  1. David got it right. I've done it several times. Once you learn how to do it, you'll find that you can do it fairly quickly and can have it look exactly the way you want.
  2. If you don't get it done by the week-end or get enough help here so you can do it, I could possible do an online meeting with you and show you how to do this sometime this week-end. I would do it manually.
  3. Those do look like attic walls created by the roof overhang. You can select them and make them invisible and put them on their own layer so you can turn them off if you need to see other invisible walls for what ever reason. You could also turn off automatic rebuilding of attic walls. Then delete them. However, when doing this, you'll then have to manually draw in all new attic walls.
  4. Did this happen in X5 too? I haven't seen that. I'm not using X6 much right now.
  5. If it's a large site, be sure your buildings are not miles away from absolute 0".0".
  6. I spoke with a friend yesterday who sent in a report to Tech Support about X6 not exporting DWGs correctly. She told me that they told her that there is a bug for exporting DWGs and should be fixed in the next update.
  7. If you have a lot of elevation lines, you could try deleting some...too many can slow you down. Did you try turning off the all elevation data in the plan view and renders? That could help too.
  8. If you call me, I'll do do a quick online meeting with you and show you how to align these walls in just a few seconds. I might be able to explain it over the phone too.

    HP Laptops

I'm also considering an Acer laptop. For the same price, I can get a NVidia 4gb card. Both the HP and Acer will have 8gb of system ram. I used to have an Acer back with V10 and had no problems.
  10. Has anyone recently bought a new HP laptop (NOT A DESKTOP) with a 2gb or 4gb NVidia card? If you have, do you have any problems with the HP laptop with X5 or X6? I'm starting to have problems with my HP laptop concerning an error. The error tells me that "the display adapter has stopped working but has recovered". Well not really, you have to close Chief and re-open. Sometimes you have to close using the Task Manager. It's real bad with X6. I have no problems with renders or spinning renders or doing ray-traces. I have 8gb of system ram and ray-tracing is very good. I generally get the problem when I have dbx boxes open. I can get the best dollar values with HP which is why I'm asking about HP laptops. I currently have a 1gb ATI card that has switchable graphics. I don't want switchable graphics again. I do have it set to run the ATI card ALL OF THE TIME. I can go sometimes for days with no problems but like today, this happened 3 times.
  11. I do both but as you know, you don't have to. Putting it on its own layer is actually more important so you can turn it off and lock it.
  12. Alan, what you and Perry say is correct and is what I plan to demonstrate. There is one more important step you all left out but you are correct.
  13. I'm going to do a demonstration on how to show existing walls with proposed walls for a remodeling plan at our User Meeting this evening. If you would like to sit in and/or ask questions, then email me at my address below. Our meeting starts at 6:00pm (central time) and it's free. I use GoToMeeting. Thought I might let you know incase you're still having problems doing this.
  14. There is a way to do it. I used to have a tutorial Chief file that I made and explained how to do it. I'll check tomorrow and see if I can find it.
  15. We have a free online meeting April 7, 2014 from 6:00pm to 8:00pm (Central Time). If you would like to attend, then please send me an email using my email address shown in my signature. Feel free to call me if you need more information. Sincerely,
  16. I get this too every time I open the program. Very annoying!
  17. I will ask some questions that everyone will want to know too: 1. Do you have the floor plan? 2. Do you know all the ceiling heights? 3. Are the ceiling heights the same as the roof plate heights? 4. Do you know the roof pitches? 5. Do you know the floor system thicknesses?
  18. Here is my reply from Tech Support: Hi Tommy, Thank you for bringing this to our attention. I have submitted the issue to our development staff for review and correction. John Jones Chief Architect Technical Services
  19. I got an email from someone who already sent this in to Tech Support, and they told him that they couldn't reproduce it. So I called someone else who uses chief everyday, and it happened to them too. So why is Tech Support saying they can't reproduce it? REALLY!!! Perry even implies that he gets it too. What's up with Tech Support?? I don't see the need for it to be placing unnecessary breaks on it's own. I'm going to send this in and see if I get the same response. Like I said, it doesn't do this in previous versions.
  20. In X6, if you place an exterior room molding polyline, Chief places breaks wherever you have an interior that meets an exterior wall. Why? Is this a bug? This does not happen in X5 or previous versions. Chief, can this be fixed like it worked in previous versions? I do not want it to place breaks automatically. Is there a feature that I'm missing that controls if you want it to place breaks? I'll wait to see if there is a setting I'm missing before I report it. Thanks,
  21. Just got a reply from Leanne S. from Tech Support and she said that she doesn't know if it will make it to the next update but will submit it for evaluation. This is frustrating. I use it a lot and may just stick with X5 for a while. I use it for many reasons which I don't have to explain here. This tool should work properly or at least as it did in previous versions.
  22. Thank you for the support. I was feeling kinda alone here.
  23. Thank you. I have sent this in to Tech Support.
  24. Thank you Doug. FINALLY got an answer to my question. I will submit this to Tech Support and see if it's possible to get a fix on this.
