Dermot, What settings are required for this to work, as this is the solution that would be required the majority of the time. Is there a resource that explains this? The solutions that Mick and I suggested are sort of all or nothing situations that are rather limiting. Yours is perfect if you could explain it.

Are your Advanced Line Weight Options in Drawing Sheet Setup both set to the same value in Layout and Plan ? Default should be 1/100 mm. Also are you using Layout Line Scaling when sending to Layout ?
-
Include the sheating as part of your main layer in the wall definition but unfortunately then you will not be able to dimension to the exterior of the stud. If you just need to do it once place a cad line where you need to snap to.

Leo, I think we were all assuming that you were running X9 and and and that is why the instructions would have not made much sense. I only developed this system of automation using the new roof layers tool that was introduced in X8 however there are a couple of other guys that I learned the basics from that were doing this before X8 so it will be a lot more work but it can still be done in X7 which I believe the plan file you posted is ?? Would it be possible for both of you to PM your Skype names and maybe we could set up a meeting tomorrow evening Saskatchewan Time.

Sherry, Are you looking for one layer on top of your rafters or two for the best venting. I originally developed this for a 1 1/2 story design that was extremely difficult to vent and needed cross ventilation. Let me know how it goes and maybe we could do a combined session.

Yes thank you Micahel. A automatically generated lookout is the only member that has the properties you will need and unfortunately chief does not yet have a manual lookout or Purlin tool but you can create an automatic lookout in a test plan if you design does not have any and copy it into your plan or save it in the library as a cad block. It has been a while since I have worked with this but I believe that you can temporarily set an alternate framing level to manually frame in after you have auto framed the main structure. Just give us a shout back here if you run into issues and we will do our best to try and help. If you need a quick demo we can hook up on Skype if you like or send your plan file.

When I opened the file it is not as extreme as your image in first post and all fascia and sub fascia is set to 5 1/2" which leaves the edge of the soffit exposed. The soffit sits on the bottom of the sub fascia so I would recommend as Ray did to make your fascia larger than your sub fascia if you want to hide the seam. Also your porch rooms that are under the overhangs should be set to "Use Soffit surface for Ceiling" or they will interfere. That should still work fine with your 11.875 TJI's. Outside wall of the living room needs to be reset to it's default top height also.

I have not looked at the plan yet but what size is your sub fascia ?
-
Ok that's cool, I guess Steve will have two options in the morning. I don't get requests for Frieze boards often.
-
Is that the same plan Eric?
-
Is this what you are after? PORCH - ROOF EXT Choped.plan

Place a manual break or two in the roof plane and drag it out or use the temp dimensions and it should work fine. Post the plan if you have any issues.

Michael is correct in that your terrain appears very extreme for the drive way you are attempting to place but if you can smooth that out a bit it might work out if you read this:
-
Slick. Thanks Michael. When did you come up with that idea ? Not so random. Happy 800th

Could you explain a little more about how you got to where you are at ? You have posted a .jpg which is great as we can all see it clearly but what is it generated from ? PDF to JPG conversion, screenshot ??? Also what version of the software are you using ? It appears as you have a transparent region layered into your layout page between your dimensions and elevation view. If it is a PDF then what PDF printer are you using? Plan and layout file would also be great.

In plan defaults there is a setting that allows the Floor Camera to view the lower floors. Default Settings> Camera > General Camera> Options: "Show Lower Floors in Floor Overview". Is that selected ?
-
Did you try re-establishing the file path in Preferences ?
-
Where have you directed chief to look for your data folder ? Preferences> General> Folders> My Data Folder: __________________________

The other option is to make a copy of your Text layer and create sub sections such as Text, Structural Text, Framing etc.. You will also typically need to add layers for CAD and Dimensions for the same reason.

It is interesting that all video cards seem to have the same limit. It just does not make sense. GTX 1080 should do more. Graham seems to be quite sure of his facts but I am not convinced.

Sending to layout as "Current Screen" should avoid most of the previously suggested potential issues.

Thanks guys, The extra details help a lot as tiles are not so common in northern climates for some reason. There may be other little things necessary depending on the roof design but I can see that the Bellcast batten makes perfect sense for installation and would fill the gap in the fascia that I was trying to avoid in the illustration. Not sure why the Ridge Tiles could not use a Distribution Path Joe ?

Here is part 2 I did not find a shortcut for side 2 but it seems like there should be one so I am open to suggestions but it seems the starter row can be reflected but then you must create a Right version of the symbol rotated 2.5° in the other direction and apply it to the Polyline Distribution Paths on the back side of the roof using the same logic as the first side. Many thanks to Joe for contributing. And please be sure to post any further questions and the results of the project so Chief can see how things are done in your country and improve the software accordingly if necessary.

Here is step 1 Likely the best strategy is to rename edited versions of the original symbol and save them to your user library.
