  1. Often times the type of handrail changes. I do a boiler plate detail to get past the plans reviewer. Another one of those annoying tasks.
  2. Thanks Michael, that helped.... but I wish there was a default so I could add the marker to all dimension points. Also, I just did a GTM with Glenn (thanks Glenn), and we discovered that the auto dimension would dimension to the top of WINDOW ROUGH OPENING, I wish we could auto dimension to the TOP OF WINDOW, not the HEADER. Ooops, another wish is to be able to have a hot key to delete the auto dimensions so I can redo to update.' I also wish I could snap to the auto marker points. I also wish we could have the dimensions reference not only the ABSOLUTE ELEVATION but also THE MEAN SEA LEVEL . Glenn said he has started relating his bottom floor elevation to mean sea level (not absolute zero), the problem with this is if my client raises the house 2', instead of simply adjusting the terrain, one must ADJUST everything in the plans. Anyway, I am a little late to the party, but I do love the auto story pole dimensions. It is saving me a lot of time. I will think about this some more and then stick any suggestions in the suggestion box.
  3. Hi Glenn, I will be in the office until 11:00 PST. If you are available, I could do a GTM, just let me know. I will try to get in office early tomorrow morning, maybe 4:00 am PST, that will be 9:00 pm your time, no guarantees.
  4. Okay, I did the video. Over an hour long. Skip to the end if you want to see what I would like to see.
  5. Glenn, building the walls like that are very limiting. I think the best method to date is the panel system and then creating the custom panel symbols. Over all, probably a relatively quick solution with the most control to date.
  6. I thought the same thing, but after getting into them, I love them. However, they can be improved on... but who cares, but the time they improve them I will be retired sailing to the south pacific. I started to do a vid, but I do not have the energy, if I ever get the energy I will do a vid.
  7. Here is a question. If I want the top of my retaining wall to be 50’ above sea level, irregardless of what the house elevation is, how do I do that? understand that I may want to raise my house up 2’-0” from 51’ to 53’. But I want the retaining wall to stay at 50’. IOW, I would like to be able to set the top of retaining wall relative to MSL not necessarily to absolute zero.
  8. My MAC has issues with having layout open as well as elevations. I have reported it but no fix yet. Sometimes I need to force quit but often times I have to wait 10-15 seconds for the MAC to wake up.
  9. I use midspan bearing trusses very very very rarely. It is typically not necessary. As far as brace lateral walls every 25' , that is if the prescriptive method is being used. Since every project I do (99.997%) need to be engineered, I do not need to abide by the perspective method.
  10. Nice job Glenn.... are they walls or fences? I am assuming wall since you have a footing. I am assuming they do not follow terrain (or not a stepped fence) (since it it a wall and not a fence) I am assuming they were all edited in elevation BTW, I am really getting into the auto story pole. I wish we could adjust the height of walls (particularly retaining and site walls ) in plan view in lieu of editing in elevation. In this project, I needed to adjust the top and bottom of wall to a specific height relative to sea level. I AND AND AND , I wish we could adjust the height of the walls 2 ways 1- relative to the first floor (0.0) 2- relative to M.S.L.
  11. this might be clearer
  12. check out this dox..... do not check higher box eave or do check it or default to overhang.... this is where you need to be
  13. You cited a reason why you would want two materials,. The reason I wanted to do it yesterday is we were trying to do a work around..... it was Richard Morrison's idea .... using the footing as CMU and having it go into the terrain..
  14. I found it very interesting that we could not change the FOOTING MATERIAL. I suppose somewhere in the defaults it can be changed, but that would CHANGE ALL FOOTINGS. So if you wanted 2 DIFFERENT FOOTING MATERIALS for two different walls, it is not possible.
  15. Thanks to all that attended and a big thanks to Glenn for presenting and to Steve for the wall solution I was after. Here is the vid. 2 hours long, probably tough to watch, better to just listen for any highlights, always better to be there.
  16. I just sent out the invites, if you did not get one, email me at dscotthallATmacDOTcom
  17. I send emails out 15 minutes before meeting (2:45 my time today)
  18. If I remember, I will record. ChopSaw is usually kind enough to record but I think he said something about using up all his download time.... I will try.... yeah, you better go to the in-law's bday.
  19. This should be a good workshop. We have 11 folks so far. We will start promptly at 3:00 my time. If you have anything to share, that would be super.
  20. Some one just asked me if it will be PST or PDT. It will be 3:00 California time when my Iphone says 3:00. I get it..... sometimes we cannot be clear enough. I guess it would be PDT .....
  21. I will be hosting a: Walls/Railing Workshop Tuesday, April 24rth at 3:00 PM PST This will be an online meeting. If you are interested, please email me. Do not call me, do not answer in this thread, do not text me and do not send smoke signals. I think Glenn Woodward might be able to make it and he is The King of railings. This should be a good workshop. Please email me at dscotthallATmacDOTcom
