Half wall intersecting at main wall of shower: tiling issue

Recommended Posts

Consider a Wall Material Region or Custom Backsplash.

I typically use a cabinet partition for bathroom wall tiles. Set the thickness to represent the tile and place against the wall, you can then drag it to the exact position you wish and it is not affected by the underlying wall constraints or other abutting walls.

I use polyline solids in an elevation. This eliminates this problem.

As you see, there's generally more than one way to do things in Chief.

You really need to fill in your signature CV .....so people know what version you are using and can offer the appropriate advice , Wall material regions set not to cut the Parent Wall and the material the thickness of the Tile work great , but they are not an option in X7 or X8 perhaps either,  you just need to shape them in Elevation View to be really accurate.

See my sig. below so you can fill in yours...

But a Custom Backsplash is, and it's the same thing as a Wall Material Region.

Thanks for noting.  I had filled in my signature, but forgot to activate viewing them.  Now activated.

wasn't disputing that , it was just an example to make the point about filling in the sig. so you get the best advice.... and options for the version being used.

Thanks all.  My turn to say how the assistance found in this forum is prompt and powerful.

I get the feeling you guys have played around with CA for so long that you've developed a whole set of workarounds.  I'm still in the early stage of the learning curve and I'm somewhat of a nit picker: it should work so I spend too much time trying to make it work.  I'm slowly developing the attitude that CA is a complex and powerful tool, but it has its weaknesses, which I must accept.

So, just to add to the perplexity, here's a similar half wall in the master bathroom that turns out ok, even though the break in the back wall ends up in the middle of the intersecting half wall.  Go figure.  But I know, from my limited experience, that even here there's somethings wrong because I can see glitter on that wall intersection when I pan in 3D.

I know, I need to move on...

except they go on different layers, I like material regions for showers and custom back splash's for those.

      Good Afternoon -

I have put in some half walls and some beams to an interior space.  Where the half walls are, they block my beams.  It appears that they are invisible above where they show on the bottom and then blocks the beam at the ceiling.  Is there a different way to do a half wall so that it doesn't do that?  Picture below shows what I'm talking about... that beam is drawn all the way to the window but when I put the half wall in that beam disappeared.

      I'm running X9 Interiors on a Windows 10 platform.

      Thanks in advance.

I can't find a way to show "Railings" ,"Half Walls" or "Knee Walls" in a Wall Elevation. I've futzed with Layer Sets, to no avail. What am I doing wrong?

They show fine in a Full Elevation, why not in a Wall Elevation?

I'm sure this must be user error. I can go on working by using the Full Elev. but prefer a Wall Elev in Kitchen & Bath, Interior work.

      Thanks for setting me straight...

Can someone tell me how to create an interior dividing wall that starts at ceiling height but slopes (curves like a ramp) down to a half wall?  I can create a wall with a straight slope using a wedge shape sitting on top of a half wall but I want there to be a curve to the slope.  See image below.  THanks for any help!!  I'm using Home Designer Interiors 2016 on a mac laptop.

I am adding several offices in a large room that has a suspended ceiling.  The office walls will be 8ft and open above that.
Right now I have the walls defined as a pony wall with the lower wall as a Interior-4, 8ft high, and the upper has a blank wall created from air. When I create a camera view, the suspended ceiling is cut from the blank wall going to the full ceiling height.  Right now I do not have a roof built so it is easy to see.

I've tried a half wall (solid railing) that works except when I add a door, there is no header and the casing goes the full 8ft height.  Added a soffit above the door frame does not help, the casing still goes to the top of the wall.

      Any help would be appreciated.

      Thanks,

The ceiling is about 20ft high with the suspended ceiling at 12ft.

I don't know what's up here. I placed a Half Wall (Railing) 42" H behind the Blue Sofa - but it doesn't show up. It did cut a hole in the floor, though.

After I took the screen shots, I went to zip the file and got this error message from WinZip.

Appreciate your thoughts. I did try closing CA and re-opening and had the same results. I have not rebooted.
