Cheryl, you're always welcome to attend our User Group (Houston User Group) if you like. We have people from several states joining in. It's online so you can be at home. We're the first and longest running user group and it looks like we might be the only active group. It's a very casual group.
-
I am curious to know if there are any active user groups out there (in person or online)?

We have a free online meeting Monday, Nov. 3, 2014 from 6:00pm to 8:00pm (Central Time). If you would like to attend, then please send me an email using my email address shown in my signature. Feel free to call me if you need more information or questions. This is an open meeting. Sincerely,

We can't include details for a PT slab here in Houston. They have to be done by an engineer who specifies PT slabs. Kinda like trusses. The Truss engineer has to do the truss plan and specs or the truss company won't supply the trusses.

Sloped Ceiling Is Drawing 2 5/8" Lower Than I Designed
tommy1 replied to 4hotshoez's topic in General Q & A
I place my ceiling planes over the outside of the main layer (framing) to start and go from there. Since we mainly do remodels and I measure at the house where the ceiling starts, I just move the ceiling plane up or down to match what's on the existing house. The main reason I start the ceiling plane on the outside of the main layer (framing) is because it will look right in a back-clip. If you're not showing framing, then start it where you want. -
When I was learning the program, roofs were the hardest for me because all the builders here now make the roofs as complicated as possible. Louis Fernandez taught me the program and made me learn how to do roofs manually (mainly trial and error on my own) because most of the time Chief won't completely do the roofs the way ours are done and therefore you better know how to edit roofs manually or you're in trouble. I'm so glad he made me learn roofs manually because now there's practically not a roof I can put together one way or another (automatically, manual or partial manual). I get a lot of people calling me about doing roofs. I'll always remember him telling me that if I can't do roofs, then I will not be much help to him if I'm going to work for him.
-
That's where I led him to.

Open a wall and go to the roof section in the wall dbx, look at the bottom and see what it says. If you can't get that to work, try a pony wall.

Job Opportunity With Custom Cabinet Company In Houston
tommy1 replied to TriFection's topic in Local User Groups
I understand that Louis Fernandez referred you all to a girl for this position. I don't know her or her knowledge of the program but if she needs help figuring something out concerning the program, have her give me a call and maybe I can assist. I live in Spring Branch so I don't think I'm too far from you or could assist online. You could also let her know that I head up the Houston User Group and we have meetings once a month. We're there to help people out with the program. It's free and online. -
Not that I know of.
-
Just do it manually. I do remodels every day. That's 99.9% of my work.

If your plan files are running slow for you then why not SENT IT TO TECH SUPPORT, or purchase a stronger computer. Apparently there are high poly count items and cad files that are possibly slowing you down. By now, you should know what to do. If you feel CA has poor programing, then hey, there are other programs out there that may suit your needs better.

I suspect you mean 41 MBs. A blank plan is a lot more than that.

Which light fixture. Is it a Chief light or a light you downloaded. I haven't seen a Chief light do this in a long time (years).

Thanks for the invite but I'll probably stay here for now.

You're welcome. I think I'm going to put this library in my X6 library because instead of altering the pre-built cabinets in the original library, I can just place the same appliances in my cabinets that I already have set up for a default.

Yusuf, as I mentioned, there are other ways to apply a volute and with that said, I'm not knocking your way by any means.
-
Most of ours look more like this in general.
-
Yusuf, the first tread here doesn't normally look like that here in Houston and the position of the volute is different from the way they do it here also. If that look is okay, then yes, that will be fine.
-
Here is one way to add volutes to stairs. This plan attached explains how I did it in steps. In the plan, I have a 3d molding polyline ready to go that you can add to your library. There is also a handrail profile to add to your library too if you want. It's a common handrail used here and is not in Chief's library. This method basically uses a landing for the first tread and a 3d molding polyline for the volute and handrail. Balusters for the volute are placed manually. You can always make your own 3d polyline to use. There are other ways to do this but this is how I do it. It looks pretty good in plan view too. X6 Plan file. Volute sample.plan

Please Help Me "find" My Terrain Perimeter--It Has Gone Missing!
tommy1 replied to Fun2Learn's topic in General Q & A
I made that same mistake years ago. I'll never forget it. -
He is right.

Phyllis, I'm working on a new tutorial plan for doing volutes. If you send me an email at my email address below, I'll sent it to you to look at and you can tell me what you think. It will be basic. You could alter anything to make it look closer to what you actually do.
