Controlling "Line weight" on/off for Layout only
Larry_Sweeney replied to Larry_Sweeney's topic in General Q & A
Doug... Sorry if I'm making everyone misunderstand what I'm asking. What I'm trying to say is that I would like to be able to turn on the lineweight in the Layout "file" while keeping it off in the Plan "file". When the lineweights are on in the plan file and you're working on a detail "zoomed in", things can get hard to decipher, but I want to be able to check the layout to see what the actual "printed" layout view will look like. -
Yeah, that's was good. I knew there must be lot's of my friends I should send that to, but I forgot who they were.
-
I'd like to have the Line weight showing on my Layout while not on my Plan view. Is there a way that this can be done? I have my Layout in it's own window on one monitor while my plan view is shown on it's own window on another monitor. When I turn on the line weights for the Layout the Plan view line weights also are turned on. I think this is a "new" problem associated with X6, unless I'm missing a setting somewhere.

Curt.......Thanks for the .pdfs. I saved them and will put both to good use. I do remember Tim from my earlier days on Chieftalk. Appreciate all your time in helping out this old guy.

Doug.....I will try. I do know it's occurring all the time now. It was happening to me in one window, so I went to a "cad detail" I was working on and everything was working okay there. What's odd sometimes, I'll try to move a wall by checking on a dimension on one side of the wall and nothing happens. I'll go to the dimension on the other side of the wall, which is part of the same dimension string, and I'm able to move the wall. Like I mentioned earlier, I keep a close eye on it. I do know that by closing the program and reopening it "resets" everything. It's a real PITA. Thanks for letting us know it's something you know about.

Curt...Sorry. You were giving me all the correct info. I finally found it. I was having a "brain fart" moment or too much coffee. Many thanks. Have a great day.

Curt....That's exactly what I'm looking for, but when I go to my "custom" ,pat file area all I see is what is shown in the attachment. Am I not looking in the correct area. I'm going to Fill Style, Custom, Browse. Is there more somewhere?

Curt.....It was for a plywood cross section. I remember in AC the "plywood cross section" pattern was three or four horizontal lines with diagonal lines between the horizontal lines or something close to that. Can't believe CA doesn't have one. In the past I've used the "wavy wood" lines horizontally, but I'm not crazy about it.
-
Dpes anyone have a plywood .pat file they would care to share? If CA has one I was unable to locate it. Thank you.

I was pretty sure I'd hear about that. Next time maybe I should say "cutting a tree", but then I'll hear from the "tree huggers".

I believe you're new, so welcome to the forum. It's all part of learning a new program, which I assume you're doing. There are many ways to "skin a cat" (sorry cat lovers). It's whatever you get use to. As you begin to learn/work this program "some" things start to make more sense on why it is done in a certain way and then there are things I still don't understand why it's done a certain way. By the way, if you are going to be on the forum, it's nice to have a signature with your name, program version and your setup. Have a great day.

I'm having the same problem. I find if I close out CA and then reopen it the program is okay and working correctly, It seems the start to happen after the program is running for a couple of hours. What's so strange is that it may work on one wall or door and the dimensioned wall right beside it or even in the same dimension string it will not work. It definitely has to be a bug. It started doing this just since I've updated a couple of days ago. I'm sort of glad to hear someone else has noticed the same problem.

Once the window is highlighted click on the components dbx. in the bottom left.
-
I'm pretty sure it's always been this way. At least since v10.08 (2006).
-
That's a little unusual for someone to just have around. It isn't difficult to build---just time consuming. You can get a couple of hours to half a day or more into it. Just depends on the detail you want, but it can be easily be completed in CA. Is that picture for a new house or is it from an 1860/70's Italianate?
-
This is in vector view---correct? I believe once you send the view to layout the framing won't show. I know it can be annoying. I usually just turn off those layers if possible in the view I'm looking at if possible. I'll be very happy if someone comes on and says there is a way to fix this.

In the roof dbx. of the new roof set the fascia hgt. and the ridge hgt. the same as the original roof. Then the pitch will be changed by the program.

Not enough "squeaks" to grease the wheel.

How can I change the profile of an Apron?
Larry_Sweeney replied to 44DesignBld's topic in General Q & A
Make a molding profile of the window stool (sill) and the crown molding profile underneath all as one unit. Then add it to the library. In the sill dbx. add that molding as the custom sill. Check wrap and extend to the measurement you want. Make sure you have the "apron" dbx. unchecked. The only problem when doing this is that CA puts the new profile below the frame and not where the apron should be positioned. A downfall with the program, but that's another story. -
Joey...Thanks for the advice. That looks like the best way to deal with it. I wonder what determines the "Living Area" label position? Something somewhere must.
-
Is there a setting dbx. that I can change to reposition the "Living Area" label? It's right in the middle of my dimensions. I've moved it, then locked room labels, then made a couple of changes in the plan and it's back again to the old spot. I don't want to "turn it off" because it is part of room labels and I want them displayed. There is surely a way to work around this or a dbx. I'm missing. There should be a way for each floor to adjust this due to the fact that for each for it may have to be in a different position.

The way I do it is to use a p-solid, but you have to "fudge" the door height so the CA door sill doesn't show. For years many have been asking CA to have more control over both door and window sills. I've been asking since version 10 (2006), but I know it was being asked for before that.Whenever a new version comes out the first thing I look at is to see if or what improvements were made to doors and windows. Then I think---maybe next year. For now the best "I" can tell you is to make it look as good as you can in render/vector view and then adjust what you have too in a cad detail cross section if you need to really explain what you want. After that go to Suggestions and ask for more control with door and window sills. I've been told in round about way that CA the "squeaky wheel gets greased". SQUEAK, SQUEAK, SQUEAK!
-
If there is no need to show the framing then a p-solid is the way to go. That's what a good framer is suppose to know how to do anyway---why confuse him.

Fascia One Color Roof Framing Members Another
Larry_Sweeney replied to HumbleChief's topic in General Q & A
"If you do not want a soffit but you want the fascia and roof framing different materials, zero out the fascia sizes and then add a shadow board that can be used as the fascia. You can then have the two different materials." Scott....Great idea---thinking outside the box! -
If you want to show framing you will have to go with a ceiling plane. Now will CA do it correctly is a whole other story.
