenclature in the labels? For example, Chief will generate a cabinet label for a 24" base cabinet with butt doors as "B24". I would like it to match the naming system of Conestoga so it automatically reads "B24BD" in the schedule so it's easier for ordering. I don't need a style specific setup unless it's required - I just need the labels to change and show up in the schedule.

Thanks,

Short answer, maybe.

You might be able to use a custom macro to do this.  Depends a bit on the naming conventions and whether you have all that info available through the name value pairs.

For something as simple as what you are showing above, you could just modify the default label for base cabinets to use the automatic label and append the BD, as in %automatic_label%BD.

For some special cases, you might be better off just setting the label manually and then saving the cabinet in your user library for reuse.

FWIW, I can add any Manufacturer nomenclature to this macro - if I have their catalog.  Just as an example for Conestoga a 3 Drawer Base Cabinet would be B3D21 while Chief's standard Label is 3DB21.

My macro typically is used in the "code" or any other OIP field which can be used in a schedule to display B3D21

How does it handle the various ways to do 3-drawer bases?  There are three drawers all same height.  There are one shallow over two deep.  And two shallow over one deep.

Conestoga nomenclature doesn't indicate drawer sizes.  Generally they are standard sizes matching your 3rd example  - but customization is possible.  That would be handled in the Conestoga ordering system.

I do have another set of macros for the door and drawer panel sizes:

  • cabinet_panels - placed in the default label accumulates all panels into a global hash
  • cabinet_panels_detail - placed in a custom field or the comment field displays the panel sizes, finish & type
  • cabinet_panels_list - same as above but indicates the quantities so if there's more than one of the same it will indicate the qty.

The above is all based on Chief's Cabinet NVPs
