  1. That's pretty much the base specs for running CAX6. Model complexity also contributes to CA responsiveness. For instance; I'm working a plan landscape and I use hundreds or 2D and 3D plant models. While the 2D doesn't effect performance much, the high poly (many, many polygons) 3D models drag an 87MB landscape plan to a crawl. However, the same project interior design plan @ 157MB is just fine as most symbols are low poly. jon
  2. Setup a unique folder within DB (I'm very clever and call mine Chief Architect Stuff) and follow the instructions to set your permissions. It's easier doing this through the website than your local file system. jon

  5. This is one of he reasons forum users put their computer specs in their sigs. Also, it's good practice to post your plan so others can test/find bad symbols/find bad materials/find user error/find etc. without the need of a guessing game. If you want my tip... http://www.boxxtech.com/ jon
  6. Create a symbol of 10+ trees and repeat on a polyline distribution path or distribution region jon
  7. It's a search input. Select "Common Name" radio button on the search results panel and you get just that. jon
  8. I just type in the common name in the plant chooser (or the first few letters works as my spelling stinks). My complaint is no differentiation between 2D and 3D in the search results. So, does anybody have a good 3D Live Oak tree, or know which symbol vendor has one? jon

  10. Type "apple" under common name. Make sure the common name radio button is selected for search results. I get 5. jon
  11. Make the glass wall "No room def", that way painting the "room" won't attach to the glass. Otherwise, you need to apply the finish the each wall surface individually via the wall dbx. jon
  12. What is this "modem" you speak of? It sounds very 1997. Know your bottlenecks and plan accordingly. My internal net is GB wired and AC (800+mb) WiFi (degrades automagically for b/g/n devices), The perimeter router is 15Mbs dwn/up. Speed parity is more important to me as I work/store almost all user files to a variety of cloud services. Less likelihood of file corruption to services not offering batch updates/sync with speed parity. Call a technician. Pay the big bucks. Get a grip on your network. jon

  16. Or... Take your output image to post-production in Photoshop and trace the wall tops with solid black. jon
  17. I'm trying to get a guide rail on the downslope side of the driveway and a retaining wall on the upslope that parallels the roadbed (slightly inset for the guide rail) . The driveway roadbed is two stacked roadways. I've tried terrain walls, railings and fences with no luck. They just fall into some unknown terrain abyss. Please, can somebody point me to a KB article or video that 'splains me what I'm doing wrong! Files attached. jon Contmpry_02_Bkup.zip

  21. No, it can't. Unless you have process to support the terms in your contract. Relying solely on a clause in a contract leaves you at the mercy of judge/jury. However, supporting the obligations of all parties via an action process (Think signoff sheet/validated email workflow/etc., etc.) leaves little doubt re: contractual obligation. jon
  22. "But if you don't know what you are doing, the odds of prevailing drop dramatically." Amen, brother! Sitting down with competent counsel to develop the Ts&Cs unique to your business is fairly important. Beyond liability issues (how you implement is equally important to what the contract states. You must have a process to support contractual obligations), issues of Intellectual Property (IP) use, rights, and duration are mucho importante and need to be explicitly defined in contract. Failure to do so will get your work repurposed, reused, and regurgitated all without any compensation to the original creator. Find a competent small business attorney. jon
