  1. instead the whole dbx could be a constant open window on the side like the library browser and all the "workarounds" would still be "workarounds" you can add "pretty little flowers" and "new car smells" and they would still be there I agree - modeless would be wonderful I liked it when programming VB6 and VB.net etc a decade ago Lew
  2. Doug: Please "fix" all the "work-arounds" first Lew
  3. I don't think we should argue the correct order Lew Larry: whose arguing ? I'm stating MY opinion, just as you stated yours sheesh, I get tired of this s**t Lew
  4. Dennis: the new forum has an issue when replying if you click to close to the top when starting a reply it activates on the formatting tools I've had italics and underline and strike-thru etc I've learned to click way down towards the bottom Lew
  5. Cicadas are bugs I've thought about sautéing them in a garlic butter but in the end couldn't do it some have covered them in fancy chocolate to make them more appealing but in the end - they are still bugs !!! get rid of the bugs first - then go fancy Lew
  6. Then learn about Annotation Sets. Absolutely key to using Chief effectively Larry: layers and layersets yes... annosets can wait until its time to create cd's on layout many other things to learn first, such as roofs, terrain, etc Lew
  7. probably best to contact CA's tech support Lew
  8. take a house - any house preferably your own or a family or friends that you have constant access to and model it - completely by the time you are done you will have a very good understanding of how Chief works learning "features" in a void - doesn't work for me Lew
  9. maybe the layer was created in layout ??? Lew
  10. Johnny: the GUI has "nothing" to do with all the "workarounds" old or new GUI - - it is still a "workaround" "workarounds" are proof that Chief can do the task they just need "proper" programming to become "features" instead of "workarounds" Lew
  11. given a super fancy GUI if I have to continue dealing with all the "workarounds" then I would continue to be "annoyed" fix the "broken" first then go fancy Lew
  12. try this site: http://www.chiefsymbols.com/ especially for the AEC details I bought these back in 2005 not sure when last updated - so verify Lew
  13. I would vote to fix all the things that need "fixin" then go modeless Lew
  14. Lew did not answer the question Scott: my method prevents the need for the question Lew
  15. Todd: I do a double "save as" - very quick, very easy master plan and layout are always the same name thus they stayed linked together I'll do a "save as" with date and time and LBX6 added for the backup/archive then I do a "save as" with the master names master naming scheme: 123_MAIN.plan and 123_MAIN.LAYOUT backup/archive: 123_MAIN_141215_1725_LBX6.plan 123_MAIN_141215_1725_LBX6.layout I add my initials when I work on the files my partner adds his when he works on the files we used to use subs for some tasks and they would use their initials Lew
  16. Jay: just making a point that CA doesn't let us know what their priorities are and how they can waste resources by not consulting the "gurus" this why some requests go undone for far too long so my comment wasn't aimed at an X3 issue - but an example so CA makes major improvements to mono slabs and from the postings on this forum they still don't have it right CA should identify and consult SME's on the various features/topics Lew
  17. David: It is also knowing all/most of the "work-arounds" for solutions that are NOT covered in the manual and can only be learned by true experimentation or via sharing on this forum if a user tried to do only what is covered in the manual and videos they would be "unable" to do some of the tasks this forum is invaluable for sharing those "secrets" Lew
  18. However, CA can also put time and resources into a disaster like the library system in X3 that then had to be ripped out and replaced in X4 if they communicated with an inner circle of chiefers when setting priorities and deciding on solutions they might be able to avoid such mistakes I have liked every release since ver 9.5 lament that some of my favorites are still missing and enjoy what is given and start the ask/demand cycle all over again Lew
  19. Wow, I didn't know that CA had pulled it I wonder why ??? they were used when exporting .DWG files to AutoCAD etc did AutoCAD stop using them ??? Michael: no attachment Lew
  20. Chief already has the AIA naming standard available I don't remember the details of how to activate it but it's there for use Lew
  21. profile.plan is what comes with Chief OOB there is also profilem.plan for metric Lew
  22. The anno set on the Plan tab is new for X6 though Rod: thanks for the clarification Not sure I can make sense of it all - the rabbit hole is deeper than I thought As a former systems analyst I thought I could map it all out but with taking 1-2 naps a day and always feeling like I need one I think my cognitive reasoning has dissipated some Lew
  23. Layout Box Layers Icon on the default toolbar and select the Layer Set from the drop down box Rod: kinda surprised that CA didn't put this on the Plan View tab also would keep "everything" in one place I'm sure they had a reason - just not sure I agree with it Lew
