once Win 8.1 is installed - properly your PC should never know that it had a prior OS on it such as Win 7 if parts of Win 7 are being found then the Win 8.1 was done properly Chief should have installed fine on a Win 7 PC so if it didn't then there was an issue you probably should contact CA's tech support if you don't have an active SSA then there will be a charge Lew

Bob: since I am NOT an expert with roofs in fact - can barely get beyond the basics I rely on auto-roofs - most manual tweaks and more are done by my partner/friend so this is why I create any separate buildings in a separate plan then make 3D symbols of them and place the symbol(s) in the master plan this keeps these out-buildings from messing with the main building settings it also allows for using auto-gen for the roofs and being able to make roof and foundation changes etc wiithout messing with the main building settings some of the experts say it can all be done in one plan maybe so for experts .... In most states you just need to follow the IRC codes and an architect is not needed I took several code classes where the instructor wrote the codes for the ICC his analogy was when you are sick you can go to the pharmacy and get OTC drugs which are covered by the IRC If you need more than OTC then you need a prescription (an architect) and need to use the IBC Lew- 94 replies

need of an architect in a facility design Yusef: agree 100% non-architects are NOT allowed to do plans for non-residential beyond certain limits such as 3-4 floors and/or sqft etc this thread is about residential designs Lew- 94 replies

Johnny: I doubt if post #6 would have been made without post #4 and #5 I know that architects can "usually" provide a better design than I can or "most" self-taught designers Again, I have referred a number of clients to seek out an architect but my only complaint is that the architects stop chiding us "selfers" for doing a dis-service to our clients I still believe if the client is happy then that is the bottom line everything else is just one opinion versus another get 10 or 100 architects in a room and I seriously doubt there will be "consensus" on whether certain plans are "ugly" can you really drive down the highway and know for certain that some of those "ugly" designs that you despise weren't done by an architect ??? Is this a proven approach?" Johnny: see my reply in post #2 I took her query to be "can an architect using Chief Premier work with my HD PRO plans ???" BTW: I know about the Golden Ratio ('ve read Vitruvius and Palladio) does that make me a good designer Lew- 94 replies

Richard: these quotes are from your article If you don't like the word "sue" - then choose another whatever floats your boat She hired a lawyer to appeal the commission’s positive decision to the city’s Board of Adjustment, which reviews procedural errors by city agencies Cherry and Gordon no longer had a building permit. It was suddenly illegal for them to so much as hammer another nail, and the possibility that the half-finished house would have to be torn down became real. Just the other day they got a judge to give them permission to resume construction just long enough to close up the incomplete house and protect it from the weather Lew- 94 replies

Richard: I concede, your article is better... I don't know this story from shinola I stumbled across the article and posted it as an example of how "opinions" come into play - that is all it wasn't meant to be a "treatise" on everything that happened the neighbor was annoyed and apparently is still annoyed I'm glad he was able to finish the house If I had received approval and started construction I would have sued the board etc I'm sorry they gave approval in the first place but they did and it's kinda late to reverse that Lew- 94 replies

Richard: I don't know if the building is "ugly" or not personally, I don't like it but I don't like "modern" arch. that much anyways and if the neighborhood is "traditional" then it may not "fit" but my opinion is not why I posted the article Lew- 94 replies

Richard: hmm, construction has been stopped at 85% the Historic board reversed their decision you can split hairs but the articles say the same thing the neighbor didn't like the building and got the board to change their mind "ugly' is in the eye of the beholder that was my only point in posting that article what some consider "ugly" may not be "ugly" to others Lew- 94 replies

I had to do this pro bono for someone I clicked on each drawing in the layout so that it would go back to the plan (there were 3) then I created a .DWG of each drawing from the plan and send the entire collection via email Lew

I bought an HP 110 Plus for $950 in 2006 then never even plugged it in I decided that I didn't want to be in the print business and gave the clients PDF's for them to take to print shop much easier that way In 2011 I donated the unused printer to the local history dept Lew
