  1. Some DAs require proposed and existing ASL elevations to be on the site plan. For flat lots this is not that big of a deal, and sometimes requires some math on sloping (ex: 4% driveway slope, would require a calculation of taking the ASL at the sidewalk, and calculating the elevation change over the length of the driveway @4%). On flat lots, I just put in markers and color them different for existing vs proposed (or leave out the existing if I can get away with it), and neither is actually an elevation terrain point It is more of a PIA for walkout lots, or split walkout lots as one has to continually ensure drainage is away from the house. My question is, what are people doing to show the existing condition and the proposed elevation condition. Is the existing condition a separate plan file with just the terrain, and then the proposed is on the proposed building plan, and use a reference display to show both on the same? if so how to you ensure the ASL labels for each point do not overlap? Ideally I would like: 1. be able to show a cross section showing visually how much fill would be needed, and as such required retaining walls 2. on the site plan show something like below, but really this below shows two different point markers at different physical points, where the message to be conveyed is they are the same point (I suppose I could overlap them and angle the text for the proposed to be away from the existing, or just put in angled text for one of them): It just all seems to be a lot of manual work. Any ideas would be appreciated
  2. The survey around here for residential typically only has ASL elevation at certain points on the site. I am trying to convert these to elevation points in terrain, if possible. My first step was to import the DWG into CA. But I noticed that what look to be point markers in the DWG dont actually import in CA (I tried the different options in the import, no luck). Am I missing something or is this a known limitation: DWG with only property line and elevation layer data turned on CA with all layers (rotated): but even if I could get them in as "X" or something else, I do not see any option to convert to a CA elevation point. Is there a way? My method of last resort will be overlaying the PDF and creating elevation points in CA overtop of the X point markers in the PDF
  3. I suspect that is the issue. I do 24x36 all the time with CA details, and only time I have issues is if there are like 10 RTRT images
  4. i've seen that once I think, and restarting CA fixes it
  5. are these screenshots of the camera, or screenshots of the camera/image on the layout. You could post the plan and see what everyone thinks
  6. looking a little closer at the screenshots, it looks like CA is making roofs in addition to the manually drawn roofs? This, I think, is expected behaviour as I have this happen all the time and then I delete the auto generated roofs (and turn off the auto build roofs). it is a bit of a PIA if you add some more building and want that portion of the building to auto build. As you have to go build the roofs, and delete the other roofs auto done on the rest of the building. rinse repeat everytime you change the building addition
  7. My apologies, I meant post the Chief .plan file
  8. surprising. Backdrop at say, 500 and sunlight at 2500 made no difference? You might want to post the plan
  9. what is your sunlight at? you may want to try and reduce your backdrop intensity
  10. see attached from the out of the box residential template 16.02.2025_16.36.55_REC.mp4
  11. It took me awhile originally to figure out they were not part of the dimension line. You can also, once you manage to tab through to get to them, notice the affected dimension will turn Grey in color. You can the click on the Grey number and type in a new dimension and it will move the marker to match. I use this functionality all the time when I import an image of a survey and have to dimension walls and window wells to the property line as the image has nothing to snap to so ca drops a point marker
  12. put a cabinet there and then find a dishwasher in the catalogue to drop into the cabinet. I use the "chef" series dishwasher
  13. if I have to use point markers to fake a dimension, I will put the point marker radius to a small number. they can be problematic to select. you might have to hit tab until you select it
  14. From the import menu? ...same as any other image...or is there something special
  15. please post to Q&A with screenshots
  16. should be posted to Q&A. to save as a template, click save as template to start from a template, click new layout from template and then select the same file that you saved the layout template as
  17. CA has a "Recommended hardware" thread. I would suggest start there. The graphics card makes the largest difference for real time ray tracing(RTRT) for speed, but I do not remember if X12 had RTRT
  18. may I ask what they are charging you, and what they are using? I did a bunch of research last year and to get an accurate point cloud for exterior looked to require 20K or more worth of leica hardware. Interior looks like lots of options from $10 to $200 a plan for decent accuracy (within a few inches)
  19. ok, I see what you would like. There was actually quite a bit of banter going around when this feature came out on how to use it, and a request to CA to auto generate that number. In my example, I have to type in DET A and keep track of B,C, D as to what is the last letter. AFAIK, the request to autogenerate was not implemented....but what was implemented was an x,y, position on layout that allows you to essentially number based on location on layout. It then gets shown back on the plan view. The theory here is that the details on layout would be sequential on the sheet. It does not work for people who want fixed labels for details to be consistent across plans, and those plans have different amounts of details. unless of course if you removed a detail from layout, it left an empty box If you search SHCanada2 as the author or the comment, and search words(search for all words) layout callout macro you should find the thread(s) which talk about this
