I've had a HP 9800 printer for a few years now and have never had a problem with it. It prints up to 13"x19", but you can custom size your paper. I do 12"x18" all the time.

The more cores the better. Next month Intell is bringing out their 8 core processors. If you want speed I'd wait and start with one of them. Of course you might have to go to the bank. I haven't read up enough about them to know the cost of the processor. but I'd bet they will be +$1000.00 If you have the "Need For Speed" then money is no object.

In elevation view "lay" the p-solid first on one of the post. Then stretch it to the overall size in width and height of the piece you want to have. With the p-solid highlighted, make a break on each side of the post where you want the arch to start. Then click on the section you want arched. Go to the bottom left corner of your CA window and click on "Change Line/Arc" icon. Repeat for all sections where you want arches. This is a very basic procedure in using the tools CA has to offer. I would study the manual and watch the many videos available. There are many free videos at Chieftutor.com, DSHall on Youtube, on Chiefarchitect.com (the training videos). I hope this helps and doesn't confuse you too much. Good luck and welcome to Chieftalk.

By molding, are you talking about the arched boards attached to the post? If so, then this can easily be accomplished with the use of p-solids.

Scott......Sorry for not piping in earlier. I've been away from the computer for a couple of days. I didn't think at the time it was necessary to make my question any clearer because just before that I was asking about showing the subfloor in the framing overview (temporarily). That was the "thought" I had in my head when I first asked the question about being able to show the roof sheeting in the 3d framing overview, but it looks like the "thought" was only in my head and no one else. And yes I do realize it can be done the way Rich describes. Like you said, there are many ways to do it in the context of Rich's way. I was thinking "temporary".

Sink in cabinet showing in reference display

I don't have the countertop layer on. I turned off all layers except for the cabinet base layer and I still have no sink showing in the reference display. -
Sink in cabinet showing in reference display
Larry_Sweeney replied to Larry_Sweeney's topic in General Q & A
Michael......................Your's barely visible----mine invisible! What sink did you use? I'm using the standard double kitchen sink that is in the library. -
What is the trick to show a sink in a base cabinet using the Reference Display? I'm doing a plumbing layout and was going to turn on the base cabinets with sinks on the floor above for referencing my drain lines. The base cabinet shows, but the sink in the cabinet doesn't. I played around with the reference display options and layers but I can't find the cure. Is there one?

Transferring rafters from one plan to another
Larry_Sweeney replied to Larry_Sweeney's topic in General Q & A
What is their reasoning behind this? Something to do with codes or liability out there? -
I would like to show the plywood floor in a 3D framing overview. I've played around with the floor surfaces, rooms and floor structure setup trying to get the right combination so the plywood subfloor would show along with the framing in a framing overview, but things aren't going very well. I remember Scott had a video "somewhere" where he was accomplishing this, but I can't locate it. Scott, can you or someone steer me in the right direction on how to get the subfloor to show? Thanks.

Transferring rafters from one plan to another
Larry_Sweeney replied to Larry_Sweeney's topic in General Q & A
Perry....Thanks for leading me in the right direction. After "playing around" with the truss base and my situation I finally got acceptable results. My situation was using the "California Tie-In", but instead of pulling trusses I wanted to use rafters over the truss base. I don't know if it was the correct way, but I made seperate roof planes just over the truss base, Highlighted those planes and had CA just build framing for those planes. I'm not sure this is the "correct" way, but I got the results that were acceptable. I seem to think Scott may have done a video on this quite a while back, but I didn't find it. Now if we could only get CA to give us the ability to do the correct framing for using rafters on a "California Tie-In". Have a great day. -
Transferring rafters from one plan to another

Perry....I've never done this in CA before to be honest. Can you direct me to a good training video or reading on the subject? Or would it be better/easier to post the plan? -
Transferring rafters from one plan to another

Perry........Are you saying I should have a "truss base" for the rafter plan? -
Transferring rafters from one plan to another
Larry_Sweeney replied to Larry_Sweeney's topic in General Q & A
I have a plan that is mostly trusses, but there are a few places that I want to use rafters. I have two plans--one using rafters and one with trusses. I copied all the rafters from one plan and temporally set them next to my "truss plan" trusses. I then copied certain rafters over on to the trusses. Everything went well until I got to a certain area. (attachment). When I transferred rafters marked "A" over they went to nailer's between the trusses "B". Any ideas? Am I going about this correctly? I tried blocking the rafters before coping them but the block disappeared in vector view even though the layer they were on was on. -

In the "drop down" window for elevations click on and use the "Wall Elevation". That will give you what you're after.

Randy.......Checked out the items you mention and everything checks out okay. I sent in a ticket to see what Support has to say. Since I'm not very "computer savvy", whenever I get any "pop up message" I get nervous real quick. Appreciate the advice. I'll let you know what Support says. Have a great day.

This window started popping up every few minutes. Can anyone explain what it is telling me and what to do to stop it? Should I be worried? I have plenty of space on my hard drive.

How to remove lines between wall & half-wall in elevation?
Larry_Sweeney replied to Christina_Girerd's topic in General Q & A
Do the lines show up once you send it to layout. Many times once an elevation is sent to layout these types of lines are gone. If they are still there in layout you always have the option of editing (eraseing) the line in layout. If you do edit lines in layout make sure it's the last thing you do in yout layout. This is because if you happen to open the layout window you edited you will lose all your editing. -
Bill..........I deleted the door and then copied a door from the second floor that showed correctly (opaque glass) in elevation. Once the copied door was in the double wall the glass was no longer opaque. I had done this early on in trying to trouble shoot the problem. I did a work around using the p-solid like I talked about. I think this is a Bug, but I've been wrong many times before. I'll post the plan through Dropbox. The p-solid is the layer named "Door, masking". I think I turned it off before sending the plan file. Here's the link. https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/49042923/BOYD%20STATION%2003282014.zip

Joe............The problem is that the French door's glass isn't opaque and it should be. All the other glass in this and the other elevations are opaque. The question is why isn't the glass in this French door opaque? When I mentioned the opening indicators was how I noticed that the glass wasn't opaque. The opening indicator has nothing to do with the problem of the "non-opaque" glass. Sorry for the confusion.

First off, or should I say SECOND OFF. I wrote all this before, hit the post and it supposedly posted, when I went back to Q & A it wasn't there. This posting problem is really starting to P*** me off! Some day some how I'm going to find where those post get posted. Oh well, that's a whole other subject. I'm going to try this again...... I was working on an elevation and I noticed that in one of my French doors the glass wasn't opaque. All the other windows and doors in this elevation and the other elevations were opaque. I picked this up when I noticed two opening indicators showing on the French door. This is when I realized the glass wasn't opaque. The "other" door that is showing (I painted yellow to show up better) is at the other end of a hall from the French door. In the attachment I show part of the elevation and the floor plan where the French door is located. I'm pretty sure the cause of this is due to the way I installed the door, but I don't know how else this could be done. I made a doorway in the block wall and then installed the French door in the framed wall because I want the door to be able to swing against the wall in the hallway. This is as you would do it in the "real world". I tried changing the "double wall" to all three of the different options for double walls and it didn't change the problem of the opaque glass. I suppose as a work around I could just put a p-solid behind the door, "paint" it white and have it turned on for this elevation anno set, but I thought maybe I'm just going about the door installation wrong. Has anyone had this happen to them or know the correct way of installing this door so the glass is opaque? Would this be considered a bug?

What Scott is saying in a round about way is POST THE PLAN.
