  1. I agree with Johnny as it does not look good on sloped ceilings. It's where the slope meets the wall and its the top and bottom edge of the crown molding is where it does not look good and the steeper the pitch the less attractive it looks. The joint at the peek is also not very aesthetically pleasing either. Crown molding is designed for a 90 deg. corner at the top and bottom edge.
  2. I second or third for GE Appliances, Whirlpool Appliances, Updated Jen Air appliances, Delta, the Simpson catalog is way out dated as well as all the paint mfg catalogs, tile catalogs ect.... When was the last time anyone at Chief went thru and updated the manufacture catalogs ?
  3. Joe, I gave my thoughts on how stairs could be improved in another thread. Something as simple as showing stair jacks tight to the wall even though that's not how they are installed. Rails with knee walls are the norm for about every residential builder across the US but are not easily done.
  4. I would not want to deal with anything out of Uranus.
  5. Anyone who takes the time to do a video gets a point from me.
  6. Alan, are you referring to post and bean on top of pier pads (no foundation wall and footing)? If so the program does not do it automatically. To do post and beam just create a blank foundation, set reference display to fist floor, draw in your beams, add post (round or square) with pier and add your joists. All parts go in at the proper heights. If you want it elevated just lower the terrain and post and piers should automatically adjust. I have drawn several of these types of buildings.
  7. Wife was going thru pictures on pintrest and found this cabinet option. Does anyone know what the three objects with handles inserted in the cabinet base are?
  8. Johnny, I have been checking this out. I have never used sketchup but considering learning. I do like the Profile Maker add on. Can you create 3D details from the model in Vectorworks? You mentioned smart parts or smart details. I cannot remember the exact name but where did you here about that feature? I would think it would be a standard feature to create 3D details from a model no matter what Architectural program a person owns. I have been looking at quite a few programs the last couple of days and in one you it looks like you are drawing in 2D but rotate the wheel on the mouse and it rotates the model to 3D. Lots of design software out there to make a head spin. I wish I was 15 years younger as I would like to see what Chief comes up.
  9. I do not like the way Chief figures rafter tails. You should be able to specify what ever depth you want, instead of by the facia.
  10. Thanks guys. Check this link out that Johnny supplied in a different thread: http://www.sketchupbook.com/ Scroll down until you see the rows and columns of plans. Check out the right row and the two at the bottom. This is some of what I would like to do in Chief. If you check Nick,s videos there is one on 3D details. It would be nice if the section in chief was a live 3D model. What I mean by a live 3D model is if we could rotate the section to see 3D aspects of the model. I know we have the 3D slider section but you cannot annotate on it. Gawdzira Dave, nice detail. Dave S: I thought we could create 3D details in Revit off a section view but its been a long time since I used the program. Michael: Thanks for the plan files. I will play around with them and see what I can come up with.
  11. Gene, no particular reason as I saw some really nice 3D details from an Architect that Johnny posted a link to. He did everything in Sketchup but was wondering if there was an easy way to go it in Chief. Just playing around as I have nothing to do as I go beck to full time work on Nov 7th as a Construction manager overseeing all the Superintendents and other field personnel.
  12. Thanks Gene. I guess I am going to have to learn Sketchup. I am embarrassed to say I have never used it before.
  13. What is the best way to accomplish this task in Chief? Tried drawing using cad tools but you cannot resize things using the Temp. Dim. tool. Its a painful process.
  14. I have cheated by using lines and the make parallel tool along with a text box with the dimension. I don't know if its a grid snap issue or what. Maybe Michael will chime in with some easy answer and make me feel like "Knucklehead".
  15. As far as multiple views, double click the header of the view you want.
  16. I do not think it is frowned apon but buildings have become much larger and complex. Not saying the pyramids where not complex at the time in history when they were built but they did not have HVAC, plumbing and electrical systems and a pyramid shape is naturally stable. The Architects position evolved with technology.
  17. Click the inset sheet after or before tool.
  18. Was the original intent of roof ridge cresting used to keep birds(pigeons maybe) off the roof?
  19. Newell, The interface looks the same. Click on the blue door at the top of the forum screen where you see the Facebook and YouTube Icons.
  20. No harsh regulations or environmental impact studies in AUS. It would take us four years for a study and could still deny the project. Our beach was visited by University of Washington students studying environmental impacts on shoreline. I was approach by one student and he recommended I tear down my bulk head retaining wall is it causes excess erosion to happen and it destroys nursery habitat for juvenile fish. I told him to write me a check for $1,000,000 ( not worth nearly that amount) and he could do what he wants.
  21. Joe, you probably already know this but Architects where the General Contractors for their designs from the great Pyramids in Egypt (and most likely before) to the ealry nintienth century. They had to convey their vision to the people actually doing the work. They had a really good program on the History Channel on the history of Architecture.
  22. Anyone ever watch "Leave it to Beaver" when they were a Kid. Wally use to call Beaver a Little knucklehead all the time.
