For purposes of showing it in the project, I would just use a "Ceiling Beam" and set the material to whatever. I like Ryan's solution for how to "Detail" the beam. You could convert Ryan's framed detail to a Symbol and then insert that into the model. But that will result in a lot more surfaces than necessary. I would just keep his detail in a separate plan file and send it to Layout to show the details. This will get you the material list and allow cross sections, etc to be sent to the Layout.

Click on Chief X12 in that Dialog and see what it says. Also, if you're using X13 you would need to set it for that as well.

Actually, the best method is to use a "Saved Plan View" with a "Referenced LayerSet" containing just the Layers you want to see (Stairs, etc). It should be set as "Floor Below" or "Floor 1" and the "Details" Box should be checked for that view. You can have as many "Referenced LayerSets" as you want and they can be set to display any floor. Just make sure you have the correct "LayerSet" specified for each. The advantage of using this method is that it's always current with the model. Relying on CAD provides no guarantees.

My system automatically updates whenever any change is made. For the "zero lot line policy" I would need to know the rules. I could then make the necessary modifications for an additional $25.

U shaped winder stairs safety/design problem
Joe_Carrick replied to sclarke0's topic in General Q & A
I would probably add an additional angled area to the top wider from the edge of the secondary stair to about 1/3 of the top winder. Maybe even radius that filler so that it's tangent to both. -
Are you looking to automate compliance with Table 9.10.15.4 ? If so, I have a macro package that does it very nicely. It's a rather specific set of macros for which I charge $100 USD. It requires the use of a custom field which is included. Let me know if you are interested.

Windows 11 - Chief using dedicated graphics card
Joe_Carrick replied to johnny's topic in General Q & A
You might want to check with Perry. I know he's using Windows 11 and an RTX3000 series. Not sure about the Laptop. -
Ahhh!!!! I posted those several years ago. I thought you might be wanting a "Plan View" of people rather than just images for use in 3D Views.

I'm not sure, but maybe 2D blocks could be superimposed on the silhouettes. Is that what you are looking for?
-
No, not without CA making changes to the model. 3D Objects in Chief are just a set of surfaces. The are actually hollow.

Use 2 sliding doors (1 right and 1 left ) Then move them together so that there's no space between the sliding panels. You will need to move an exact distance - or maybe ctrl-drag. Then mull them together. This should give you 4 panels with just the 2 center panels openable.

Have you specified that Chief is to use the Nvidia GPU? Actually I'm not sure about that particular GPU but I think it should work. If there's more than one GPU in your system it very well could be that Chief is trying to use the wrong one.

Scott, FWIW, I now include all of those calculations (plus a lot more) in predefined macros. -
New Computer Monitor: Higher Resolution or Higher Refresh?
Joe_Carrick replied to LaurenMM's topic in General Q & A
Yes, that's what I'm using on my desktop. I also have a Laptop that has a 3000 series card. Both work fine for my purposes. -
New Computer Monitor: Higher Resolution or Higher Refresh?
Joe_Carrick replied to LaurenMM's topic in General Q & A
Hi Lauren, I don't think it makes any difference. The main thing is what GPU you have in your system. NVidea RTX-2000 series would be a minimum. The RTX-3000 series would be better. -
Showing filled CMU downpours/rebar on floor and foundation plan
Joe_Carrick replied to PMMully's topic in General Q & A
You can also create a separate reference layer set with just the rebar. -
If you post the plan we can check exactly why this is happening. It's probably because the sink or the countertop isn't at the correct elevation.
-
just be aware that the RX560 only has 1 HDMI and 1 Display Port so you would be limited to a maximum of 2 monitors. Chief requires that all monitors be attached to the same GPU.

You might want to check the HD Forum. Most of the members here are using Chief Premier X12-X13

Most of Chief's built-in macros are hard coded (not actually processed by Ruby) The other Name/Value (object attributes) pairs are processed by Ruby and consequently can be manipulated and formatted.. I've attached a set of macros that will allow you to eamine an object to see what attributes are available Object_Properties.json

Yes, it works in x7 and beyond. I've used it in every version since then without a problem.

ASUS GX74 But I just found a new 17" ASUS with an RTX3050ti for $799. The GPU sells for $450 so upgrading probably isn't worth the risk.
-
I have a older Laptop with a GTX_880M. It won't properly run X13 so I would either upgrade the GPU or get a new Laptop. What's involved with updating and if it's possible is it worth the cost?

Or maybe the current LayerSet has all of the dimension Layers displayed.
