OK Timmy, I stripped it down and can sort of see what's going on but cannot see the building outline thru the roof. Is this a height issue you are dealing with and that's why the surveyor needs dimensions to the roof ridgeline? Help us out here so we can help you. I have read your request several times and cannot figure it out. If the surveyor knows the dimensions around the perimeter of the building(s), like Alan said you only need one control point.

I am having a heck of a time getting started...Need help!

That video was great. Everything he said had truth to it. I do not take anything personal on line. Its just lines arcs and circles forming text. I have been called a lot worse by my wife. I think knucklehead is better than being called stupid or dumb. I cannot count the times when I have heard someone say "Ya little knucklehead". When my Mom got mad at me she would call me "Buster". To this day I do not no if it had any significant meaning or not. See ya later you knuckleheads. -
Thanks Shane for got to mention to add 3/4" to door height RO. I am seeing a lot of exterior doors with 1" jams and I now callout widths 2 3/4" over door call out size and also add "check with the builder". Always easier to shrink the RO than make it bigger.
-
I always set my ext. doors up 3/4" threshold on top a piece of 3/4" PLY or OSB on top of subfloor under the door threshold so when the finished floor is installed on the inside, the door sweep will clear an entrance mat or rug place in front of the door. I just make a note on the plan.

Timmy, what is it that we are even looking at. Is it a house? Maybe you can shade in the actually building(s) and get rid of the dimensions and repost the plan. To be honest it scared the bejesus out of me when I opened it up. Not demeaning your drawing but I think there maybe be more dimensions than a person might need.

For doing that you are the subcontrators friend Perry. They hate searching for what they need.

You should still set up different size sheets when you haves some free time

Need bathroom design in Ridgefield, WA
Northriver replied to eastridgefieldCF's topic in Seeking Services
Do you have any pictures and a small sketch of whet you want. Is their existing plumbing or will it be a jack hammer job. It will also have to be ADA compliant. I would do it but live about an hour and a half north of you and do new construction only. There is a guy on this forum from the Longveiw area. Hopefully he will chime in. Good luck in your new venture and hope you are successful. -

You are not going to see rebar as Chief does not add it into the foundation for display. You will need to show rebar in a detail. You have to build the framing for it to show in section view or any view. Make sure all the framing layers are turned on in the view. Chief has a lot of videos on framing. Also check out the knowledge Base. Chief also provides quite a few cad blocks in the library under the heading "Cad" to design details. Search on youtube for videos. I know the manual is a pain to read as it constantly refers you to other pages but will give you basic information on how to use chief. -
As Mark says they do not display consistantly. For me they always turn back into a regular cabinet. I rarely do cabinet layouts for the builders I do drawings for, but often practice to get a better understanding of how the cabinet tools work. One of the videos on Chiefs site Scott Harris shows how he makes blind corner cabinets. Sorry do not remember which video. In fact it may be the same ways Mark does it.

Alan I have been using 300dpi to store and email. I do not notice any difference and do not know the difference in file size but wanted to keep it low due to how they bloat chief. Not from personal experience but from what I have read on this forum. I figured I would follow the advice offered. I guess it would make a difference if PDF was a picture and now thinking about it more its mostly lines and text so I am wondering if I could go less.

Lew, if you keep the standard size of the window and door text (sizes) I would need a magnifying glass to read. Hey, when are you going to post some updates on that project you are working on. I would be interested in seeing your work but do not want to travel to NY to see it. Thanks
-
I am wondering if he is visiting Parker in NY. His last post was at 2 or 3 something in the AM my time(West Coast).

I have an idea. Like Lew said draw a boarder around to get 22x34. Add for print margins and make sure everything on the layout fits inside that box. Print at 50% which is technically 12x18 but stick 11x17 paper in the machine and print. I am assuming you want 11x17 for project buy out. The problem with doing this is your text height is no longer to scale and will be difficult to read.
-
Your dead on CJ. Finally an answer to my problem. Thanks a million Actually, I was in the detail mode when that happened. I must have accidently hit a wrong key on the keyboard or a wrong tool inside the DBX.
-
Half of 24 x 36 is 12 x 18. So yes that is the problem. You are scaling the paper size so anything on that paper will be reduced accordingly. So going from 24x36 down to 11x17 you reduced everything by about 68% instead of 50%. Its easy to set up a new layout page to 11 x 17. Then you can send at an 1/8th so you will be 100% sure that it is correct. Someone posted a video on how to change layout sheets and the info on those sheets by using either annosets or layer sets but cannot for the life of me remember who did it.

Saving prices and/or comments in material list
Northriver replied to DanOfEarth's topic in General Q & A
Keep in mind that the material list will only be as accurate as your model. If you make mistakes drawing your plans it will be reflected in the material list. I personally do not use the material list as my builders want 2-D drawings only. I use some place holders (Cabinets) in my drawings and if you where to take a camera view of the inside it would reflect that.- 5 replies

Ok Ok DJP, I re-worded remember to display. I know that CA does not have a brain but one day it might so I can just tell it thru a microphone what I want and it will comply to my every command. Or it might take over everything I own and destroy me.
-
How come Chief does not remember the last Text size used when using the text. Sometimes it does not remember the text style neither. What am I doing wrong? PS. In one of my templates 4x post appears in Text every time I open the rich Text DBX. I cannot figure out how to delete it.

LOL. Shane I must be blind this morning. Thanks for leading him down the right path.

Watch some of the render videos at Chief (The 2015 seminar video). A good start is by darkening the default grass. I did not realize it but 95% of the Videos on Chief are in X7 and X8 format now. It would be nice if you could set up "Terrain Layers" like the walls so dirt and other earth type objects can be depicted.

Braced Wall Question, Please see charts attached.
Northriver replied to zowie123's topic in General Q & A
Barry can you post your braced wall detail (You will have to supply it to the Bldg. Dept. anyway)? If that wall you are concerned about has a wall aligned within 4' of each side of the wall that you are concerned about it is considered one "Braced Wall Line". It can be an interior walls, exterior walls or both. Also depending on the circumstance you are allowed to add hold downs also. I have done two prescriptive path designs but as with most designs I had to have the garage walls engineered at a cost of $150.00 instead of $1600.00 for the entire plan.. -
I assume you have a truss MFG you use for all your trusses. As soon as you get your roof drawn send it to the truss MFG and have them do a layout and then you review it. Keep doing that until you are comfortable doing it on your own. Get them to send you designs they have done for other builders so you can under stand truss layout. I always had my Design team send their plans to the truss MFG for design, then study the design and add to the plans. You will get to a point where you can tell the Truss MFG on how you want them designed.
