Are saved plan views meant to replace working with layer sets?
Joe_Carrick replied to EngelsmaHomes's topic in General Q & A
I don't think that's the point. Default Sets and Layer Sets are the basics giving you a set of Defaults and Layers to choose from. Reference Layer Sets are now more important than ever. Saved Plan Views simply allow you to save a view so that it retains: zoom factor layer settings (Primary Layer Set for the type of drawing - Architectural, Structural, Electrical, etc.) default settings (How various things will be created and diaplayed) floor level reference floor displays (floor numbers and layer set) etc Then whenever you reopen that view all of the above will be as they were when you last saved that Plan View. -
If you have a straight on photo of the material you can use that to create a texture.

My solution is a little different: 2 standard framed (or unframed) cabinets 1 center unframed cabinet (sides are normal) select all three and convert to interior furnishings symbol (hangs on wall with appropriate height) add to schedule as "Wall Cabinet"c Make sure you edit the label and description to show what you want in the Schedule.

San Diego County still accepts 2016. San Diego City doesn't. PITA

I just had a set of plans rejected because my Code Reference was to the 2016 CRC. I didn't even know the 2019 had been adopted. Does anyone know if there have been changes from the 2016 CRC? If so, what are the changes?

I have a lot of different wall types stored in my user library. The variations are numerous, including lots of different material layers, and even if there's a pony wall. When I want a particular wall type I just select that from the library and start drawing. It's much more comprehensive, allowing for wall thickness, new/demo/existing, etc.

If you have an X10 license, why not download it from your digital locker to the computer with X9 and install? If they are both yours then you can use X10 on both - just not at the same time.

That's one I posted several years ago. I'm pretty sure it was X8 or earlier. IAE, it still works and CA hasn't come up with anything better.

No, but you could block those and convert to a symbol.

This is going to be a huge change in the way I organize my ConDocs. No more will I have to arrange Details on a large drawing sheet. One thing that would really be nice would be if I could send all pages of a PDF to sequential pages of the Layout. I will put a request in for this feature.

Now that we have the ability to open Multiple Layouts I'm wondering if this will allow different Sheet Sizes. Basically, I would like to be able to put together a Detail / Specification Book and for that Layout I would use a Letter Sheet Size. All the General Notes, Details, Specifications, Schedules, T-24 Calcs, etc would be placed in that Layout while the Drawings would be in a Arch-D size Layout. Has anyone else tried this?

Sure, just turn off the Room Fill Layer.

You need to join the NKBA. They have lots of classes and guidelines.

Can X12 open a X5 plan file so it can be modified?
Joe_Carrick replied to ccl2005's topic in Sales Related Questions
I do exactly the same. The "Save As" with a new name creates an X12 file. The older file (original name) is not effected and will still be openable in the older version. -

Joe_Carrick replied to ccl2005's topic in Sales Related Questions
Note that you can "Save As" in X12, thereby retaining the original version. That way you have a plan that can be edited in X12 but you still have the old plan that can be used in the original version. I do this sort of thing when I upgrade to a new version so I can always go back - but of course I almost never do so. -
I don't think so. Maybe in X11 - I'll have to check, but I'm pretty sure it didn't work that way back in X10 or X9. IAE, all I can say is that it shouldn't.

Knotty pine cabinets/wall and hardware
Joe_Carrick replied to mlgallant's topic in Symbols and Content
Most of that can be found in the Core Catalog > Architectural > Cabinets >Hardware and in the Core Catalog > Materials >Wood > Pine You just need to do a little investigating. You might need to change the colors of the hardware but otherwise I think you'll find what you need. -
In X12, if a default is specified for the Room Labels then the Label will be displayed as double. ie: default = %name% --> LIVINGLIVING, BATHBATH,BEDROOMBEDROOM, etc. I have not seen this in prior versions.

Thanks for the Offer - but I'm going to just have the Fire Sprinkler Plans done by the specialists. Probably by the one you suggested.

X12 Final Release - Problems still exist
Joe_Carrick replied to Joe_Carrick's topic in General Q & A
So in my plan - which you reviewed - the answer would be to not have the Master Bath Ceiling lowered by editing the Ceiling Finish. This sort of thing is just not obvious to the user. IMO a Room Divider should separate the rooms, including any ceiling definition and a Tray Ceiling shouldn't span rooms. -
X12 Final Release - Problems still exist
Joe_Carrick replied to Joe_Carrick's topic in General Q & A
Apparently what's happening is the Tray Ceiling actually creates it's own "Ceiling Plane" but doesn't recognize the Room Divider ("Invisible Wall") even though it actually is classified as "Defining a Room Separation". The created "Ceiling Plane" then encompasses both rooms incorrectly. That's got to be a program bug. -
Yep, I think that's probably the best way to go. It requires a specific license.

Are you actually printing from the Plan or are you printing from the Layout? Are you using Chief's "Save as PDF" ? I don't use Chief's "Save as PDF". Instead I print my Layout's to PDF using the "Nuance PDF Printer" or Adobe. I don't get any difference between a Plot Line or a Live View.
