  1. If you learn more by working thru it yourself, why are you posting a question here? What you are doing is taking up solvers time because he is guessing at a solution. Solver is very good, you will learn a lot more at a quicker pace if you give folks like solver the information so he can teach you. Believe me there are plenty of things you can learn on your own.
  2. Hey DJP, what is going on? I am not sure that helped out the OP. He is trying to learn from somebody that has tackled the task. It might be helpful to him if you cited a passage in CA's help section that explains how to achieve what he wants. On a separate note, the OP should post the plan.
  3. I agree, the kitchen should not feel orphaned and it should have an island. Think about flipping the entry and kitchen.... think about hiring a pro to help you out with the design.
  4. Talk to Joe Carrick. Hi is in San Marcos.
  5. I have had a pretty ***** day, if you have a few minutes, I sent you a GTM invite......
  6. The question is, if I change the default for roof framing from trusses to conventional or vice versa, and the walls change heights due to the change, does that make sense to you? If it makes sense to you, I am not sure how we can discuss this any more because it makes no sense to me.
  7. Michael, you suggest I have auto rebuild roofs on. I do not think that will work. Here is a very simple test. Build 2 20'x20' garages. Try to have one garage auto build roof with trusses and have the other garage auto build roof with rafters. 80% of my projects have a mixture of conventional and truss framing.
  8. Of course I had auto rebuild roofs off. I do not want chief to rebuild them, I have decided where I want them. If CA rebuilds them, do you think they will build where I want them? No, they will relocate. I do not want my rafters to move, that is the reason why I do not have auto rebuild on. Think about it, do you think there would be a situation where you have located the roof planes and you do not want them to auto rebuild thus relocate? You guys must understand I do remodels. There are existing conditions that can not change because they are existing. No worries, I have given up on hoping this type of stuff gets fixed.
  9. I love them, however I do not use live updates, I tell CA when to update all elevations, it takes maybe 2 minutes, and everything is updated, cab elev., ext. elev. sections, etc
  10. Here is a vid that demonstrates what is wrong with this stuff. If any of you guys can tell me whatI am doing wrong, please let me know. Plan Attached. To sum it up, the top plate elevations will change heights depending on whether it is a truss or conventional roof in the ROOF DEFAULTS BOX. If no one can show me what I am doing wrong, I will send it in as a bug..... TRUSS WARS VID 2 screw up 1.plan
  11. I tried to do a vid to dispute Michael's claim that it is not important to predefine whether it is conventional frame or a truss system. I could not do a good vid, but I think it is important to predefine whether truss or conventional prior to building roof or ceiling plane. Michael and I should get together on a GTM to thrash this out. Great topic to discuss.
  12. I agree, ceiling drawn inside is correct. Eric just proved it with pic. If drawn on outside, the slope of ceiling starts higher than top plate.
  13. Yeah, you and I are in agreement, so why does CA say we should build on exterior face? Do they do things differently in God's Country?
  14. I added part 2 to post #13. Not a great vid, but there is some meat on the bone.
  15. I think it is important to either check or not check the truss(no birds mouth option), this is important in determining where the roof base line is located. I think I proved that in the vid. It does make a difference.
  16. The rebuttal vid....... how do people make there vids so short? PART 1 PART 2
  17. How would one go about using a CA model in Lumion?
  18. I am using the latest and greatest CA software, it is X-9. If this is your business, spend the money and get X9, if you are goofing around, build the wall out of PSOLIDS and then move on over to the HOMETALK forum for future questions, they understand the program you are using more than I.
  19. Draw wall, take a back clip crossection, select left side of wall and drag down 48", select right side of wall and drag down 24", you should have a sloped wall
  20. Thanks, I should of added that. I think you guys in CALIF. can probably relate to this... I find myself trying to guess what special pecadillo the next plan checker will have. I keep saying to myself... "send it in... send it in... send it in, let them tell me what they want this time". It is a slow painful death I go through with each project
  21. BTW, I think this is such a stupid note if the builder/plumber do to understand this, it is time for a new builder/plumber. This is how nutty the permit processing has got. Somehow for the last 150 years, the builder/plumber understood there was a slope required. I wish that Donald Trump had lost the election and would of become head of the plan check dept. in san diego. For every new regulation, get rid of two regulations. I am not picking on you Jere, it's just that this is common knowledge for anybody that puts in plumbing. In fact I just wasted 4 minutes of my day responding to this..... a sure sign of how much a dim wit I am. I was talking to P. this past weekend and I was telling him I am ready to retire from the day to day drudgery of this business. I spend more time noting that the stair railing needs to be blah blah blah instead of investing my time in the design of the home. Justs venting guys, please ignore this rant.
  22. I gave up using the Magic Mouse and now use a hard wired Logitech mouse. i am not sure if we are discussing the same issue.
