  1. First off, or should I say SECOND OFF. I wrote all this before, hit the post and it supposedly posted, when I went back to Q & A it wasn't there. This posting problem is really starting to P*** me off! Some day some how I'm going to find where those post get posted. Oh well, that's a whole other subject. I'm going to try this again...... I was working on an elevation and I noticed that in one of my French doors the glass wasn't opaque. All the other windows and doors in this elevation and the other elevations were opaque. I picked this up when I noticed two opening indicators showing on the French door. This is when I realized the glass wasn't opaque. The "other" door that is showing (I painted yellow to show up better) is at the other end of a hall from the French door. In the attachment I show part of the elevation and the floor plan where the French door is located. I'm pretty sure the cause of this is due to the way I installed the door, but I don't know how else this could be done. I made a doorway in the block wall and then installed the French door in the framed wall because I want the door to be able to swing against the wall in the hallway. This is as you would do it in the "real world". I tried changing the "double wall" to all three of the different options for double walls and it didn't change the problem of the opaque glass. I suppose as a work around I could just put a p-solid behind the door, "paint" it white and have it turned on for this elevation anno set, but I thought maybe I'm just going about the door installation wrong. Has anyone had this happen to them or know the correct way of installing this door so the glass is opaque? Would this be considered a bug?
  2. What Scott is saying in a round about way is POST THE PLAN.
  3. To all..... Thanks for taking the time to give input on how you deal with different types of details and sections. I've picked up some very good information. Have a great day.
  4. Rod...I guess you could say that this is also my question as a whole on this subject matter. Thanks to all for your input. It's much appreciated.
  5. I'm completely self taught, but I've been doing designing for over 40 yrs. and have always had this question in the back of my mind. What is the difference between a section and a cross-section? Sometimes when making a "cut" I'll use the "backclipped cross-section" tool and other times I'll use the "Cross section/Elevation" tool and refer to both as "Sections". As you know one will give you just the actual "cut" while the other gives you the "cut" and what is beyond that cut in the direction of the arrow. Are they both referred to as a section? Is it "proper" to use both in the same layout and call them both "Sections" or should each type be referred to by separate names? If separate then by what? I've looked through different books on the subject over the years and have really never come across a definitive answer. No one looking at my plans have ever said anything one way or another about how I had them drawn. Like I said, it has always bugged me and I'm just curious. You know, It's h--- being a perfectionist. Thank you.
  6. Doug.......Thanks for reviewing this thread. Ah yes, there's always a trade off. Do you have a better suggestion?
  7. I don't know if you would call this a work around, but it was what I was after. I just go into Layout and turn on the print review. This way I can see the line weight on the layout and I can keep the line weights turned off in the plan file.
  8. I have an instance on my first floor where I have my "cross section camera arrows" close to my floor plan. When I go to my second floor I must pull my dimensions out farther away from the plan and thus my "camera arrows" also need to be pulled out farther away from the actual floor plan. Now back on my first floor the "camera arrows" are way out away from the rest of the plan. With it like this, when I send to layout my first floor "camera arrow" locations are taking up valuable space that I could fill with something else. It would be nice if we were able to adjust the cameras in or out from the plan on each level to eliminate this problem. I believe in previous versions we were only able to click on a camera on the floor plan that is was made on. I'm not talking about moving the arrows so that the cross section changes, but "in and out" as referenced to the cross section cut. I know I could turn off my cameras and just place callouts manually, but these would not be able to automatically update. (CA is starting to spoil me) Is there any other way to accomplish this? If not, is it worth making a "Suggestion"?
  9. Doug... Sorry if I'm making everyone misunderstand what I'm asking. What I'm trying to say is that I would like to be able to turn on the lineweight in the Layout "file" while keeping it off in the Plan "file". When the lineweights are on in the plan file and you're working on a detail "zoomed in", things can get hard to decipher, but I want to be able to check the layout to see what the actual "printed" layout view will look like.
  10. Yeah, that's was good. I knew there must be lot's of my friends I should send that to, but I forgot who they were.
  11. I'd like to have the Line weight showing on my Layout while not on my Plan view. Is there a way that this can be done? I have my Layout in it's own window on one monitor while my plan view is shown on it's own window on another monitor. When I turn on the line weights for the Layout the Plan view line weights also are turned on. I think this is a "new" problem associated with X6, unless I'm missing a setting somewhere.
  12. Curt.......Thanks for the .pdfs. I saved them and will put both to good use. I do remember Tim from my earlier days on Chieftalk. Appreciate all your time in helping out this old guy.
  13. Doug.....I will try. I do know it's occurring all the time now. It was happening to me in one window, so I went to a "cad detail" I was working on and everything was working okay there. What's odd sometimes, I'll try to move a wall by checking on a dimension on one side of the wall and nothing happens. I'll go to the dimension on the other side of the wall, which is part of the same dimension string, and I'm able to move the wall. Like I mentioned earlier, I keep a close eye on it. I do know that by closing the program and reopening it "resets" everything. It's a real PITA. Thanks for letting us know it's something you know about.
  14. Curt...Sorry. You were giving me all the correct info. I finally found it. I was having a "brain fart" moment or too much coffee. Many thanks. Have a great day.
  15. Curt....That's exactly what I'm looking for, but when I go to my "custom" ,pat file area all I see is what is shown in the attachment. Am I not looking in the correct area. I'm going to Fill Style, Custom, Browse. Is there more somewhere?
  16. Curt.....It was for a plywood cross section. I remember in AC the "plywood cross section" pattern was three or four horizontal lines with diagonal lines between the horizontal lines or something close to that. Can't believe CA doesn't have one. In the past I've used the "wavy wood" lines horizontally, but I'm not crazy about it.
  17. Dpes anyone have a plywood .pat file they would care to share? If CA has one I was unable to locate it. Thank you.
  18. I was pretty sure I'd hear about that. Next time maybe I should say "cutting a tree", but then I'll hear from the "tree huggers".
  19. I believe you're new, so welcome to the forum. It's all part of learning a new program, which I assume you're doing. There are many ways to "skin a cat" (sorry cat lovers). It's whatever you get use to. As you begin to learn/work this program "some" things start to make more sense on why it is done in a certain way and then there are things I still don't understand why it's done a certain way. By the way, if you are going to be on the forum, it's nice to have a signature with your name, program version and your setup. Have a great day.
  20. I'm having the same problem. I find if I close out CA and then reopen it the program is okay and working correctly, It seems the start to happen after the program is running for a couple of hours. What's so strange is that it may work on one wall or door and the dimensioned wall right beside it or even in the same dimension string it will not work. It definitely has to be a bug. It started doing this just since I've updated a couple of days ago. I'm sort of glad to hear someone else has noticed the same problem.
  21. Once the window is highlighted click on the components dbx. in the bottom left.
  22. I'm pretty sure it's always been this way. At least since v10.08 (2006).
  23. That's a little unusual for someone to just have around. It isn't difficult to build---just time consuming. You can get a couple of hours to half a day or more into it. Just depends on the detail you want, but it can be easily be completed in CA. Is that picture for a new house or is it from an 1860/70's Italianate?
  24. This is in vector view---correct? I believe once you send the view to layout the framing won't show. I know it can be annoying. I usually just turn off those layers if possible in the view I'm looking at if possible. I'll be very happy if someone comes on and says there is a way to fix this.
  25. In the roof dbx. of the new roof set the fascia hgt. and the ridge hgt. the same as the original roof. Then the pitch will be changed by the program.
